Yes I have one. No I don't use it. I did use it when it was in the spare bedroom. DP complained about the noise it made in the room below. It's now in the dining room but I haven't used it. Will try to use it this winter. In all honesty, I'd rather wrap up for the weather and go outside.

tightfit · 06/09/2026 12:42

Yes, I love mine! I prefer to get out for a walk but it’s ideal for rainy days so I can still get my steps in!

Comeonbabylightmyaga · 06/09/2026 12:42

I use mine most mornings. I prefer being outside but sometimes it’s easier to use the machine.

BG2015 · 06/09/2026 12:45

Yes I've got one. Used it quite a bit over the winter when it was raining, cold and miserable. It's very heavy so wished I'd researched more and bought a lighter one. Will start using it again soon now autumn is approaching

newmenewwhatever · 06/09/2026 12:49

I was tempted with one but I’ve opted for waterproof gear and new boots for winter

Sitow · 06/09/2026 12:51

I loved mine, I don’t use it as much now as I’ve changed from a desk job but I still do on weekends and just watch some TV. But when I was doing my work from home desk job, I paired it with standing desk and used to use it all morning

MelonSorbet · 06/09/2026 12:52

🙄 Yes, it's called a pavement, takes me from right outside my house to anywhere I want to go.

Clemdfandango · 06/09/2026 12:53

Yes I have one.

I initially bought one without the handrails but I fell off it 2 or 3 times, so sent it back and got one with handrails.

I haven't used it this summer because it's been far too hot and I hate sweating so as soon as the weather cools down I'll don my headphones and walk to my playlist on Spotify.

DustyMaiden · 06/09/2026 12:54

I have one my balance isn’t brilliant. Wish I’d bought it with rail support.

BatchCookBabe · 06/09/2026 13:08

You mean a treadmill? Confused

Nope. Like a previous poster, I go outside. Much healthier and fresher.

SilenceInside · 06/09/2026 13:13

I’ve got a treadmill, it’s not under my desk though. I use it all the time, I have childcare responsibilities and often can’t just leave the house and use the pavement. Walking or running on a treadmill is just as healthy as walking or running outside. I’d hate to think that anyone was put off become more active by thinking that using a treadmill/walking pad was somehow a bad thing.

MamaBobo · 06/09/2026 13:23

My Dad has one, designed for walking rather than a more heavy duty treadmill for running. He’s in his 80s, his balance isn’t fabulous and he wants to stay active. It’s great, he can get a walk at the perfect pace and distance to suit how he feels on a given day, no matter what the weather. No fear of falling on slippery or uneven pavements, no worries about over extending himself.

Not everyone can get outside for a walk and not everyone lives somewhere it’s pleasant or safe to go out for a walk. It’s been a brilliant buy for him and has kept him fitter and more mobile.

SomethingNewish · 06/09/2026 13:58

I stopped going to gym many years ago for a few reasons. And i bought myself a variety of equipment to use at home over the years. Some I got my money's worth out of - notably the exercise bike, some I actually enjoyed- the rowing machine, and some I just never used - the mini trampoline springs to mind.

I never bought a treadmill because I knew I would find it so boring i would never use it. I understand that for some people who can't get outside to walk or run these are extremely useful. But for me I really enjoy walking outside and no matter how I try to occupy my mind on a treadmill it's just plain tedious.

So I think it's a very personal decision OP as to whether you would actually use the thing if you bought it.

This!!
Not everyone wants/is able to walk or run outside. There's nothing wrong with using a walking pad or treadmill if that is what people prefer.

Not everyone feels safe going out alone on dark winter evenings. I think walking pads are a great idea after kids have gone to bed & you can watch your favourite show in the comfort of your home.

SilenceInside · 06/09/2026 14:15

@SomethingNewish I get bored on any kind of exercise machine, so I use the time to catch up on watching programmes or rewatching old favourites. I love going outside for a walk, I have various local walks which are wonderful places to visit. But very often I am in sole charge of my children and so can’t go out of the house. For various reasons, they can’t come with me, before anyone suggests that.

DoubleShotEspressox · 06/09/2026 14:19

I have a desk that can be standing or sitting so I try to on average walk for at least two hours while working every day. Love mine. Lost weight and toned up since I got it.

To the holier than thou who ONLY walk on a pavement. Good for you. But I work at least 50 hours a week at a desk and then have kids to look after, so instead of sitting and waiting for my heart attack, I use this.

Frequency · 06/09/2026 14:20

I had one. It was rubbish for anything other than a light stroll. The belt would catch and stall if you walked too fast and god forbid you attempted to jog on it. I gave to my sister and bought a budget treadmill instead.

HAHAHA hilarious! 🙄

does 'the pavement' also allow you to exercise when it's raining, or extremely hot, or keep you safe if the only time you can exercise is at night, or let you multitask by exercising while watching tv/in a work meeting, or provide a softer surface if you have joint/mobility issues or let you increase and decrease the steepness at will or give you the option to exercise while keeping an eye on the kids at the same time, in your own home without men potentially beeping their horn or shouting abuse or sexualised comments towards you?

If you don't want one, don't buy one, but it doesn't take much thought or imagination (although apparently more than you are blessed with), to see why other people might benefit. Either, way, snide comments add nothing to the thread.

moppety · 06/09/2026 15:04

I have a standing desk so I do sometimes use my walking pad. I’m not sure work would appreciate me disappearing to use the pavement for two hours during my shift! But rest assured I use the pavement plenty as I average about 15k steps a day and run about 40km a week outside. But it’s nice to be mobile instead of spending seven hours sitting at a desk.

Mine is a Walking Pad Z1 and it’s really good.

A walking pad fits under your desk so you can walk while you work.

OP I had one for a while, but I just can’t walk and work at the same time, so I sold it. Several colleagues have them and love them though.

I do have a treadmill which I use a lot in winter when the days are so short and it’s -15 outside and the pavements are sheet ice. (Not in the UK.)

There’s always one! 🙄

chilipie · 06/09/2026 15:23

I have one! Use it everyday. I find walking in my local area very boring, and the slightest weather change too hot, wet or cold immediately demotivates me. It’s great to exercise while watching TV and keeps me motivated to keep going. 30 minute show, power walk to the end. Works for me :)

ItsABatFaceThing · 06/09/2026 15:23

Be very careful anyone out there who suffers with motion sickness. I got one. Used it once, stepped off it and vomited

not for me!
