Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

Well that was uncalled for OP (but you know that already). Whatever it is you’re stressed about, you need to address it asap.

They were right to ban you. You were way out of line. That should have been an inner monologue .

Please don't write a letter, please apologise in person. A letter won't be meaningful.

If anything like this ever happens to me, I am going to use the term fuckity melon. Or fuckity whatever else drops to the floor.

I can't believe the posters saying @Alderedge1 shouldn't take a package from the back. Of course she should if she knows it'll be in her fridge a few days. There's a reason Anne Robinson is employed - part of her job is fronting to make sure that short life fruit gets picked up by people who have the money to replace fruit that goes off the next day.

I lift produce trays and go hunting around for longer dates. I know now that I will be saying fuckity tomatoes when a packet drops on the floor when I do. Love it.

Honestly what you said is pretty unforgivable. I personally am shocked. As to what the staff member said she was probably frustrated and understandably so. You did act like you owned the place as you knocked over produce and also rearranged stock. I think you have some serious issues. So what she was rude.

Never been banned from anywhere ever ( well I was banned from the local swimming pool when I was 14, but that was 30 years ago)

She sounds very annoying and you e said you were in the wrong.
I don’t think the manager was wrong to ban you, maybe write in a years time and apologise again and request to shop there.

I speak as someone with a rough upbringing too.. you went way too far. But at the (very) least, you seem to know that. I would honestly get a bit of therapy, just to help move on from that immediate fight or flight thing that childhoods like ours unfortunately instil in us. It's no fun, not being able to predict if you might suddenly go from 0-100mph emotionally, I know, I've been there!

I would probably send a note of apology to the woman too, definitely she was a bit overzealously rude, but it might make you feel better and draw a healthier line under it. Which is more important than being right, in terms of personal development.

There was absolutely no need to comment on the woman's physical appearance. Did it make you feel better about the situation?
