I need to moan about myself.

I have about 18? Blinds that i need to put up. They have been stacked in my living room for at least 2 months.

I need to hang the doors in my storage unit. Been like that for about 2 months.

I need to put 3 chests of drawers together they have also been sitting there for about 3 months.

I need to moved ds bedroom contents down to his new bedroom.

I need to catch up on washing as always and general house work.

Oh yeah and I need to fit a new stair carpet

I bought ds a massive bundle of clothes from vinted. But managed to mix it up with his old clothes now I don't know whats what.

Energy is zero right now. It normally picks up a bit in the afternoon. So in a while I will put some music on and at least do something. Ds wants us to build something together. I don't even know where my tools are probably spread all over the house not where they should be. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a screw driver in the freezer

Welcome to my world. I currently have a washing machine waiting to be plumbed in sat in the middle of my lounge! I am however, in bed, shivering with the lurgy. Great excuse. Except everyone who knows me knows it would still be there whether or not I was ill 😂

LittleGreenDragons · 26/08/2026 11:40

Oh... I thought you were going to say get dressed instead of staying in pj's until noon or actually use the washing machine to get the laundry pile down or go on the energy website to lock in a good deal...

But you mean jobs. Real household work 😱

EDIT. Throw in a load of washing and then start moving his bedroom to the new one. Depending on how long the cycle is (mine is an hour) you can use it for timing and treat yourself to a cuppa before doing the next load/hour of moving. But I'm saying this stuck on MN and in bed with a purry sleepy cat on my lap.

shoofly · 26/08/2026 11:47

I hear you, I need to go out and buy a baby present, pick up a prescription and some bits of shopping.
DH emptied the utter shit tip which is the spare room into DS1 bedroom for me to sort.
I have rage cleaned the bathroom and part of the spare room.
DS2 and I did a charity shop run, and a tip run yesterday and dS1 room still is horrific. I need to get back in there and try to tackle the rest of it but DS2 and I are drinking coffee ...
He's back at school tomorrow and I'd rather not be cleaning. But DS1 will be home from 8 weeks in London on Saturday night and I'd rather his room was accessible...

Friendlygingercat · 26/08/2026 12:51

Ive got a parcel which arrived a week ago and I havn't opened it yet.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 26/08/2026 12:52

First item on the agenda.. write a list. Then take a break. Then review the first item on the list and divide into 4 or 5 steps or more, small 5 min ones. Step one: open a box and put into recycling. Cross each step out as you do it. Take a short break after every 2 steps. Take a long break after a whole task or take the rest of the day off. This system is the only thing that works for me when I get overwhelmed.

MyLuckyPeachOtter · 26/08/2026 12:55

I’ve realised the trick is to plan to do one or two things a day (on top of daily/weekly chores). You need to be realistic so it doesn’t become overwhelming and you actually do it.

I'm at least dressed not properly though. Look like I been dragged through a hedge. But yeah I do need to do washing. Always do.

Yes thats exactly what I do , I have a 15,20,30, 1hr for my short washes. I challenge myself to do as juch as I can during them minutes.

18 is too many to think about. Just think about 1 blind, getting 1 up would be a great achievement.

Violetdeparma · 26/08/2026 14:25

Op can you use the 5 mins method ?put a timer on and promise yourself you will only do 5 mins ...hopefully you will want to carry on but if not it doesn't feel as daunting and you are allows to stop !

It's three hours later. The cat has moved, I have not.

You are winning at this - waves hand - malarkey.

I do this to. Even more so near Christmas. Because I know what it is. Then I end up with about 10 parcels. Think I still know what they are when I don't. End up with double and short pg what I actually needed.

Our two local (ish) tips have been closed since July and no date given for re opening.
Our local (ish) charity shops are currently not taking donations.
I could weep.
We've got so much stuff for the tip (garden project and house project) and some really good stuff for the charity shops from dhs late uncles house.
Sigh.
I'm pottering around doing what I can, but the piles of stuff is getting to me 😕

paomara · 26/08/2026 14:39

I'm exhausted reading your list OP. I'd have given up long ago and paid for someone to do it for me. Fitting a carpet?, Assembling furniture? Fitting 18 blinds? Are you completely mad or what. 😊

I would never get anything done 🤣

I do similar though when my energy levels are really bad. I will have a day where I do washing and each cycle i just sit in my butt. I do a few washes so at least something that needs doing is getting done.

Cuppachuchu · 26/08/2026 14:53

You are overwhelmed OP. Start slow.
I would try to split your blind hanging into one a day. I'd bet after the first 2 or 3 days you'll do more. Once you see how good they look.

TheChosenTwo · 26/08/2026 14:53

Honestly I thought it was just going to be a general “i need to put some washing on and hoover the stairs” kind of motivation kick up the backside - your list of jobs would have me signing up to airtasker and getting someone in to do a lot of that. I could do it myself but when my motivation is lacking I don’t hesitate to buy help in!

FannybygaslightinGovan · 26/08/2026 14:53

I think this thread should be titled - tell me you have executive disfunction without telling me...

Install the sharing app Olio.

There is a free version.

Take a photo of what you want to get rid of, list it, and most likely someone will want it, and come to collect it.

I got the app in the first lockdown, when all the chsrity shops were closed and I couldn't get rid of stuff. Sometimes it was just "bag of women's clothing"

I leave the items in a crate by the front door - contactless collection.

I'm a Food Waste Volunteer now for Olio - once a week I collect the days reduced food from my local Tesco and list it. People come and collect it, so it gets used and not just thrown away.

My council takes about 6 weeks to pick up bulky items. I have no where to store things so it looks shit.
Could you donate things via free cycle or similar?

due to conditions and illness' i have to be very careful what i do or i get exhausted and end up in pain.
i do it one job at a time for a start. washing perhaps and i have just got a dishwasher so its easier for me to keep on top of the washing up.
what job is more important? i would say moving bedrooms its the holidays so he can help. the mixed up clothes? maybe wash the lot so they are all clean regardless then see which fit and which your son likes.
make a list of what is important in order

I couldn't do 18 blinds in one day. I would get bored and start messing it up. I will try and do 2 or 3 a day. As part of my getting the room set up as I want it. Bit like a finishing touch.

I will definitely do quite a bit today. I have promised DS we can build some furniture together. So i have to also once I get started I will hopefully get a good amount done.
