Today is the 25th anniversary of 9/11 do you remember what you were doing when you saw the news?

I remember every single bit of that day like it was yesterday. I had only visited the WTC 3 months earlier too. Thinking about the families and survivors and emergency workers today.

Yes at work we always had Bloomberg 24 news on on (trading floor) colleagues had spoken to people in the building who were told to evacuate after the first plane they were not happy about it but had no idea why thankfully they were all safe

we were all watching the tv wondering how a plane could fly into such a tall building and watched the second plane in disbelief, it was so quick, that's what i remember most how fast the second plane just suddenly appeared and how soon we are realised that everything would change

I was working from home colleagues were going to one of our sites and had heard something about it and rang me to turn on my tv and tell them what was going on.

It was horrifying watching people going from thinking it was some terrible accident to the realisation it was deliberate, particularly after the strike on the second tower, it was all just so unbelievable.

I was about to start university and had already got a job in the uni library. Term hadn't started yet but a lot of the foreign students had already arrived.

Was working installing a software update on all the PCs when loads of people started coming in to use them. Realised they were mostly American and asked what was going on.

I ended up heading down the the Porters lodge where I knew they had a TV, they were already watching the news so I got them to bring it up where everyone could watch it.

25 years on, DD is just about to start university, I'm hoping nothing equally momentous happens this time round.

I worked for newspapers and my boss said 'go home' as nothing else will be going into the papers for some weeks. He was right of course and it was as it should be. Awful day, changed the world that day.

It's also the anniversary of my mum's passing, am raising a cuppa to her now - she loved a cuppa.

I was at uni in NYC sorting Roman tiles for my archaeology class when we heard
on the radio that a plane had crashed into the WTC. Our first thought was that it was a horrible accident but as the day wore on, it wasn't. I remember a friend sleeping on my dorm room floor cos he couldn't get home and my family ringing me in fear that I wasn't all right and not being able to get through.

My uni was not close to the WTC but we could still see the smoke. It was awful.

I was at work in Dublin. We saw the report online of the first plane but the internet went down after the second plane. I remember driving home past Dublin airport – it was spooky seeing all the planes lined up, going nowhere.

I was doing a PhD and we had a tv in the department and saw it unfolding … it was awful memories, and one of those dates we all remember what we were doing

We were flying to New York for our honeymoon and our plane got turned back to Heathrow. We didn't have any idea what was happening until we overheard an American family who were on a call to family back home. We ended up driving back home and didn't see any news until about midnight to find out exactly what happened. We only didn't start our honeymoon the day before as we didn't have enough money for an extra night in the hotel.

I had just got home after picking up my daughter from school. She had just started in reception and was doing half days only. As I arrived home one of my neighbours came out and asked me if I had heard the news. I said I hadn’t. At the time only the first tower had been hit. I went inside with the children (4 year old and toddler) and watched as the second tower was hit and both collapsed.

It was an extraordinary day and reminded me a bit of the day we had woken up to the news that Princess Diana had died. Obviously that was very very different in terms of scale and impact, but there was a similar feeling of shock and not quite being able to believe or process what had happened. The streets were empty on both occasions as everyone was either glued to their television screens or at work (I wasn’t working that day either, as my daughter was only a few weeks old).

I did as well. We had to close as many positions before we could leave, you "knew" CW could be next but worked on anyway. Only saw the towers had fallen when I got home. Sat in the kitchen watching my small 14 in SONY TV all evening with tears streaming. My husband came in about 9 not having heard the news. My company lost 13 people because our Head of Security was a total hero who had after 1993 said we would always evacuate straight away. I think there were approx 1000 people working in the towers that day. He and his team died when they went back in to check.

Now DH and I were in Sydney on a post uni year travelling. We worked in the same telecommunications company and didn’t know about it until the next morning as it happened overnight in Australia. I just remember watching the tv in the office.

I was at work and someone rushed in to say that a plane had crashed into the twin towers in NY, we went across the road to the tv shop and watched the news footage in horror. I was so worried about friends who were on holiday in New York and couldn't get in touch with them. Found out days later that they were ok, they'd been up to the top the previous day. Also, I didn't know at the time that I was just pg with D1, when I found out I was so upset thinking about the world I was bringing her into.

I recently saw a documentary about Mark Knopfler and he talked about the song he wrote after reading about the last phone calls made by people on the planes and in the WTC to their loved ones. He sings it with Emmylou Harris.

I had been living in my first flat for a few months, just turned 21. I recall being at home that day and watching with increasing horror and disbelief as the news unfolded. It was very shocking and I was struck by the unimaginable horror that had befallen of all those involved.

I was quite disturbed by it all and the events that followed. I think the fact I was a young adult living alone compounded this feeling and that sort of innocent view I had of the world pre 9/11 never returned. I don't think the world has been the same since.

I had come home from work feeling unwell and was planning on spending the afternoon lying on the sofa watching TV. I turned it on and my first thought was DH had been watching a DVD and it was still playing. Tried to turn it back to the BBC and realised it wasn't a dvd. Changed to itv and it was showing the same. I ran outside thinking I needed to tell someone and told the builder working next door.
At the time my PIL were on holiday in Florida and couldn't get home. My DM and DD were due to fly to Canada but couldn't leave the UK as the airport they were due to fly to was being used for diverted flights.

I was at work. We watched it on dial up AOL internet!
I had been to the twin towers not long before also. It was surreal.

Was in the barbers trying to bribe my toddler with raisins to have his hair cut when I looked up at the tv and saw the plane going into the tower. I assumed it was a film. I had no idea the that my brother was just then meant to have been at the passport office next door but turned back at the last minute.

I was working for a large American corporation in Paris and someone messaged over instant messaging that something big had happened so we turned on the TV and were in absolute shock. I remember how quiet the streets were when I left work.

Same, I heard bits and pieces about it from different people and only saw it on TV in the late evening when I got home. I remember I had a moped then and had been from work to home hundreds of times but it seemed to take forever that day because I wanted to see the TV and find out what had actually happened. People were saying WWIII was about to start and all sorts.

We were staying in Las Vegas, so three hours behind New York. I got up and went down to the coffee shop to get some breakfast, totally unaware anything had happened. Very strange atmosphere, in the lift back up to my room, someone said to me wasn’t it dreadful what had happened, I didn’t like to say that I had no idea what she was talking about. Rushed back to the room, put the tv on and could not understand what I was seeing. The Towers were already down by this time, I was looking at a scene of devastation. Had a growing sense of horror as I began to realise what had happened. We left New York for Vegas the Sunday before 9/11, seemed very close to home.

The next few days were some of the most frightening of my life. We had no idea whether there would be more attacks, when or if we would be able to go home and what would happen if we ran out of money. I couldn’t watch the footage of the attacks, it was too devastating. I have never been so glad to get home.

I was at work (teacher) wird filtered through that there had been a terrible accident then that it had been deliberate. At home they played film of it over and over on TV and it seemed so unreal. My first thought was, of course, 'those poor people' then I started to fear what the repercussions would be and the world has, indeed, changed and not for the better.

My abiding memory was the sight of people jumping out of the windows having sent 'I love you' messages to their family. The thought of having to choose between death by burning to and jumping to certain death hand in hand with a work colleague still brings tears to my eyes.

I was working as a cashier in a bank, our global head office was in the WTC’s. Customers were coming in and passing comment about what was going on, it wasn’t until we closed the branch for the day and put the radio on that we heard the full devastation of events.

I remember I had a day off and was watching the news - so I watched the second plane hit. I was on the phone to my mum at the time and it was horrific. My then boyfriend, now husband, was working in a shop in Canary Wharf and the towers there were being evacuated. His company said to stay put as there was obvious foot traffic and people might like to buy some beer or wine before they make their way home...! It still resonates now, I think of all of those people who knew the end was coming and what they must have gone through in those awful final moments. It is a good reminder of not taking life for granted, to stand up for what you believe in and have a life worth living. I was then heavily pregnant during the London bombings, and wondering what kind of world my daughter would be born into. She is now 21 and living her absolute best life and thinking of going into international relations, hopefully to make the world a better place.

I was at work. We all went to the press office which had tvs. Until some stupid government minister said it was a good day to bury bad news, and then we all went back to work confirming we were not doing that.

I was on holiday on a boat in Ireland. We knew nothing about it till we saw the newspapers all lying on the counter of a shop. A day of national mourning was declared and we had difficulty getting food and had to live on tinned stuff I had fortunately packed. It felt unreal.

I worked in financial services and we had a tv in the office for financial news, someone came back from their lunch and said something was happening so we put the news on and watched live as the second plane hit. It was the most shocking thing I can remember seeing unfold in front of us all and none of us moved from the tv for hours. I’d done a pg test about an hour earlier and the thought that I was having a baby while the world seemed to be going mad was so surreal. I just wanted to pick my DS up from the childminder and be at home, everything felt so insecure all of a sudden. A day of really mixed emotions for me.

My DD who was the result of that pregnancy went to NY this year and visited Ground Zero, she found it really emotional but also beautiful. She knows the significance of the date for us both.
