Anyone else just had the wildfire alert on their phone? It scared me to death. There are no wildfires round here that I know of.

It will obviously sound louder in a confined space indoors than outside.

Even so it really wasn't very loud at all.

hahabahbag · 14/08/2026 19:19

It was fairly loud and my phone was set to silent. Apparently it went off on live tv as people had phones in their pockets.

Chattygirl123 · 14/08/2026 19:20

No but I'm not in England or Wales

KiwiFall · 14/08/2026 19:21

Yes. 4 phones here going off, 2 first and then another 2. Must be dependent on phone networks.

I’ve experienced it before abroad. But that was because there was wildfires close to where we were, scary as you could smell burning in the air.

ladygindiva · 14/08/2026 19:21

Yes and it's raining 🤣

FurForksSake · 14/08/2026 19:08

Yep. And we cancelled the big bbq we had planned for the weekend and the food order.

The pictures of Stourbridge have really stayed with me and having a bbq right now when we’ve had no rain and everything is so dry, we were stupid to consider it in suppose. Doesn’t take much for a fire to happen, we had a small garden one a couple of months ago from our bbq so we are very conscious now.

You can still have a bbq at home, it’s just disposable that are restricted.

Thank you,
I know I'm being ridiculous but I'm a panicker in everyday life and just couldn't leave them there so I've filled bath with cold water and submerged them. I'll bin them tomorrow

You win the most batshit post I've ever read, which is quite impressive

Abra1t · 14/08/2026 19:22

Hope some idiots about to light fires or lanterns or bbqs might reflect.

WhatYouWearing · 14/08/2026 19:22

Guess they’ve timed it for Friday night and weekend parties

NervousSheepy · 14/08/2026 19:24

ladygindiva · 14/08/2026 19:21

Yes and it's raining 🤣

Please send the rain this way and into Wales, it is much needed!

Ir here you go. Queen of Screenshots here.

I also took a screenshot.

What I’m finding very entertaining is that both of us were already on MN when the warning popped up. The screenshots give it away 😂😂 I cropped mine but you can just about see the box I was typing into behind it 🫣😂

lucky you

EspressoWarrior · 14/08/2026 19:26

Made me jump! It’s happened 3 times so far- same devices. My DC is doing a trial shift at a restaurant this evening and I really hope they weren’t setting down someone’s food or drinks when it happened!

NannyOf8Girls · 14/08/2026 19:27

Yes

JustAnotherWhinger · 14/08/2026 19:27

crackofdoom · 14/08/2026 19:06

Yes, and it annoyed me slightly. IMO it's best kept for immediate, serious risk to life (we had one for Storm Goretti), rather than something that would be best disseminated as a PSA. Maybe the government should send these as text messages?

I'll take an emergency alert that bit less seriously next time.

Edited

19 homes were destroyed in Stourbridge last night in a frightening quick time, with multiple people taken to hospital.

There is an immediate serious risk to life with these fires.

79Beastie · 14/08/2026 19:28

Yes. Thank god I had my ear plugs in while reading my book because of 3 adults and a baby making a racket, otherwise It would have frightened me to death

Msbond667 · 14/08/2026 19:28

Yes . Next question is what sort of b£!! E^d has a bbq in this weather.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/08/2026 19:28

Yes

MiGrayn · 14/08/2026 19:28

Plane landed at LHR and everyone switched their phones on. There were so many alerts going off that I thought the plane was on fire.

NetZeroZealot · 14/08/2026 19:29

Perhaps they should have been more selective about the geographic areas they sent it to.
I’m down South though and woke up to a strong smell of smoke this morning so I appreciate the need for it.

sanityisamyth · 14/08/2026 19:29

Yep. Scared the shit out of me … twice. I got a Welsh version (which I can’t understand) then an English version 5 mins later.

hattie43 · 14/08/2026 19:29

well thank you very much chicken banana but I can't help being a worrier and wouldn't it all be nice to be as carefree as you instead of having to come home if I'm out to make sure I turned all the switches off. You can't help the way you are
