Am I the only person not to have a fan or changed duvet!

Yes it's been hot but I haven't got a fan in the house (or air con). I'm in South Wales so we've had it hot.
I still haven't changed from 9 tog duvets either!
We've managed the heat by ensuring curtains keep the heat out as the sun moved around the house and had a pretty good through breeze.
Yesterday was about the worst day but other than that we've coped.

After dealing with 45 degree heat in France, in a camper van with no air con in 2022 maybe I'm hardened to it!

I've still got two jumpers on every day, and I have my electric blanket on every night - all night long.

West Coast of Scotland.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/08/2026 19:43

Also, I've just put the fire on.
I hate being cold.

No fan. Not changed the duvet, but removed it (tog4) months ago and just have a sheet instead.
South East England - It's 30' here right now at 19:47 hrs.

What is the temp where you are?

Simonjt · 14/08/2026 19:52

My husbands like this, 12 tog duvet no matter the weather, long sleeved pjs with the trousers tucked into his socks. We have aircon in our bedroom, so we have regular aircon wars, luckily he is an extremely deep sleeper so I just turn the temp down once he’s asleep.

Dearg · 14/08/2026 19:55

NE Scotland.

Yes to fan, and no duvet , just a flat sheet. On colder evenings , I have a 4.5 tog.

That said, my heating was triggered overnight last week as the internal house temp fell below 14c. So we have some warm days, bur noth7ng like the South.

It has been absolutely cracking down here. I know for disturbing reasons… but it had made for an incredible summer!!

Move here to Berkshire, even after the windows being open all night the house hasn’t got below 25 since May!

whippersnapper55 · 14/08/2026 20:02

I've got a fan and changed the duvet for a flat sheet! It's been unbearable at night, I'm soooo looking forward to winter!

OrangeFlower14 · 14/08/2026 20:03

It hasn't been hot in South Wales though OP so that would be why

MurielTheTerrible · 14/08/2026 20:04

I'm in London. Still have my duvet (same tog all year round), no fan. Warm but comfortable. Obviously the heat has caused many problems, but I have loved having such a long, hot summer. I'm not looking forward to socks again 😔.

Presumably the West coast of Scotland is a bit cooler than the south east of England?

It's 29 degrees in my house right now, at 8pm.

I'm in Scotland and we all have a 4.5tog duvet and a fan in each of the 3 bedrooms. Ds has taken his duvet out of the cover and is just using the cover for bedding. Last night was very warm by Scotland standards

Are you joking?! 25 degrees still now in my house. Yesterday was mid 30s. OK not as hot as some areas but we've hardly been Scottish temperatures

@squirrelchops2
No fan here as they don’t do anything for me. Have a small aircon in the living room though. Have not been able to use even 2 tog duvet since June and it is the only thing I miss in this weather. Love the weight of a duvet but my room is far too hot.

Temp where I am now

Right... it's 25 degrees here, and the house is retaining heat like mad. I'm lying on my bed in front of a fan trying to summon the energy to put a load of laundry on. It was 40 degrees in my car when I got in it this afternoon. 33 in the shade under the huge oak tree in my garden.

Quite warm.

CoffeeBotherer · 14/08/2026 20:10

We haven't changed our duvet, we just moved it to the spare room (about 2 months ago).

I’m not sure what your point is? You're simultaneously saying that it’s not hot enough to need fans or to change your duvet, but also arguing that it is in fact really hot in your house…
Do whatever you feel comfortable with. It’s currently 32 degrees in my house. We have the fans running and I have removed my duvet completely, I just have a duvet cover. It is more comfortable for me like that, so I have done it.

Yes @squirrelchops2 25 in your house isn't bad at all that's why you're okay without a fan

Jcomingafterall · 14/08/2026 20:21

I am so happy I live in the south east

yonem · 14/08/2026 20:21

I’ve just gone upstairs to open the windows and put the fan on. It’s 31 at the moment and we use fans on the windowsill in the evening to draw in some cool air to bring it down a couple of degrees before we go to bed. Usually makes 2-3 degrees’ difference.

squirrelchops2 · 14/08/2026 20:21

I'm not saying it's not hot. It is hot but we've managed without fans etc, that's my point. Not that it's been cool here. I'm just asking if anyone else is managing OK.
There are numerous wild fires here in case you aren't aware.
