I cry most days, I actually find it really therapeutic. I do have bpd so might be that but how normal is this.

I don’t think there is much “might be that” about it. Almost certainly is why.

unless you lead a very upsetting day to day life?

friedaklein · 14/08/2026 19:00

Almost never. The last time I cried was over two years ago, and the time before 3 years before that.
But I did cry today because of the heatwave.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 14/08/2026 19:01

Daily

Jcomingafterall · 14/08/2026 19:01

I can’t recall last time i cried.

DoAWheelie · 14/08/2026 19:02

Most days the last two years since I was widowed. Around once a month before that.

It being normal or not entirely depends on what's going on in your life and how you are coping with it, rather than there being a "correct amount".

So sorry for your loss. I would cry a lot too if DH passed.
I agree with the rest of your post.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 14/08/2026 19:04

Hardly ever. Only really when someone close to me dies. The last time was before Easter when a family dog died.

WatchingTheStarsFromMyHammock · 14/08/2026 19:17

I'm not sure it's so rare. I would imagine it was when my soul dog was dying, which was over a year ago now.

Although it depends on if you count 'welling up'. I might be more inclined to well up at very sad or very happy films. It doesn't happen frequently though.

DontTellMama · 14/08/2026 19:18

Weekly during therapy.

ExtremeDecluttering · 14/08/2026 19:21

Can't remember the last time other than filling up a bit while watching films etc occasionally.

WallaceinAnderland · 14/08/2026 19:21

Hardly ever. Last was a bereavement four years ago. Unless you count empathy tears from people crying on tv?

youalright · 14/08/2026 19:28

Do the people who are crying regularly are you mentally ill or just cry a lot/ like a good cry

Most weeks. However it's more therapeutic than traumatic. I cried last night watching Murder 24/7. It often isn't about me.

DustyMaiden · 14/08/2026 19:30

last August because DD did. I never cry but if someone else does I join in.

At the moment it's several times a day. I'm going through a rough time and used to cry very rarely, I'm thinking about going back to see my Doctor about going back on antidepressants because frankly I'd love to just kill myself and get it all over with, but I have young kids and wouldn't do that to them, plus I wouldn't want my STBEH to think he's that important.

PerdreLeBleu · 14/08/2026 19:31

Never. I had a near nervous breakdown several years ago to several traumatic life events. I actually couldn’t stop crying. It was frightening and exhausting. I had talking therapy and EMDR and now actively avoid anything that will make me sad and make me cry. I think there is part of me that thinks if I start crying again I may never stop so it’s defence mechanism.

Error404FucksNotFound · 14/08/2026 19:32

Rarely. Im not really a cryer.

It must be years since I last cried.

Wizomania · 14/08/2026 19:35

Varies for me - if I'm struggling then daily. In general maybe every week or so. I think it's probably rare that I'd go a month without crying.

I have a long histpry of depression - not severe enough to ever have been hospitalised or seen a psychiatrist or anything. But has been with me since I was a teenager. Also I was a very sensitive child (and still am very sensitive) so probably part of my personality. I don't know. I recently had several months of therapy and I am reasonably optimistic that it has really helped me so am hoping I won't feel the need to cry as much. Though still more than most people I expect.

Darkdiamond · 14/08/2026 19:37

I have a big cry every 6 months or so. Its like a build up that I need to clear out and move on. I cry at the tv any time someone dies or any time a mother screams. I watched Hamnet and cried and cried. I recently cried at 1883 too. I cry if someone is telling me something sad, especially if they cry. I cry when I am overwhelmed, when I'm tired. I cry quite a but actually but I actually think I am a very emotionally healthy person!

I'm just like you.
I feel crying is just the same as laughing or getting angry. It's no biggie, just an expression.
I was made to feel weird as a kid because of it...now I embrace it.

CoffeeBotherer · 14/08/2026 19:42

Almost every day and often more than once. (Lost an adult child a couple of years ago and I'm nowhere near over it).

SkyBeau · 14/08/2026 19:42

I am happy, so i do not cry very often.
