Well done Tea on managing your shower and pacing it so well. It honestly takes such discipline to pace like that so hard off to you. 👏 You must feel better for being clean snd fresh even if took so long. Hoping in your lovely new home, you’ll have a nice accessible shower.

I’m waiting for an Ocado delivery and just had a text to say ….
drumroll please…
Its The plum van!

That’s my morning!

That’s my morning!

Yes oh the relief! I remember having to do this after my first dose of covid and it seems to take forever but I have to try.

Yes I'll have all mod cons in the new house! We are having one bedroom upstairs, one down, both with ensuite. Hopefully we won't have to move again ever.

We're seeing dgd tomorrow for the first time for ages. I'd like to look well groomed! Last two occasions we had to cancel due to illness. She has grown up so much in those few months. DD sent me a video of her being pushed round Waitrose in her pram singing Frere Jacques to herself, words only her own version but she was note perfect! So hopefully a little performance 🔔

Speaking of Waitrose we don't have any fruit I don't think but that's a nice touch!

Are you feeling any different after your injection? Hope it's working some magic in the background 💕

TodayIsabetterone · 02/10/2026 12:43

Its still early days really re the injection, I think it’s a tad easier today tbough not sure how much of that is wishful thinking! I still reached for paracetamol this morning but I did read it can take 2-7 days to bed in especially after months of inflammation. It doesn’t feel horrendous tbough so I’ll take that.

Ahh that sounds perfect in the new house and a downstairs bedroom/bathroom sounds very sensible. Think I mentioned before we finally sorted our walk in shower upstairs this summer, I’d previously only been able to use the bath in that bathroom and had to go downstairs to our downstairs bathroom if I wanted a shower. Just being able to access it easily from the bedroom without stairs on top is making such a difference. I hadn't realised quite how much extra energy it was taking!

Ahh your little GD sounds adorable! Enjoy every minute and hope a performance is forthcoming.

Oioiqueen · 02/10/2026 12:58

@TeaAndStrumpets gosh that must be irritating when your heart rate behaves like that. Well done for getting it done though, that calls for lots of cups of tea and rest today.

@TodayIsabetterone yay to the plum van, which other ones do they do that you haven't had yet?

Today I have probably knackered myself out for the weekend oops. I cycled into our next town three miles there and same back. I really need to do a form of exercise, running feels far too hard and I can't swim so there aren't many other forms of cardio that I can do. We are also trying to use the car less as it costs a fortune now to fill as we all know. So I've done my bit for the environment today by getting my hair cut and visiting the library. Then back out again later to pick the kids up from school on their bikes.

I did however fall asleep at 9pm last night and slept until the alarm at 7am so I think I've charged myself back up enough for today's activities hopefully.

Yes it is frustrating with the heartrate, ever since I last had covid my oxygen levels have been generally lower and it's all related I suppose.

Well done on your biking! When we all run out of fuel you will be having the last laugh!

Oioiqueen · 02/10/2026 13:13

@TeaAndStrumpets wouldnt that be a strange utopia if we ever did? Within days you'd just see towns become overrun with cyclists and walkers. Would people relax as they wouldn't be stuck in rush hour gridlock? Would children with respiratory conditions suddenly become better overnight?

I know the first few days into covid lock down were a weird parallel universe.

Yes you probably need to let it settle a bit.

It sounds like a real bonus getting that extra shower back in use. We have deliberately planned having an upstairs bedroom which we intend to use as long as possible so as not to get the infamous Bungalow Legs. Obviously the extra climb of the stairs on top of showering uses double the energy!

Yes wasn't it a surreal time?

Also things have changed so much over the last few decades. (Probably before your time! ) There never used to be gridlock at school hometime, because children weren't routinely collected by car. Knocking off time at our local factories (machining, foundries etc) there was just a sea of cyclists as the workers rode home. Sundays were peaceful as supermarkets didn't open.

TodayIsabetterone · 02/10/2026 15:24

Well done on the cycling @Oioiqueen it’s a lovely day for it here!

Yes it’s a balance re stairs isn’t it! I think ours keep some level of fitness for me that I wouldn’t have otherwise but there have been multiple times when I’ve overdone it and climbing them just to get to bed is a challenge and I’ve really liked the idea of a bungalow!

I don't think I could cope with 2 flights which we have here but the new house is 1.5 storey with fewer stairs so hoping I'll manage. That's plan A, anyway!

Oioiqueen · 02/10/2026 16:57

@TeaAndStrumpets I grew up near a large manufacturer. They would all finish at 2pm on a Friday, they would all the be on the primary school playground in their work uniform overalls at pick up. When they went bump in my teenage years it was horrendous as every child in school had a relative who worked there. I'll never forget not seeing them all on the bikes going home that first Friday after it closed.

@TodayIsabetterone I wish bungalows weren't generally more expensive than a house (well they are here). They are so useful for people being able to keep independence for as long as possible. People should be able to downsize from a family house I.e 3 bed house to a 2 bed bungalow and not have to pay more. You are looking at 400k+ in my village for one yet can buy one of the 3 bed houses for 285k, absolutely nuts. We end up with many elderly people in our village having carers come in each day still in houses who are just living downstairs. It's sad really as a bungalow would probably keep them more independent for longer. Anyway my rant over.

Swanhilde · 02/10/2026 17:17

Happy Friday all 🥳

I have been MIA as I somehow managed to unwatch the thread and thought you were all being very quiet! I will catch up now with what I've missed ...

In other news, I received my new job contract this afternoon and found out that I started it yesterday. Nice of them to let me know 🤣

I feel really sad about what's happened to our manufacturing industries, big and small. All those skills wasted, all the jobs gone elsewhere. It seems so short sighted and I could also rant! See also, food production 😞.... It makes us really vulnerable to world events.

Round here there are loads of three storey houses which aren't very good for young families, let alone older people. And people pay ridiculous money!

Evening all.

Congratulations on starting your new job before you knew you had @Swanhilde 😂

I tried out the advice from the LC clinic physio this morning and went for a walk with a tiny bit of jogging in it (probably three lots of 30 seconds in a ten minute walk). It was OK! Did have a big nap this afternoon but that's not unusual anyway.

Very much enjoying my new multi-cooker thing, made (not very spicy) chilli this evening. Still mostly buying ready-chopped veg but it feels nice to be doing something more like actual cooking.

Your new cooker sounds useful - anything that cuts down time/effort is a win!

Well done on your little jogs, it's hopeful 🙂

Oioiqueen · 02/10/2026 20:49

@martha79 all of my scratch cook ingredients are frozen. Gets interesting now I have neuropathy that's made worse by touching hot or cold but if saves so much food waste

martha79 · 03/10/2026 08:00

Can definitely recommend the cooker (it's the John Lewis one) - I like the fact it has 'saute' mode to brown the meat and veg then you can put it on to slow or pressure cook.

@Oioiqueen I'm getting a decent stock of frozen veg (and a bit of fruit too). That is a bit tricky with the heat/ cold - I've sometimes considered gloves for getting things out of the freezer!

So far no ill effects from the running, apart from waking up at 3am really hungry. Got a day of housework and grocery delivery today (Morrisons this time so no fruit van), might start my Lego bouquet kit. And maybe a small walk as the weather's meant to be lovely.

Oioiqueen · 03/10/2026 08:19

@martha79 I generally keep onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic, coriander, blueberries, raspberries and ginger in my freezers. Sometimes I get a soffritto mix if I can find one as they are great as a pie or soup base.

Someone my MIL knows has just retired from a freezer warehouse job. They are sending me their old gloves, happy days for me! Sounds sad but I'm quite excited about being able to clear out my freezer without yelping like a dog everytime I touch something.

Swanhilde · 03/10/2026 09:01

Morning all. Quiet recovery day for me. Still getting used to working at the end of the week and not the beginning. As of next week I will be doing four days 🤞

Unusual evening to myself tonight, with both DH and DD going out. I will be watching Strictly with a baked sweet potato and leftover chilli - perfect , I certainly know how to live 💃

Have a peaceful day all 💕

CoffeeBeansGalore · 03/10/2026 10:48

Morning all.
Sounds like everyone is doing ok so far 😊.
We live in a bungalow. With my mobility issues a standard house is no longer suitable. Unless of course we win the lottery & buy a house big enough to install one of those fancy lifts!.
I now quite like everything on one level. You do get used to it.

First Christmas presents delivered this morning. Also treated us to a new bedding set. It's brushed cotton & a highland cow design. So cute!!
I now need to buy wrapping paper. Dd1 said she saw the decent stuff (double sided) in Costco. I'll ask her to pick some up next time she goes. I'm hoping Dh will take me on a quiet day. I love seeing all the Christmas stuff out.

Ddog decided he wanted out at 6am. So an early start. First load of washing done, delivery sorted, 2nd coffee about to brew & a bright pleasant morning.

Have a lovely Saturday.

FuzzyPuffling · 03/10/2026 11:05

Morning all,
I've just had my flu jab, so we'll see how that goes! Very efficient and pleasant at tge GP surgery.

Covid was a dreadful time for us. Due to DH's blood cancer we were not allowed to leave the house ( not even for daily exercise) for 4 months. We had trouble getting food for a month- hurrah for our Armageddon store of tinned tomatoes and my small veg plot. Our neighbours started off ok, but then turned on us. It really affected our mental health and we moved in 2022. Sorry times.

TodayIsabetterone · 03/10/2026 12:12

Morning all, another quiet one here, just summoning up a bit of energy to walk around the corner to the field with dippy dog where I’ll mostly sit on the bench but I’m trying to do it a few times a week to build up my walking again. DH has just spotted a jay in the garden, very pretty, we’re doing well with our birds this week!

Also looking forward to Strictly later too @Swanhilde

Love a new bedding set @CoffeeBeansGalore It’s the little things that can brighten a day!
DH bought me some new socks with a dog that looks exactly like dippy dog and they made me smile when I put them on this morning!

The gloves sound fab @Oioiqueen these things make a difference! We use the frozen soffrito mix a lot, well I don’t cook often atm but found it so useful for saving energy when I did.

Glad the new cooker is useful @martha79

Covid was a scary time but your experience sounds just awful @FuzzyPuffling I’m sorry you went through that.

Hope everyone has a peaceful Saturday.

bedfrog · 03/10/2026 12:44

Hi everyone. Haven't been around for a while, I've really found the Internet difficult lately. So many bots and hatred so I've been offline mainly reading and doing jigsaw puzzles (outside of work)

@TeaAndStrumpets you might appreciate the book 'Less' by Patrick Grant. He was on the sewing bee. He talks about the loss of british made items but also about his factory that is still hand sewing clothes. It's an interesting read, I read half of it this morning already.

Dh is at his sport this morning then this afternoon I may see if I can persuade him to take me to the woods for a gentle walk. We tried last weekend but wasted the good Saturday weather and got soaked on Sunday!
I've been sending off birthday presents to various nieces and nephews this past week. I've got 2 born in October and one due next month so autumn is birthday season!! But I love making and buying for children, they will probably be quite spoiled by me 😅
Hope everyone is well Flowers

FuzzyPuffling · 03/10/2026 13:25

It's DD1's birthday today. She loves her allotment bowl ( as previously shown on here) Good!
