I'm 57 and he was a staple on TV when I was growing up, I loved him ☹️

How sad. He had a cheeky smile.

Nightnova · 04/09/2026 12:01

Aww that's sad. I occasionally watch Man About The House for the nostalgia.

Shellityhorn · 04/09/2026 12:02

Child me really fancied him in Dick Turpin...

augustusglupe · 04/09/2026 12:02

That’s sad. I love watching repeats of Man about the House xx

So many fond TV memories here.

ThePineappleSeahorse · 04/09/2026 12:07

Very sad. I believe that he’d been in very poor health for a long time. I had a childhood crush on him solely from reading the Dick Turpin book I bought from a school fete. I was born after the series was shown but I fell in love with the pics of him and really enjoyed the series when I finally got to see it. I still have the dvds. I watched him in Robin’s Nest on Youtube a few years ago and he was great in that.

PauliesWalnuts · 04/09/2026 12:09

Very sad - I loved him. He’d been a resident of Brinsworth House for a long time.

devildeepbluesea · 04/09/2026 12:10

Oh very sad. He'd been in Denville Hall for donkeys years, but I loved him in the 70s / 80s.

REP22 · 04/09/2026 12:10

I'm sorry to learn of this. He had been in poor health and in a care home for a while, but he was fantastic in his prime. Dick Turpin and Me and My Girl! RIP. x

Ah - I thought it was Denville Hall.

I watched Carry on Teacher recently and he was a school boy in it.

Davros · 04/09/2026 12:15

I was just thinking that @devildeepbluesea he was a child actor

Dollymylove · 04/09/2026 12:16

Richard Sullivan in Man about the House, which spawned the spin off George and Mildred.
Back when comedy was still funny.
Robins Nest with Tessa Wyatt. Didn't she leave Tony Blackburn for Richard?
Correct me if im wrong

MamaBobo · 04/09/2026 12:23

Aww…he had been unwell for a long time. I adored him back in the day. Loved Man About the House and Robin’s Nest but Me and My Girl was my favourite. He had a really cheeky twinkly look, in a nice rather than sleazy way!

KatyKan · 04/09/2026 12:37

Was he in a film about a village Brass Band that was consistently out of tune?

Me too. I wrote to Jim'll Fix It to see if I could ride Black Bess with Dick Turpin 😳

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 04/09/2026 12:59

I loved him when I was young. RIP Richard.

It's on Talking Pictures TV, 6, 25PM on Saturdays.
He still looks hot Smile

goingtotown · 04/09/2026 13:17

Happy memories of him in Man About the House. He was 82

Netcurtainnelly · 04/09/2026 13:28

He's been in a nursing home ages hasn't he. Went downhill early. Everyone seems to be dying lately.

Washingupdone · 04/09/2026 13:53

Sad, I enjoyed watching him in Man about the House. RIP.

IAmKerplunk · 04/09/2026 13:58

I loved Me and My Girl! Can still sing the theme tune 🙈

MadisonAvenue · 04/09/2026 13:59

How sad. I’m 57 and if I think of TV that I loved when I was a child, Man About The House and Robin’s Nest are right there.

whippersnapper55 · 04/09/2026 14:28

Omg I loved him when I was young - that cheeky smile! I wanted to be Dick Turpin when I grew up 😂
