I cry most days, I actually find it really therapeutic. I do have bpd so might be that but how normal is this.

Rarely. I don't like crying. Even when ds died I didn't cry much.

chocoluv · 15/08/2026 08:26

I think some people are just cryers.

If you cry when you’re happy, sad, excited etc and cry over beautiful songs or sad parts in films etc - that’s ok.
Some people just express emotions more than others.

However, if you cry from sadness or stress from real life, more than a couple of times a week on a regular basis, then I’d say that’s not ok and I’d think that person may have depression.

I need to know what part of Malcom in the middle made you cry?? 😂😂

The bit where Hal has gone to Francis military school and all the cadets are getting prizes and Francis hasn’t had one and Spengler (I think deliberately) tells Hal how he’s always in trouble as he always back chats him on behalf of the other kids who Francis feels has been wronged and in that moment Hal was proud. I bloody love Hal and I think my crazy family are like the Malcolm family 🥰

Rarely cry. I'm usually very happy and smiley.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 15/08/2026 10:05

I rarely cry, I wish I did more often as it would be a stress release. I feel like I'm quite unemotional, although I feel high empathy. I'm more likely to cry from a sensory overload that a deep emotion or sorrow. For example last time i cried a few weeks ago was in a crowded place in extreme heat and when I finally got clear of the crowd I excused myself to the toilet and sobbed for a moment. Same thing a few years ago in an overcrowded space where I was rushing for something knowing i was late. I've cried with frustration in traffic jams a few times. But not sure if I ever shed a tear for the death of a close family member or for a good friend who is terminally ill.

When I think about babies dying

EndlessSeaViews · 15/08/2026 10:11

I cry every day and often several times a day.

Not helped that I am in perimenopause and have some health issues which are wearing me down. My mum is also in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's so I cry every day for her. I also cry most days on SM, the horribly sad things that happen to others and the injustice in the world makes me cry.

I'd say most of my tears are from the frustrations of living. I don't find life easy.

EndlessSeaViews · 15/08/2026 10:13

Should add that my sister and two of my friends say they just can not cry since being on Sertraline, I'm not sure I'd like that as I enjoy a good cry.

I’ve cried over this awful weather ! It’s been relentless

I've sat on my bed and have wept several times since these heatwaves. They are being frustrating.

What kind of real life stuff things are you crying about? Do you have a supportive loving partner? Do you cry… on holidays for example?

Death, illness, frustration with dealing with the nhs, work, stuff with the kids,

Only when I run out of wine! 🤣

bocketyaulbag · 15/08/2026 10:28

Very very rarely. If someone very close to me dies. That sort of scale. Cannot remember the last time, several years ago anyway

There's quite a lot of ignorance and judgement on this thread!
If a question was asked of 'how often do you laugh' there would less criticism of this emotional show than crying.

I haven't seen any judgement really?

Death, illness, frustration with dealing with the nhs, work, stuff with the kids,

So life sounds hard? Do you have things to look forward to?

LoudPlumDog · 15/08/2026 16:55

Multiple times a day since my 21 year old daughter died suddenly and unexpectedly 21 months ago.

friedaklein · 15/08/2026 16:57

Everybody who has lost a child: of course you cry multiple times a day. Hugs.

This

I am so sorry for you all. That sounds so meaningful but I mean it so truly xx

UrOutdoors · 15/08/2026 17:09

Very rarely. I don’t think I’ve cried for a few years. But I do have chronic long term PTSD and I’m on heroic levels of antidepressants so that probably explains it.

Morepositivemum · 15/08/2026 17:12

Daily when we were having marriage issues now never but a weird never, as in before that I cried at people dying on tv or a sad ad, now I’m desensitised

Pinkissmart · 15/08/2026 17:26

Most days, probably. But I cry when I hear that New Zealand choir singing the Māori song, so 🤷‍♀️

OneWildSloth · 15/08/2026 18:38

@IsThisLifeNow I hope you have support around you, sending an unmumsnetty hug xx

I cry every day! Anything can set me off, usually a sad story on the news like those poor people who’ve lost their homes in the fires, Ann Widdecombes murder etc. My eyes just leak very easily. I got teared up when the emergency alert came through yesterday as it’s such a big scary thing (I live not far from Stourbridge). I also cry regularly when reading if a character is going through an emotional experience. I could blame perimenopause but I think I’ve always been quite emotional.

LizzieW1969 · 15/08/2026 21:34

I tend to cry when I’m triggered by a news item or a book/movie/drama. It’s on account of my MH issues resulting from childhood trauma, mostly. Other times I well up when I’m stressed following a meltdown from my DD1, who has additional needs.

So I do find myself fighting tears quite often, which I hate, as it leaves me really tired.

I do have depression/anxiety as well as PTSD. I recently reduced my medication because the medication I’m on was making me confused, on top of memory problems. I have a GP appointment booked to ask about changing to a different medication.
