Does he fancy me?

There’s a guy I really fancy and I am sure he likes me too, but as he is quite a bit younger than me I am feeling extra cautious about reading the signs as I don’t want to make a complete tit of myself. I am worried in case he doesn’t fancy me but knows I fancy him and is taking the piss (I don’t think he is, but this doubt is stopping me from making the first move).

Would you say he fancies me based on the following:

We have had a lot of eye contact and smile at each other every time.

I have caught him looking at me and quickly looking away.

I asked him for help with something silly a few days ago (I didn’t need help really!) not exactly related to his role and he obliged and we had good eye contact and smiles again for the short time this happened.

A couple of days after this, I caught him looking at me from a distance and we smiled et each other and he turned around and I could see his reflection in the window - he had a massive grin on his face. He later stood by the window smiling at me while I stood outside packing my bag.

Last night I was about to leave the shop and he stood in quite a prominent position and we looked in each other’s eyes and I said bye to him and gave him a smile and he did the same back, then closed his eyes, then opened them looking right into my eyes again while smiling. No one has ever done this to me, and I’m a bit confused as to what it means, but it looked sexy and cute. What does this mean???

I should add that he seems a little shy, also that I often have my children with me when I visit the shop which obviously creates a bit of a barrier potentially to any flirting.

So, do you think he fancies me?

How old are you? This is crazy if you are any older than 19. Just ask him out, and see what he says? The eye thing just sounds fucking weird

ShitFacedShakespeare · 04/09/2026 13:36

So he's a shop assistant and you're a customer?

wednesday32 · 04/09/2026 13:46

We really need more context as we are only working with eye contact, which is a big part of customer service if he works in a shop that you visit as a customer. The intense blinking would freak me out, not sure I would see it as flirting.

Yes he absolutely fancies you. I’m off to buy my hat.

Do you ever smile at each other? Don't think you mentioned it 😁

ShitFacedShakespeare · 04/09/2026 13:52

To be honest, the eye closing/opening thing could be completely unrelated.

Like tiredness or a contact lens problem?

I feel like I’ve just read a transcript of a conversation my friend and I would have repeatedly. Aged 14.

I mean he might - but if he's in a customer facing role surely it's his job to be friendly/smiley/polite/make eye contact etc??

Slightly strange wording though... how much older are you?

Naurrr · 04/09/2026 13:57

It all sounds weird and obsessive. A young shop worker was smiling when you were staring at his reflection? I think you're reading too much into his customer service interactions.

Shellityhorn · 04/09/2026 14:00

I think I remember previous posts from this poster or someone very similar? At least there was a male retail worker, I think in a supermarket, whose body language, expressions and positioning in the shop she was tracking obsessively for evidence he fancied her.

Maybe he's just really good at eye contact? We need more context.

I can’t reply to everyone individually - but to clarify:

He is a Security Guard.
There is probably around - 10-15 year age gap.
I have never posted about anything similar before.

Yes - it was all over in seconds, and yes I was looking at him as he closed his eyes and then opened them again.
