Toyota Yaris vs Peugeot 2008 - anyone driven either?

I’m getting back on the road after a break from driving for health reasons, and I’m choosing something on the smaller/cheaper side this time so I’m not risking too much on a car, as secondhand prices have gone up a fair bit lately anyway.
I’ve narrowed it down to two, and I really like both, so hoping some Mumsnetters might have driven one or the other:

• Toyota Yaris 1.5 115HP Icon Auto, 2024, ~28,700 miles
• Peugeot 2008 1.2 130HP GT Premium, 2022, ~52,000 miles

I like that the 2008 sits higher up on the road (easier getting in and out), but I don’t do much motorway driving, maybe once a month, so I’m not sure that matters as much as I first thought. My kids are all off at college with their own cars now, so I don’t need the extra space in the back like I used to either. Has anyone driven either of these? Would love to hear how they compare for reliability, comfort, and just general day-to-day driving.

No but check the peugeot doesn't have a PureTech engine. Nightmare waiting to happen.

Toyota is a much more reliable brand.

I have a Yaris, it's easy to drive and very reliable.

I have a Yaris Icon, I think it’s a really nice drive. I had an older Yaris also great and between myself & DH we have had quite a few Toyota cars over 35 years-no complaints and they’re low maintenance as well as reliable. We will be buying again in future

I've had both. I never rreally got on with the Yaris but the Peugeot is a delight. Much more fun to drive.

Wow thank you all, that’s really helpful - @bemorepollyannnaits a Yaris icon. I am leaning more towards the Toyota for all those reasons and also because if I had to sell again the resale value on Toyota is good. But my last car was a Peugeot 3008 and was great to drive, my car before that was a big old 7 seater, so I haven’t driven a small car since before I got married. Do you find it good on motorways, comfy for long drives? My back can be tricky

I have a much older Yaris. It's very reliable. The headlights aren't amazing but I imagine a modern one would be a lot better and you can just switch the bulbs out. The only thing is if you're doing motorway driving and the weather is bad it can be a bit rough because it's not very heavy. But it doesn't look like there's a massive weight differential between those two cars in any case?

Here is a pic of the two cars. Both lovely, Peugeot is 2022 with 52000 miles on it and the Yaris is 2024 with 28000 approx miles on it

mine is also a Yaris Icon 1.5, slightly older than yours. It’s fine on motorway, feels powerful enough - and comfortable. I have sciatica and don’t feel it’s a problem, seats are supportive for me

That’s great thank you @bemorepollyannnagood to know! I think also becasue it’s been 15 months since I last drove I’m a little less confident (actually kind of terrified) and it might be easier to get back into driving with a smaller car as the Peugeot felt really big when I test drove it today

I test drove a 2008. Didn’t like it.
I had a Yaris and loved it.

I’m on my third Yaris one after the other, the current one is an 18 reg Icon hybrid, I love it. It is roomier than it looks and all of them have been extremely reliable, also Toyota have a great warranty scheme so long as you get them serviced at an approved garage.

We bought a 68 plate Yaris for the kids to learn to drive, its now done over 50,000 miles and in 5 years we’ve not had a spot of bother with it (even though I forgot to service it for the first 3 years). It’s a pleasure to drive, even on the motorway

Yaris has less miles and is newer. Peugeot 2008 is high mileage.

Check the cam belt on the Peugeot 2008, it’s what is called a wet belt and renowned for causing problems- it’s also expensive to replace. Mine went at about 40,000 miles and almost wrecked the engine!
