London what play or musical would you HIGHLY recommend for me and DH

Going to London with DH love musicals but fancy a play...hes not keen...what have you seen any recently and would highly recommend?

Or a musical see most any yoy'd recommend??

The Truth is brilliant. Starts slow and builds up fantastically.

Do go. Though the woman who plays Merchant’s wife probably steals the show.

Choir of Man was absolutely fantastic. Also enjoyed Book of Mormon but it’s not for the easily offended.

Nobody saying Into The Woods? I thought it was fantastic!

I’ll be seeing Operation Mincemeat within the next few weeks (first time), so I’m glad to see it’s so well loved on this thread.

Cabaret was excellent.
I didn't love Hadestown but lots of people do.
I'm not a musical kind of person but loved The Producers (although I think it's finishing soon).

A pal who works in the West End recommended Paddington, along with The Producers, as the two best things this year.

Book of Mormon

I was speechless after Hamilton - so were the other 3 adults I went with. Didn’t get the fuss at all. Some of the songs were quite clever / catchy, but it didn’t sweep me up like a musical (I love musicals) or have me on the edge of my seat like a play (also love plays). Wouldn’t see it again if you paid me, never listened to the soundtrack again, couldn’t tell you a thing about the storyline.

We stood awkwardly along with the rest of the audience as they gave a standing ovation so as not to look like weird outliers and just thought, what on earth was that?!

Considered name changing for this as it’s my darkest confession and I’m aware it’s a wildly unpopular opinion! OP, go, you might love it.

Back to the future - superb,

We started watching the filmed version and turned off within about fifteen minutes. Not a musical I’d pay to see (and I love musicians).

Back to the future is awesome

Another vote for Cabaret. It’s a tremendous production.

The new Sinatra musical is fantastic.

Oh Mary! is madly genius - highly recommend. Paddington is also hugely brilliant if you can get tickets.

But it tells a really detailed story. Didn't you follow it?

Caberet - as pp have said, go early for a drink and watch the pre show entertainment!

Tbf it is really fast in places and one of the few things I’m glad I watched on tv first as I had to watch it twice to understand it.

Operation Mincemeat is fantastic. I laughed all the way through Book of Mormon. The Devil Wears Prada is a fantastic production. Sticks to the film story. No really memorable songs, but easy to pick up cheap last minute tickets for good seats.

Operation Mincemeat - incredibly clever and funny and heartbreaking.
