Am I the only person not to have a fan or changed duvet!

Yes it's been hot but I haven't got a fan in the house (or air con). I'm in South Wales so we've had it hot.
I still haven't changed from 9 tog duvets either!
We've managed the heat by ensuring curtains keep the heat out as the sun moved around the house and had a pretty good through breeze.
Yesterday was about the worst day but other than that we've coped.

After dealing with 45 degree heat in France, in a camper van with no air con in 2022 maybe I'm hardened to it!

Fan on all day and night. Duvet cover with no duvet

RandomUsernameHere · 14/08/2026 20:25

I love the heat and wouldn’t have fans if it was up to me, but DH likes having them on. Haven’t used a duvet for a while though, just the cover on its own.

somewhereintheworld · 14/08/2026 20:25

No fan here. I don't like the noise they make or all that reconditioned air they blow out. 33 degrees here today, also in S.Wales.

I'm not saying it's not hot. It is hot but we've managed without fans etc, that's my point. Not that it's been cool here. I'm just asking if anyone else is managing OK.
There are numerous wild fires here in case you aren't aware.

Of course we are all aware of the wildfires

Why haven't you got a fan or a thinner duvet some kind of endurance exercise

Fans don't recondition air they just blow it around

Also, I've just put the fire on.
I hate being cold.

Don’t you have snuggly cats too? 😻

RumNotRun · 14/08/2026 20:29

Also in South Wales, no idea why someone thinks it hasn't been hot here! I have had my ceiling fans on and been keeping curtains closed as my lounge and bedroom both face the sun most of the day.

I find it hard to sleep with just a sheet so used my coverless duvet some nights.

Impatientwino · 14/08/2026 20:30

This is a bit like when you have a baby and go to a baby group and someone says oh yes little Timmy has slept through the night since the day he was born, I have to wake him to feed him and I’m so just loving this precious time it’s so wonderful.
For you, it’s nothing like that, your nipples are hanging off, you’ve not had more than 90 minutes sleep in a row for 6 months and you can’t wait to get back to work for some adult conversation .

Both things are true but not helpful to one another!

SheSpeaks · 14/08/2026 20:31

I only have one duvet and use it all year round and I don’t know what tog it is. Kids have the same. I have a nice linen duvet cover on it at the moment. They have cotton. We don’t have a fan. We don’t have a thermometer so I don’t know how warm or otherwise it is indoors. We sleep with all the windows closed because of noise, insects and hay fever.

We were in the amber weather warning yesterday and the weather app said 36 degrees. I was under my duvet with my shortie PJs on regardless.

I know some people feel the warmth more and I know some houses retain heat better.

We add more blankets on top of the duvets in the winter time and have brushed cotton or thicker duvet covers.

Yes, but they're outside, looking for rodents.
🤣

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/08/2026 20:32

Proof

Am I the only person not to have a fan or changed duvet!
Thecomfortador · 14/08/2026 20:33

We just have the duvet and windows open. I either sleep under the duvet, half in / half out or on top, depending. Essex here and last night was hideous as no breeze, lots of tossing and turning. Hoping it's cooler from here on in.

MyLuckyPeachOtter · 14/08/2026 20:35

Another Scot checking in to say I’ve had the heating on in the last few weeks, no fans, usual duvet on. I’d love an actual summer but I’ve felt for you all down south this year.

Likeiloveyou · 14/08/2026 20:36

No fan here and still using duvet. South coast. Yes it’s lovely and warm but I like it. I’m thin and really feel the cold!!!

I have still been wearing a cardi out and about.

I haven’t managed without fans because I own fans so have no need to manage without them. I’m sure I’d live if we didn’t have them, but we do.

AmandaEatsLemons · 14/08/2026 20:37

I would not be able to survive like this. I need the fan on 24/7!

squirrelchops2 · 14/08/2026 20:41

I forgot about the dog (prompted by the person saying about cats). When the dog decides to push up to you it literally adds 20 degrees 🤣

and had a pretty good through breeze.

That's a natural fan. Try living without the breeze and then brag.

Duvet was kicked off months ago, curtains shut, windows shut, hotter outside than in so no point opening them overnight., no breeze, attic hotter than hades so no point opening the hatch. Add in menopausal hot flushes 😩

WatchingTheStarsFromMyHammock · 14/08/2026 21:12

I am somewhere hot! It was 36c in the shade yesterday. The house doesn't usually get too hot because I close the curtains and open the windows in the evening front and back, so the breeze blows straight through. Even then my house was over 30c last night and I needed the fan on. I believe this was only the third time I needed the fan this year. I prefer not to use it as I prefer silence to sleep.

I use the same duvet all year. The secret is a wool duvet. People think it keeps you warm but it's actually temperature regulating. It works in the motorhome when it's 3c outside and at home when it's in the mid 30s. I always feel the perfect temperature.

Those of you struggling with the heat should get a wool duvet.

This is really helpful to know. I'll definitely look into wool duvets.

We’re in Jersey and our hottest day this year was 39 degrees. We still have a 10 tog duvet on that I sleep under, and usually with a pillow over my head. We were at the beach today in about 26 degrees but with a stiff easterly breeze and I had goosebumps. I blame my thyroid Confused

WatchingTheStarsFromMyHammock · 14/08/2026 22:21

@squirrelchops2 The wool duvet was a game changer for me. You can get wool pillows too.

Kickinthenostalgia · 14/08/2026 22:37

I’ve not changed my duvet, it’s a 10.5 silent night air max one, one of the best duvets I’ve ever had. I do have an ac unit because I’m a naturally hot person in the winter so this heat is overkill. We’ve had one for years as the windows we have, only the 2 small ones open so not a lot of air gets in.

Wherethedogsits · 14/08/2026 22:41

We use 18 tog for most of the year (no heat source) so have changed the duvet but for once our little cold house is the perfect temperature.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 14/08/2026 22:48

No fan here and haven’t changed the duvet, I’ve been wearing long pyjamas to bed most of the summer but did swap to short ones this week. There were a few days in I think June where it was very hot and I did also swap the duvet for a sheet but haven’t needed to do that this week. My house stays fairly cool even when it is hot outside and I think I just don’t really feel the heat as much as most people, think I’ve only worn a T-shirt a handful of times this year. It’s really only been the days it’s gone into mid-30s I’ve felt the heat.
