Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

What's wrong with Anne Robinson? Are you jealous of her?

I think the OP is turning rude on purpose now (on this thread) in the hope the thread is deleted, because she knows she's embarrassed herself, and the thread did NOT go the way she wanted.

No embarrassment here. I was interested to get people’s take on it, but I’m not really the sort of person that needs acceptance r for everyone to agree with me. I actually think that it’s the thing that’s made my successful

You said you wanted attention, acceptance and love earlier.

I think the OP is angry and kicking back because she's being attacked from all sides. People are basically calling her a scrote, a thief, a bad mother, a bad friend, a troll and an all round nasty piece of work. The hypocrisy is staggering. I'm not excusing what the OP did, but she's acknowledged that it was a bad thing and has been honest about the event. I dont think the was expecting this level of viciousness.

Edited for typo.

I think OP was being ironic with that response

You’re clearly unable to read sarcasm

Thank you for supporting me, but honestly I’m totally fine. I expected mixed reactions. I’m not really affected by other people’s options opinions

I haven’t read all the thread apart from the OPs posts

I rumage around for good dates too so that bits ok but I don’t understand why people explode so readily. I don’t know whether people literally can’t help themselves - which is obviously very bad- or that they can help themselves but think it’s the best way to deal with something - which is also very bad.
I swear but I’d never swear at someone in anger. I find it nasty and aggressive. I don’t know if tv and films where lead characters are huffing and puffing all the time encourage people to do the same. It’s mindlessly aggressive.
Im not sure if the OP has clarified whether is was an uncontrollable outburst or whether she deliberately behaved like that.
When I drive I see the same dickheads as everyone else but I just let them get on with their day. If every one chilled out a bit life would be a lot nicer.
There are times when you need to assert yourself but the most effective way of doing that never involves behaving aggressively.
If I were you OP I would write and apologise. That’s if you regret what you did. You don’t know the woman’s circumstances and people spoken to like that may have really upset her. As you can see by a lot of these replies there are plenty of people who love to try and cause other people upset but I wouldn’t like that myself.

I am going to apologise tomorrow but if only because I let myself down and I want to use the shop again. In all honesty I’m not really bothered if I upset the lady. If you speak to people like shit then some of those people will react. I’m one of those people.

Maybe modify your behaviour a bit going forward, as you may encounter someone who will not care if they upset you by decking you in the piehole.

I totally agree that I could meet my match. I’d be useless in a fight. I’m all arms and legs. It would be like Bambi having a scrap.

I fucking love the term piehole btw x

Mykneesareshot · 24/08/2026 21:20

I'm glad her boss backed her up. As an ex Waitrose employee (partner is a joke word), I dealt with many rude customers and never had the backing of a manager once. One of my colleagues got slapped and they still didn't ban the lady who did it.

You are a little unhinged, but I like you. Next time, tell the shop lady to shut her piehole instead of her fanny, more polite 🤓

No of course not.
I didn't mean it that way. I'm sorry.

Does it not bother you that you might have hurt her feelings with those personal comments?

She's only apologising because she was inconvenienced. She doesn't give a stuff about the woman's feelings.

I know it’s bad, It was just her nastiness and rudeness over nothing, I am going to try and email an apology

She wasn't nasty or rude. She said it wasn't on. She was a pain in the neck, but all you had to do was walk away. You hadn't actually done anything wrong. You are quite right. You can take whichever product you wish to buy.You just should have ignored her.

You are the one who was nasty and rude.
