Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

Am I the only person who finds this funny? The shop keeper was being silly as a person can buy whichever date they like. Otherwise we’d all end up shopping every day or eating expired food.

She will think again before berating a grown adult.

Several people have said it was hilarious. I don't think it's remotely funny. I doubt she'll think again either. She seems incapable of self control and her only regret appears to be that she's been inconvenienced.

Don’t ever go to Australia or you’ll have a stroke

Is it acceptable in Australia to abuse people in their place of work?

They say Cunt every 3 seconds

Someone is doing their job. You were beyond rude and I’m not surprised you’ve been banned.

But it's not true though is it? Was it actually her job to dictate to the customers which particular items they can take off the shelf for purchase?

There are presumably no signs up in the supermarket telling customers that they are only permitted to take items from the front of the shelf? So the supermarket employee had no business telling off a customer for choosing which item to pick. The whole point of a supermarket is that it's self-service and you get to choose which loaf of bread, which pack of tomatoes and which tub of melon you want to buy. If it's on the shelf, it's inviting customers to buy it.

Not what I asked.

But it’s what I was implying. The poster was insinuating that the word itself was so horrifying to women of ‘her age’ and that that was the main issue. So that is why I replied that to them because they don’t like hearing that word. You deciding to bring it back to the central exclamation is neither here nor there.

Do you generally use sexist and ageist terms to describe other women?

Well retail and hospitality staff probably hear the c word every day - in their place of work.

Directed at them? They shouldn't have to put up with that.

No just the busy body ones :)

They would actually- I was very very careful about not swearing in front of them as kids, despite me being naturally very potty mouthed. My mums nickname for me was “ little cunt” from the age of 8 onwards

So what? You have grown up children which means you are beyond well old enough to know better and take responsibility for what comes of your mouth. You know that kind of talk isn't acceptable, it's abusive and foul, and you've had your entire adult life, Decades!, to improve yourself.

You deserve the ban.

Dunno about Australia, but it is considered very offensive here, perhaps only among older women who don't count (although that possibly isn't true)

So much care about trigger warnings and the sensibilities of the young, much less about the older generations, it seems, it's OK though, she was a 60 year old pointy faced witch, according to @Alderedge1

Is it acceptable to bother and tell off grown adult customers in stores in Australia?

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 24/08/2026 17:42

How appalling. You deserve the ban. No-one should be spoken to like that, and certainly not in their place of employment. Get a hold of yourself.

I hear you however in all of my life I’ve never had an argument with a member of staff in a shop. I’ve literally shopped in that supermarket hundreds of times

Well you won't be shopping there any more. You behaved appallingly.

Charlieiscool · 24/08/2026 17:44

That poor woman. You really are vile.

Kate011 · 24/08/2026 17:45

ilovesooty · 24/08/2026 17:41

Wow.

these kind of women tend to be sexist and agist themselves. Usually bothering young women

and if it makes you feel better I use “Kevin” for the male version

Kate011 · 24/08/2026 17:45

the shock and outrage at the word “cunt” shows just how many Yanks have infiltrated this uk website

Nobody cares about trigger warnings and offended young people except said left wing young people. It’s really not as much of a thing as mature people seem to think. Most young people also think all of that is nonsense and that everyone needs to chill out.
