Have stayed at an adults only hotel before? Do they tend to be full of gumpy people?

Or have you had a positive experience with it

Oh and I didn't speak to any of the other guests so no idea if they were grumpy or not. (We had family staying in other nearby hotels that we socialised with so didn't need to make conversation with strangers)

Haven't stayed in an adults only hotel, but we've been childfree for nine years. I don't think we're grumpy. We happily chat together, have a drink by the bar, will have a joke with someone who clearly wants to engage (but admittedly don't go looking for other company).

Love adults only. Gorgeous hotels too

Coffeecakebakes · 17/08/2026 12:29

I have been to an adults only hotel in Lanzarote which was full of pensioners who really, really liked a drink. No one was grumpy.
I have been to 5 star adults only hotels in Cyprus and there have been a mix of ages but mostly 20s, 30s then 50s and above. Very restful, especially around the pools, and lots of happy guests. Personally, I would avoid all inclusive but it depends on your own preferences.

Have stayed at a Warner's hotel before and I don't recall anyone being particularly grumpy, but I don't suppose that's the sort of hotel you mean. 😂

The Lanzarote one sounds like it would have made for a great holiday! Was there lots of singalongs followed by snoozes, then a nice cup of tea?

I stayed in one once. I found it a bit precious and didn't like the vibe. It was mostly couples on their phones. I tend to like normal hotels that don't provide specifically child friendly activities but allow all ages. That way you get a range of people from different generations and that seems to create the best atmosphere for me.

Octavia64 · 17/08/2026 12:35

Yes, in Marrakesh,

it was mostly boring middle aged people like me.

LemonSnail · 17/08/2026 12:37

I’ve been to three in the last year and have really enjoyed them, I haven’t noticed any grumpiness. The ones I’ve been to tend to have mostly couples under around 30 and over 45/50. I guess a lot of 30 to 45 ish year olds are on holiday with their DC. They have been mostly couples and a few mum’s and daughters and a few families with older DC.
There have been very few big groups which works for me.
I went to one as a solo traveller and two with my DH.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/08/2026 12:37

We’re going to one in Menorca in September. The reviews say it’s that quiet it’s like an old people’s home. I can’t wait, tbh, because that’ll suit me down to the ground.

OneZanyCat · 17/08/2026 12:39

The only hotels have come across grumpiness is where the hotel is mixed and then sometimes the adult only couples find children annoying. Adults only and family hotels fine.

Plus your own kids can be annoying pests at times and after 18 plus years of that adults only is lovely and quiet.

KrazyKatty · 17/08/2026 12:40

What’s a Gumpy person? Is that slang for weirdo?

OrangeFlower14 · 17/08/2026 12:41

Why would they be grumpy? They’re probably more cheerful than any other hotels in my experience.

Friendlygingercat · 17/08/2026 12:48

There was a thread on here yesterday where a family were being pestered by someone's child who kept bothering them at meal times. Poor parenting on the part of the mum meant that the kid (who knew no better) kept coming back and was not being disciplined. That seems to be an excellent reason to seek out an adults only hotel of you don't want to parent other people's kids.

Hayleylulljah · 17/08/2026 12:49

What a strange thought process. Why do you think that?

Oh my word yes! Freedom from being surrounded by kids without parents that respect boundaries. Worth it every time. 👍🏻

FairKoala · 17/08/2026 12:52

Why would people be fat?

OttersOnAPlane · 17/08/2026 12:54

My parents stayed in adult only hotels after they were about 50. They liked pools without splashing children, kids clubs, all the noise and activities of people with young families. They said the food was better than those catering to broad family appeal and were much quieter.

These were mostly in Greece and Italy.

mtobrokeme · 17/08/2026 12:55

Why would they be grumpy when they don’t have to contend with other peoples children, which I’m assuming they’re happy about since they booked an adults only!

Naurrr · 17/08/2026 12:55

Can you explain why you think a childfree hotel would be grumpy?
The bliss of no kid noise would make for more happiness.

Stayed at a Warners hotel in my early 40s and loved it!!! The staff were great and referred to us as the 'young, in love couple' 😂 we lowered the average age by around 20yrs I reckon!

Fiddlesticks1 · 17/08/2026 13:11

Stayed in a few. All ages just want a child free environment. Less grumpiness than stressed out parents.

NancyJoan · 17/08/2026 13:18

Just back from a 14+ in Mallorca. Lots of couples, in 20s or 40s upwards, few groups of female friends. No entertainment, no inflatables in the pool, peaceful breakfast experience.

Sensiblesal · 17/08/2026 13:28

I have stayed at a few AI adults only places.

usually have fun activities and fun round the ‘party’ pool if you like that

no kids running round screaming.

only time I ever see grumpy people is when at dinner/in one of the bars and a couple has clearly been arguing and one is sat miserable as fuck (usually the woman)

BugOnARugDrinkingTeaFromAMug · 17/08/2026 13:31

We do Adult only hotels any time we go away without the kids, it's bliss, no crying toddlers, no splashing kids, no screeching, no you tube blaring.

Not grumpy at all.
