Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

Haven’t rtft. You should have put the stuff back yourself. I hope that she has daughters whose fighting skills are as dirty as your disgusting vile language.

Can I just say that Waitrose sacked a long standing member of staff for challenging a shoplifter recently (wrongly, in my opinion). A member of staff who has just told a member of the public that’s she’s sick of them behaving like they own the store ought to be getting their cards as well. She’s not suited to customer facing roles.

Yes, OP was out of order, I think we’ve established that and OP has also acknowledged it, but this employee has significant issues of her own to
be saying stuff like that to people shopping. She needs a written warning for an indiscretion like that.

As well as telling OP to shop in Asda or Aldi, because they’ll be used to language like that. Some of the responses on this thread are very telling indeed. I find the Asda / Aldi insult more offensive than OP’s original tirade.

I didn’t say they did - but they definitely have a policy whereby people who work there decide which products are and are not for sale.

If you don’t believe me, try and walk into the warehouse at the back of the store and shopping the products that are kept in there - you’ll quickly find out that it is the employees who choose what is and isn’t available for their customers to shop from.

But the melon pots were all on the shelf so surely they’re all for sale? Don’t yourself look silly by trying to defend the indefensible.

Yeah my gut tells me that this wouldn't have been the story from her side. You seem all sweetness and light, were polite, re-fixed the display and tried to calm it down but I don't buy it.

I read it as you wanted one from the back (absolutely fine). You knocked over 5-6 pots (doesn't matter if they were tightly packed). You probs continued to get what you wanted and didn't try to put them back. The employee said something. You didn't like that she made a comment so you responded with it was your choice to take what you wanted (starting to sound defensive and combative), she was chuttering (your impression but nothing was exactly said). You continued to not like it and told her to leave it - why, just walk away.

Then you went absolutely nuclear. It isn't at all normal to hit 100 like that off that bat.

My take is you were annoyed she said anything, you tried to prove your point and didn't like here reponse and when she didn't genuflect to you, up went nuclear.

Irrespective of the employee - no on should ever be spoken to that way. Ever. And geez if there were children around - where was your head?

You were banned because they can't genuinely say you won't escalate and cause issues further. Despite you deflecting to it was all the employees fault and you just reacted - you have a very shared responsibility here. YABVU.

Your numerous responses (including this being your second response to my comment, hours apart) including those which were moderated, show my first instinct was correct.

How far are we going to take this analogy exactly? Because it passed ‘ridiculous’ right around the time you claimed that staff on the shop floor have the job of preventing people from buying products sat on the shelves.

If I wanted the shortest date produce, or any old jacket spud I would do an online order, but they fuck those up too often, I generally treat people how they treat me.
Not sure i would comment on her looks as no one can help how they are born but I would of commented on her snotty behaviour.
