Motherhood can be beautiful, rewarding, exhausting, and overwhelming all at the same time. There are days when you feel like you have everything under control, and other days when you just want to sit down, have a cup of tea, and cry.
And sometimes, you don’t need someone to fix everything. You simply need someone to listen.
That’s why I believe mums should be there for one another.
We all carry things that other people may never see. The stress of raising children, relationship problems, financial worries, loneliness, work, family pressures, or simply the exhaustion that comes from constantly putting everyone else first. Sometimes you just need a safe place to say, “I’m struggling today,” without being judged or made to feel like you’re failing.
Being a shoulder to cry on doesn’t mean having all the answers. It can be as simple as saying, “I’m here. Tell me what’s going on.”
Sometimes a mum needs to vent. Let her.
She may not want advice. She may not want criticism. She may simply need to get everything that’s been building up inside her off her chest. Giving someone that space can mean more than we realise.
And support should go both ways. The mum who seems strong and always has encouraging words for everyone else might also need someone to check in on her. The mum who seems to have everything together may be quietly struggling behind closed doors.
So let’s make more room for kindness.
Let’s listen without judging. Let’s encourage without comparing. Let’s remind each other that asking for support isn’t weakness. And let’s make sure no mum feels like she has to carry everything alone.
You never know what someone is going through.
Sometimes, a simple “How are you really doing?” can be the beginning of the conversation she desperately needed.
To every mum who needs a shoulder to cry on, a place to vent, or simply someone who will listen you don’t have to pretend you’re okay all the time. There is strength in reaching out, and there is strength in being there for someone else.
We’re all just doing our best. And perhaps motherhood would feel a little lighter if we carried some of the weight together.
