Today is the 25th anniversary of 9/11 do you remember what you were doing when you saw the news?

I remember every single bit of that day like it was yesterday. I had only visited the WTC 3 months earlier too. Thinking about the families and survivors and emergency workers today.

I was ill and on the sofa, drifting in and out of sleep with the TV on for company. I woke to see film footage and thought I'd woken in the middle of a film. Was absolutely horrified when I realised it was an actual terrorist attack.

I was pregnant with my dd1 and was off sick .

I was at my work as a solicitor, in a large open plan office. I had handed in my resignation that morning which had come as a surprise to my colleagues so we were chatting about that when we were alerted to it happening. We all watched most of it happen live on our monitors, via Ananova. I was actually working on a deal involving lawyers in New York- I wasn’t sure how close to the Towers they were situated but their emails went silent for days.

My parents were shopping in IKEA and it was on the screens there- they thought it was an action film at first.

I heard at the school gate, so I guess just before 3pm. I think the second tower went down while we were waiting, but I could be wrong.
Edited to add: looking at the timings, we heard about the attack at the school gate & then the first tower collapsed while we were there.

Yes - very clearly. I was working on the ninth floor of a 12 storey mundane office building in a medium UK city at the time. We all kept glancing out of the windows, paranoid a plane might fly into our building too. Of course we knew that was nonsense, but everything felt uncertain and unsettled, it made everyone feel on edge. You really felt that something of enormous magnitude had shifted.

I was in my parents house. They had workmen in and had asked me to wait with them in case they needed anything. I was checking itv teletext and saw it. Then watched in horror as the second plane struck. The workmen did not believe me when I told them and would not come down to see it. I had to put a radio in the room that they were working in before they would believe me.

I was teaching. We had the radio on as kids were drawing a poster. Ran next door to tell my boss. Came home and watched the news all evening.

At work, and as it was just before easily available online news coverage we had to just piece it together.
I'd been to NYC that summer and been up the Twin Towers, which was a really eerie feeling. Also had a friend who worked in that part of NYC at the time, but thankfully he'd been on the subway in and his train was stopped and they were told to all turn back and go home.
I remember watching on the news that night and being numb with horror. I can still see the smoke and that perfect blue sky.

I had the day off sick and was in bed. I lived in a shared flat with the landlady amd her family, who were close with us all, in the downstairs flat. She'd been up early and called everyone, as it was London and she thought we'd be next and 2 worked in Canary Wharf, I went down to her flat and we watched the news together for most of the day, collecting housemates into her living room as they straggled in.

I was at work - a colleague heard it on the radio, and we went to the security office to watch the 24 hour news coverage on their big screen. We couldn’t verify if our US colleagues were safe for quite a long time. Most of us finished up what we were working on and then went home in shock.

I was working in the news room.. tv’s all around me.. phones going off the hook.. camera men frantically sending in footage, it felt like I was in some sort of surreal state of mind and remember thinking about my colleagues in the US also in that building who were most likely dead. 😞 Not a day i will ever forget!

I was 18 and at work. I worked as a receptionist so I was separate from the main office. There was a bit of fuss being made around an American colleague's desk, but she was a bit of a drama queen with main character energy so I didn't really think much of it at the time.
I had a dentist appointment that afternoon and my dad picked me up early, just after the second plane had hit. I got in the car and he said,
'American is on fire.'
I suppose he didn't have the words. We listened to the radio in silence.

I got home and watched those towers fall. I remember my mum screaming,
This is live! It's live!

Weirdly I don't remember anything from the dentist, but I must have gone.

I was about to leave work when the first plane hit and someone had put Sky News on. Everyone thought it was an accident. By the time I’d left work and walked to my mum’s house the second plane had hit. We spent the rest of the afternoon glued to the news in shock. I remember ringing DH in work and the entire shop had ground to a halt, staff and customers, watching it on the old TV in the corner behind the till.

I was working in mechanics workshop on an industrial estate and all we had was a radio usually tuned into Radio 2. I'd gone out to get the blokes some bacon rolls from a burger van. When I got back (maybe about 11.30am) the boss sort of casually mentioned that an aircraft had gone into a sky scrapper in New York. I assumed (as did he) that it was a light aircraft, which has actually happened a few times over the decades. It wasn't until much later in the day that we realised it was something horrific as news started to filter over the Radio. When I got home I put the TV on and stood in stunned silence. I cried and still do cry when I think of it. It seems like yesterday. It was such a beautiful day both here and in New York, with peerless blue skies and warm sunshine. I had felt so good that morning when I left for work and I imagined how all those victims must've felt the same.

I was at work, but in a business which had a TV in the background all day (for business purposes). When the first plane hit everyone was shocked, but carried on, after all it was a long way away and was surely just an accident. Then the second plane, then the pentagon and flight 93. Then I'm not sure anybody did any more work, we just clustered round the TV and radio. My son was only 3 at the time and after I picked him up from nursery I went home and turned the TV on and he said to me 'Mummy, why are you crying' and I thought how do you explain to a 3 year old? And of course you can't. I think I just said 'some bad men did a bad thing today'. I remember that day so clearly. Even now there is a sense of disbelief.

We had only just got cable TV and I remember watching the 2nd.plane go in live. Its was awful to watch it on continual news. It was also the day my son has his 6.week check up too so.clear in my mind.

This - I worked for a city law firm (who were very work oriented so we all had to stay at our desks until the end of the day 😳 - no going home early) with rumours swirling that London was next and planes were heading for Canary Wharf.

Trying to find out what was going on from very early days internet - I remember finding a New Zealand news site that intermittently worked as BBC etc were impossible to access.

Everyone on the train home absolutely silent and shocked. And everyone reading the Metro paper on the platform the next day with just a huge image of the burning towers.

Such an awful day. RIP to all who suffered just hellish experiences. I still don’t think I can fully get my head around the horror.

I was in the office on the 26th floor of Millbank Tower when my workmate saw the news online and told everyone. Very scary.

I was watching a re-run of Crossroads! Suddenly it was interrupted with the dreadful news.
I remember all kinds of little things from that day that I wouldn't otherwise have remembered. I had taken my dog and my then six month old son for a walk on top of a hill early that morning. I remember sitting on a seat looking at the view and thinking how peaceful everything was.

Was in my second year of a Travel & Tourism course at college. Was sat on the settee watching a music channel, eating a cheese & pickle sandwich, doing my coursework. Half way through OutKasts Miss Jackson the newsflash came on.

I was 13. I was in school when it happened and didn’t hear anything about it until I got home and my parents were watching it unfold on TV. Just utterly shocking.

My memory is that it was silent anyway by the time they'd got to replaying it over and over. I don't think there was much to say.
