Have stayed at an adults only hotel before? Do they tend to be full of gumpy people?

Or have you had a positive experience with it

I love adults only. Especially ones with entertainment. More relaxed and much quieter, and it can still get competitive on the shuffleboard or darts games. I don’t do this type of holiday often, but it is great for a nice little relax without spending tonnes of money. It also means I could take my son at 16 and 17 during school holidays and the price only really went up for the flights

OneZanyCat · 17/08/2026 12:00

Stayed at a few. Never came across anyone grumpy. People mainly go for somewhere to relax without children running around.

Multiporpoise · 17/08/2026 12:02

There’s different types of adults only tbh. We’ve stayed at adults only party type places that are rowdy and loud and ones which were much quieter predominantly full of retired people some of whom were a bit grumpy but most were the hotel veteran types who knew the names of the staff and wanted to recruit holiday friends.
We’ve stayed at others that were more of a mixture and some where adults means 16+ so plenty of grumpy teenagers stropping about on inflatables.
The best adult only spaces I’ve been to were at family hotels with adult only areas, they tend to be less crowded and with more people getting a morning/afternoon break from the kids rather than looking for a full child free experience.

no kids, no fighting for sunbeds, no ridiculously loud music, no staff trying to persuade you to play games, bliss !!

All the one Ive stayed in are Adult only meaning over 14s only. So potentially sullen teenagers, but no noisy toddlers.

Malasana · 17/08/2026 12:06

We deliberately choose adults only hotels or at least hotels with adult only areas including restaurants and pool areas.

No kids running round screeching or poking their fingers in the food at buffets. Nice and quiet. We aren’t at all grumpy. We’d be more grumpy with kids around!

For what it’s worth I do have a child but grown up so I’ve done my time in ball pools, play parks and pools with inflatables. I need something quieter now.

Irritatedinthisheat · 17/08/2026 12:06

I only stay at adult only hotels. I get very grumpy when I get to a hotel and the pool is full of kids playing. I have raised my kids so now I want kids -free everywhere 😁

anyolddinosaur · 17/08/2026 12:07

Stayed at a few and they vary. Would never stay at a tui one again - full of drunks pissing in the pools. The more upmarket ones can be nice - quieter without children around.

Thecows · 17/08/2026 12:08

Are they easy to find? Greek one sounds lovely!

Gribouille · 17/08/2026 12:08

Have you seen the thread where a family are trying to dump their 4 year-old on some other holidaymakers?

Grumpy?! I'd be incandescent! 🤯

Sherararara · 17/08/2026 12:09

Mostly full of swinger types looking to hook up.

Would love to know where you stayed, sounds perfect.

I go away with my friends once a year - we always stay in Adult Only hotels. They have always been lovely, very laid back and stress free.

Five days away with my friends and no children absolute heaven, no grumpy people at all.

Mrcollinswave · 17/08/2026 12:12

I love this, so random 😂😂 I'd think they'd be honeymoon type couples rather than grumpy ones 🤣

Rubbish! Every adult only hotel? Mostly full of swinger types? That's a lot of swingers!

Well yes, swinging tends not to work well solo.

CheeseWisely · 17/08/2026 12:17

We stayed at lots of adult only hotels before we had DS, never noticed any particular grumpiness.

ETA: No swingers either, at least not that I noticed, but maybe they just didn’t want to swing with us.

Mostly full of swinger types looking to hook up.

Or more likely just people who want a relaxing holiday without screaming children running around.

GrandmasCat · 17/08/2026 12:22

Kalimeras · 17/08/2026 11:38

Why on earth would they be grumpy? There’s no kids there, its peaceful, no screaming around the pool, no kids getting underfoot in the restaurants

This.

Just perfectly relaxed adults or even parents not having to put up with other people’s children’s behaviour when they are having a bit of rest away from their own children.

Decorhate · 17/08/2026 12:23

I'm just back after staying in one. It was a resort that I wouldn't normally have considered but for reasons we were obliged to go there.

The hotel was great, not overly busy and very peaceful. Pool opening hours were restricted which meant you didn't have noise from there early morning or late at night (we were overlooking a pool).

It was mostly couples or families with adult/late teen children. From the reviews they do sometimes get groups staying which can mean it's less quiet then.

CarelessWimper · 17/08/2026 12:23

We stay in adults only hotels. I haven’t noticed any swinging so maybe I’m going to the wrong ones????

They vary greatly but the general vibe is they are quieter and there is no entertainment aimed at children and no other people’s children to look after.

You're thinking of cruises.

Not adult only hotels. They are mainly full of very happy people enjoying not having screaming children running around not being parented.

Mirrorxxx · 17/08/2026 12:25

Surely they are full of happier people

Isobel201 · 17/08/2026 12:25

I stayed at a Warners hotel it was okay and the people were friendly.

menopausalmare · 17/08/2026 12:26

The grumpy ones are the ones with kids. The child- free hotels are usually chilled and peaceful.

mindutopia · 17/08/2026 12:26

I think mostly they would attract couples, either pre-kids or who are having a kid-free weekend. There will be a certain segment though (I can think of a popular chain) that probably attracts more pensioners than young to middle aged couples. If you want to swerve the ones that feel more like care homes, just have a look at the activities and website. You should get a feel for whether they are more romantic spa weekend or golf and cream teas.
