The long lasting chicken meal and other MN legends [light hearted]

Thisismyfinesthour · 18/08/2026 10:01

Most MN know that a chicken can feed a family of 6 over several meals. What is your record?
Our chicken fed 8 of us when the kids were young for two meals. We sent it to the chip shop after the stove broke down.😀
Other MN legends - washing being darked on because it was left out overnight.
Any that you've heard on MN inthe respect if your heard them said irl you know the speaker is an MNer?

But why clean a toilet with a brush then clean the brush. When you could just clean the toilet with gloves and a big wodge of loo roll and bleach?
People literally think the brush is to wipe away the motion marks. Then they put it back in the holder. It's absolutely vile.

Do you then clean the gloves?

No just use single use ones. But it's rarely below the water line. So usually just tons of loo roll and bleach.
I always make sure I don't leave a mess after each use!

Additionally, any meal must also be carefully listed with one or more of: "healthy", "home made", "from scratch", "fresh" or similar, lest complete strangers instantly judge you as a complete slattern feeding your kids ready-made microwaved roadkill.

e.g: "we had chicken and potatoes with salad" must be >>>>> "we had home made healthy chicken stir fry and new potatoes prepared from scratch, with a MASSIVE salad".

You get official bonus points if you sneak in a comment about "UPFs" in a derogatory tone, and/or pretending you have been avoiding them your entire life, and not just since the term came to wide public awareness a while back.

So true!

The missing ironing board .
And the shagging hedgehogs which weren't because one asked for a finger up the bum .

I havnt read the whole thread but does anyone else remember when we used to swap Christmas presents way back? You added your name if you wanted to join in and were assigned another Mumsnetter to send a present . I think there might have been a £5 or £10 price limit. I did it for a few years and it worked really well, in those days hardly anyone complained they hadn’t received anything in return. Imagine the logistics if it was tried again now!

Auntie Tantrums and the sweet wee toddler who came to stay (and slept in the dog's bed). She'll be a teenager now. I hope she's still as spirited.

You wouldn't catch me dead with a germy toilet brush in my house 🤮

How do you imagine toilet brushes are used?

Or you could squirt a little bleach into the loo, dip the brush in it, scrub whatever you want to with the brush, flush while still holding the brushy bit under the water, then put the rinsed brush back in its little holder that is about half full of bleach. When the brush goes in, the level of bleach rises to coat the brush in bleach. Your toilet brush is probably the cleanest and most disinfected item in the bathroom if you use it like this.

OMG that has reminded me of the exH who took his children camping and fed them roadkill badger.

The horror tale of Savernake Forest. It was really good, actually, it scared me!
Penis beaker.

I remember the Savernake story… terrifying.

magicsoakingmyspine · 20/08/2026 06:35

Yes to Mitmoo - Something about her back garden light shining into a neighbours house too?! She sounded insufferable.

We weren’t allowed to mention her though I think 🤔

They clean it in the dishwasher! It sterilises, after all.

I made that up. But people do put their cat bowls in the dishwasher. Yuk!

But there was actually a thread many years ago in which someone claimed she cleaned her loo brushes in the dishwasher; she was adamant that this was perfectly okay because nothing else went in with them, and the dishwasher sterilises everything. Not everybody disagreed with her either…

I like the one where a friend has her friends young child for the weekend it’s in classics

Yes - I recall maybe having asked for a single older person and getting a family with three kids who listed what everyone wanted including both parents. Never did it again after that. I got a tiny handmade item which was sweet but pointless.

Chickoletta · 20/08/2026 07:36

So many classics, already mentioned, but I remember a comment to a poster who changed her sheets every time she had sex - ‘but it’s your husband’s semen, not wheelie bin juice’. 😆

Abouteffingtime · 20/08/2026 07:56

Has sex lube and a fish slice been mentioned?

This is the one where poster asked about a pushchair, and answered herself some three years later. There’s a cracker of a comment, about 12 in.

I did think there had been one, but then thought I must've been mistaken. Surely no one would... Would they? But thanks for confirming it. Crumbs!
