What ideas would help improve women and girls’ safety day to day?

Ladies and girls safety ideas/ Chat.

Just a brainstorming chat.

What would ladies like to see set up or like to see that helps women and their safety.

The ladies taxi service is a good one. I don't see any lady taxi drivers though. I'm.not sure they want to do it in a big way?
Would any of you want to do it?
Think there are already female only gyms not sure? We've got ask Angela in some venues for help.

How about a messaging app where you can message or text another lady on your journey home to say your safe and your home, your in the taxi etc, just a reassuring thing.

I guess people can already do that and text friends and family. Would there be any need for a separate service?
Do all ladies tell all friends and family what they are doing all the time?

What would you like to see out there?
What do you think ladies would use?

I love to try and think stuff up or see what people would use.

There is so much around ladies and girls safety today?

@lottiegarbanzo yes I thought that too but if an entrepreneur can help me out, that’s great.

Edited

To me there’s a big difference between wanting to solve a problem and wanting to monetise fear.

OP could you tell us a little about your motivation, business background, other interests and previous successes?

How about a massive education drive to boys in schools? Women shouldn’t have to think of ways to make themselves safe.

Exactly start the education young.
Stop it getting to the "she deserved it"stage line of thinking.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 21/08/2026 23:10

I’m in Nottinghamshire we live outside of Nottinghamshire itself but last year 2 students did a “ask for Angela” surgery and more than half the bar staff had no idea what they were on about which is awful! But if they’re young and not had the training it’s not their fault.

dustabsorber · 21/08/2026 23:23

Reduce immigration from countries with a misogynistic culture

EmeraldRoulette · 21/08/2026 23:27

@lottiegarbanzo set alarms, elderly fall alarms, burglar alarms….

Alarm clocks 😂

converseandjeans · 21/08/2026 23:30

9pm curfew for men - or create women only societies. I’m fed up of hearing in the news about - bombings carried out by male political leaders, rapes, domestic violence, women being killed by their partner, babies being murdered by the new boyfriend & the list goes on. I don’t know if it’s got worse or whether it’s my age, or perhaps constant access to the news…

Pinkissmart · 21/08/2026 23:33

If society believed women when they report. Legal assistance. When it is assumed there would be swift and harsh punishment, and there is

I think there needs to be a mass revolt, a huge uprising of women all standing together and refusing to accept the status quo. All men need to know that women are not there to be raped, beaten, murdered, stalked, harassed and treated as sex objects.

Pornography should not be available for all to see. I hope future generations will look back at this point in time and think, ‘What the hell were they thinking, allowing children access to mobile phones and the internet with no limitations?’ This has poisoned and damaged children and men beyond words. The world is a pretty sickening place right now.

This was so predictable. I remember driving end of the 90s some time and they were talking on the about the internet which was just becoming a big thing, and how there had been discussions in the US about how to censor pornography but had decided not to. This was a shocking idea to me at the time as I could see so many problems ahead. And heard Sarah Vine (Goves ex-wife) the other day saying she had spoken to many men in govt about how to stop/reduce access but they didn't want to as many used porn themselves. Depressing.

men only allowed to walk on well lit streets and to not be out late at night.
men to have to text their buddy/police to say they have got where they are going without having attacked anyone.
men to wear clothing that doesn’t allow them to attack women

Sadly its always been the same for women and girls.

I think at this point we need to realise whatever women do men will find a way to break it to harm women. Teaching men humanity and empathy is most important.

PeacefulCarp · 22/08/2026 04:25

All men to be registered with local police and location tracked.
Compulsory penis cages?
Men must be back at their registered home address by 9pm and cannot leave until 6am, unless they apply for a special pass to be allowed out overnight.

There’s one female only gym near me but it welcomes men who pretend to be women, so that’s out.
To be quite honest I’d welcome women only communities, I’m fed up with men, their casual misogyny (yes even the good ones), and I’d welcome a real break from them!

Are they still allowed to do this? All the biological women should vote with their feet. Might as well go to the truly mixed one if they are being forced to be in a mixed gym anyway. .might spur the other gym into action.

notadroptodrink · 22/08/2026 07:16

I think there was a phone line you could call to keep you company on a journey home, probably city specific rather than nationwide. I’m not sure if they would have some kind of check in/alert service if you had an issue, and I’m not even sure they exist anymore. I’ll have a Google.

there’s also some kind of spray that is like a paint or ink that marks your attacker so it ties them to the crime. Again not sure if this exists here as things like pepper spray are illegal.

I saw a video of a woman pointing out that they tell us ‘don’t wear this, walk home in pairs, avoid running after dark’ all the safety tips etc but then when we report an attack or a creep it’s suddenly ‘well did he know you didn’t want to be attacked? Are you sure you aren’t just hysterical? Are you lying?’ The dissonance is unbelievable.

LlynTegid · 22/08/2026 07:18

A number of individual seats with none next to them on buses and trains. So men or indeed other women can not sit next to someone and make them uncomfortable or worse.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 22/08/2026 07:22

Don't live or go out with a violent man is my advice, that's how you would best stay safe as most of the violence and abuse is done by people we know.

Any other efforts should be focused on stopping men being violent, not focused on women keeping women safe, as if we beat up and rape ourselves.

Day to day I feel incredibly safe in London and Kent, thanks very much. We live in a very safe country in spite of constant campaigns like this on social media sites to make us all feel less safe.

How are the Urals at this time of year?

LottieMary · 22/08/2026 07:45

ban harmfulnpornography and other materials that promote hatred towards women. Prosecute misogyny as a a hate crime? An app to remind men every ten seconds not to be dicks?

i don’t know but i don’t think an app that puts blame back on women is the thing.

aliasfrog · 22/08/2026 08:08

Curfew for men

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 22/08/2026 08:12

Vansssa feltz did a shocking phone in on women feeling unsafe all the time !
It's shocking.

A charity came on and said they are working in nursery and pre school to teach boys to be kind and appparently this feeds through and makes great impacts later on.

We need a sustained campaign woven into school fabric.

Unfortunaly we have seen a phamplet released this week asking immigrant men not to rape us and treat us equally.

However we are already operating on a two tier system where girls and women are being controlled by dads/ brothers /uncles and so on and are told who to marry what to wear and where to go. ..so I feel we also need to get legal undertsnding in early with examples and what it means.

We need to teach the law and what liberty means and impress the UN rights of the child into the kids at school and that nothing trumps those and the law.

Not in the UK anyway.

Without knowledge people /kids are left in the dark. We must empower them.

Serious consultation by government with the experts in the field and proper investment in implementing their recommendations.
Ideas could include better lighting in streets and parks. CCTV in secluded areas. Higher police presence on the streets. Staffing of smaller train stations. Staffing on trains especially in the evenings. Schemes like street angels to recieve high funding to look out for women and girls when they may be vulnerable.
There's loads. But the key is asking women and women's groups and taking the intelligence we offer forward.

KayFabe · 22/08/2026 08:36

Sometimes I think women should be allowed to pack heat, in the interests of fairness. But I like the text-buddy idea - I walk alone in the countryside a lot, and might use a service like this.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 22/08/2026 08:48

Oh yes and spiking needs to be tackled head on by schools /police /politicians and perhaps fines for establishment it happens in so they take more responsibility for it.also. better CTV better staff checking etc more vigilance and help from staff

LadyChilli · 22/08/2026 09:49

Of course education and women being believed. That would be the dream but in the absence of that/accepting that it will take time:

Safe walking corridors - brightly lit streets with wide pavements, strict enforcement of not allowing hedges to overgrow, and 100% CTV coverage that is actively monitored with police prioritising calls to these streets.

A mobile app that when the AI Assistant button is pressed (possibly 2 or 3 times in quick succession), sends the phone's location and details of the owner to a monitored service which would immediately alert 999, again with police giving priority. At the same time the app would turn on phone microphone to record, turn up speaker volume to full and emit a couple of very loud "police have been called and informed of this location." There would need to be an ability to disable 999 alert on the app for testing, so at any time I could test it and see it working, including confirmation of the location being sent. It should be funded out of police budget as an attempt to demonstrate that they are actually interested in women's safety.

Does anyone seen many lady driving instructors around today I don't?

the mobile app is a good idea, but accessing it in a hurry might be tricky. Taking your idea though, redesigning a rape alarm, which has a button you can press which immediately sends the location and flags imminent police response is needed. (It should also include some sort of electrical current so you can zap the bastard, but obviously that would be illegal, although it only releases the charge when the mayday button is triggered, to reduce it being used as a weapon, should also have a tiny camera to record sound and visual; again only switch on when the alarm is activated).
