Afternoon.
Bright, sunny but cold again. Definitely autumnal now. The clocks change quite early this time - Saturday 24th into Sunday 25th. Not long at all until it really feels like winter ☃️

Gosh it's suddenly changed! Our heating is coming on all day. We used to have it on twice a day but we've had a new boiler which does it all automatically, so don't have the feeling of guilt putting it on early!

I have spent the morning on eBay shopping for lighting, just bathroom and utility room etc so nothing fancy. I started on John Lewis website, then down to Victoria Plum, down to Screwfix via Dunelm. OMG the prices. Still I've done pretty well and bought some nice plain ceiling lights, brand new, rrp £106 for £12.99 each, so it pays to be frugal!

What absolutely shocked me was I looked at a nice light which is supposed to last for 10 years then you buy a complete new light fitting!!! You don't just change the bulb, it seems. It was a decent brand, too. Is it that people just can't be arsed to change a bulb?

Oioiqueen · 08/10/2026 18:03

@TeaAndStrumpets I rang them, the bookings and his diary hadn't synced. He was here within 5 minutes of my call. He couldn't stop apologising. Very quick at sending paperwork over after his visit so no issues in the end. Why if you know your system doesn't sync that nobody is cross checking anything I don't know but it's sorted now.

Gosh that was some bargain on the lights! I'm stunned. Everything seems so throw away nowadays. I remember being a kid and threw something at the ceiling and smashed a light. My dad just went and got a replacement arm for the light and it was sorted.

Almost everything gets mended in our house! DH is a tinkerer. It really goes against the grain having to buy new stuff and I am making sure every penny counts.

I don't know if people don't have skills to mend things because they never learned at school, or because they are too busy. But not changing a lightbulb! I'm amazed. Even I can change a lightbulb, and wire a plug!

Morning all!

I woke up at five for the loo and couldn't get warm again. DH happy under the summer duvet but I think we need to get the winter one out.

I feel as if my head is going to explode, I was getting sinus pain yesterday but it's quite intense this morning. I just checked the barometric pressure and sure enough it's dropped right down. It seems it will start to rise again later today.

Hope everyone's OK.

TodayIsabetterone · 09/10/2026 09:29

Morning all
A busy day or two wirh my SIL visiting and far too much chatting on my part but it was nice to spend some time with her.
A very quiet day or two needed now to rest and recover as the fatigue is pretty awful. Shoulder pain ramped up again last night too which is frustrating but still using the patches which is due to be changed today so hopefully that’ll help things settle again. Have noticed a pattern of pain increases the day or two before I change the patch, so perhaps less effective after a week!

Sorry you’ve got sinus pain @TeaAndStrumpets thats rotten and hope it eases off. Yes it’s suddenly turned very autumnal! I actually put the heating on last night for a couple of hours ( shock, horror!) and swapped to the winter quilt finally so I actually woke up warm!

Have a good day all.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/10/2026 09:36

Bit grey here this morning.
Boycat is showing his age a lot now, still eating and pottering, but slow. It's making me very sad- even Girlcat is looking after him.

Yes I can't deny it any more! Def winter duvet this week.

@FuzzyPuffling I think they must sense when a friend is needed. When DD1's cat was very poorly with a brain tumour he snuggled into the dog's bed with him for the last few days.

I've been researching cologne for a 17 year old...minefield! Finally bought Versace Blue Jeans for the nice bottle. He only wants cash but I like to wrap something.

Oioiqueen · 10/10/2026 08:14

Morning all

Glorious sunny day here, have a good day whatever you are all up to.

Swanhilde · 10/10/2026 09:38

Gorgeous here too ☀️

I have woken up with a low level headache and could do with a day in bed resting, but I have arranged to go for lunch with friends and then DS and DiL are coming over later to play board games. I may leave the rest of them to it and sneak off to bed to watch Strictly 💃

Tomorrow I have nothing planned so that will definitely be spent in bed 😴

Have a peaceful day all 💕

HannahDefoesSpringFling · 10/10/2026 10:08

Feeling pretty fuzzy today. It may be flu jab I had on Thursday. I always hate having it as some years I get horrible lumpy, sore, itchy swelling the size of a flattish jaffa orange. This year my arm is fine. Hooray.

One year I stupidly had covid in one arm and flu in other on same day. Both got really sore and I couldn't get comfy to sleep.

Sorry. Moan moan.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 10/10/2026 10:30

Morning.
Bright breezy & chilly for us.
Woke up with a migraine yesterday. Don't get them often but they hit hard when I do. Thankfully a lot better today, just a bit meh rather than pain. Meh I can deal with.
Hope you all have a nice Saturday 😊.

Oioiqueen · 10/10/2026 10:31

@HannahDefoesSpringFling ive purposely chosen to have mine in between my treatment cycles so that I can dose up to my eyeballs on paracetamol. I felt truly awful last year when I had them. Not looking forward to having mine on Friday.

MewithME · 10/10/2026 10:36

Morning all!

It's been a long and tricky week but Saturday is here again and DS is with his Dad. I came back from work about 4.30 yesterday via the chippy, as I hadn't had lunch. So by 5.15pm yesterday, tea was done, I was in my PJS and went to bed.

I'm not quite up yet!

Woke a few times but have had a good amount of sleep at least for a change.

Thanks @CoffeeBeansGalore for the reminder about Tumeric. Ages ago I did nutritional therapy. It was actually quite good. I forgot all about it. That was one of their things. Also dried fruit I seem to remember.

I've got some nice veg in my organic delivery this week so maybe I'll do some cooking later and try and freeze some.

The pain has been present all week. Thanks @TodayIsabetterone and @Oioiqueen I think for saying about taking paracetamol and it building up. That's not a bad shout to see if it takes the edge off.

I have considered acupuncture before but I think with anything that requires an appointment somewhere else and more physical effort and driving and parking.... It feels beyond me. I really feel all I can manage is DS and work. I don't know whether it's the kind of thing you have to do as an ongoing thing or whether it's a few sessions now and again though? Maybe if it's the latter, I might manage when time is a bit easier next year. I hVe a lot on up to Xmas.

I read everyone's news and now it's all jumbled in my head !

@martha79 I am sorry about the noise. We've had noise at work and it's extremely hard to cope with. It's definitely one of my big triggers.

The barometric pressure here has risen today. Yesterday it was suddenly very low late morning and that's when my head was throbbing. It's a lot better today, the sky is blue, the sun is shining!

HannahDefoesSpringFling · 10/10/2026 10:40

@Oioiqueen I hope the jabs go smoothly for you and the effects are tiny. You have quite enough going on.

It's weighing up the inconvenience of going twice versus extra pain! No easy answer. One year I got terrible back spasms just from standing in a queue for 20 minutes in the wrong shoes....I imagined some awful reaction 😊 The massive lumps sound awful, hope you don't react too badly this time. 💕

😂😂 Thats the problem with tidying up! 😂

DD was climbing on her bed yesterday to organise some high up shelves and I heard an almighty crash. She apparently jumped on or off her bed and managed to snap the wooden base! 🙄 DH was shattered yesterday and actually resting at the time but had no choice really but to get his tool box and fix it. It was a new bed frame a couple of years ago so goodness knows how she managed that! I swear there’s always something breaking here 😂

Nothing worse than an ominous crash!

Morning. Had a bit of a broken sleep. My brain leaps into thinking about work so I have been dozing with my audiobook which is good distracting nonsense.

Just had a coffee and I'm listening to the birds.

Body is very twitchy and buzzy. Think I'd better be sensible today again. I do need to return something but I don't think going into town is a good idea. It might have to wait. Not sure what the returns window is though.

I might do a bit of cooking. Didn't do any yesterday. It'd be good to have some meals ready.

Hope you are all ok enough.

Morning all!

Glad you had a easier day yesterday, @MewithME . It's a bit more in the energy bank.

I have stopped reading the MN doom and disaster threads but DH has put his mind to the prepping task and bought rather a lot of biscuits.

Very slow packing here, I have been panicking because we have to be out in early January and we have so much bloody stuff and I can't physically help.

DH is very reluctant to throw things away, which doesn't help. He's OK if he can give things but can't bear to bin things.

Eg he unearthed a box of fax paper rolls (don't have a fax machine any more!) and we had a conversation where he was racking his brains if he knew anyone who might want them!!! Eventually and very luckily I discovered they have a shelf life, also can't put them in the recycling due to the coating so they've gone into landfill. Thank god they were in a very strong box which has been kept, always handy!

Oops think I'm moaning now 😄
