I cry most days, I actually find it really therapeutic. I do have bpd so might be that but how normal is this.

I rarely cry, in fact has been years since I have had a proper cry; prob since my son was given a life-changing diagnosis years ago - nothing has touched me on that level since. However, watching Henry Nowak's father bravely give his statement with his family and talk about his beloved boy, I cried with compassion.

Rocketquine · 14/08/2026 21:58

Hardly ever. Even when terrible things happen. I feel the emotions but the crying response never happens. I get a tightness in my chest, neck and head instead.

You had a negative opinion from the first post of the OP saying they had BPD with no attempt to look beyond this or have any reflective discourse. I personally find human responses and variations of these interesting.

bananamachinewater · 14/08/2026 21:59

I cry allllll the time, probably at least 5 days out of 7…I cry when I’m sad/angry/happy/any other emotion 😂
I don’t have any diagnosed conditions and don’t suspect I have anything, I’m just an emotional person which can be embarrassing but that’s me!
There are lots of things I find unbearably sad! I often avoid reading news articles online as I know I’ll end up really really crying and not in a therapeutic way. I’d ugly cry at a strangers funeral, or if someone I vaguely know’s dog died (even if I’d never met the dog or known of its existence prior to seeing social media post).
I’ve got worse and worse the older I get (currently 36)

A negative opinion? I’ll quote my post so you can reread it

I don’t think there is much “might be that” about it. Almost certainly is why.

unless you lead a very upsetting day to day life?

This is the post you think I am criticising the Op in? And I have a negative opinion of the Op?

Itsme20 · 14/08/2026 22:03

Most days. I had a late miscarriage 3 years ago and always wonder what my little girl would be like, or I cry over my brother who’s been gone 17 years now: or over my sister who’s I was close to she passed about 9 years ago now: my mum passed 2 years ago so I’ve always got something to cry about!

Yes, you seem critical of it being due to BPD then the 'unless you lead an upsetting day to day life'.
People can cry daily for a plethora of other reasons, as has been cited. In fact, can be totally normal and not at all linked to mental health as per my argument.

Heavens. You must go through life seeking shadows

No I wasn’t criticising the Op nor do I have a negative opinion of her.

You bowled in with your comment about the thread criticising the Op. Your example about “mentally ill” is literally what the Op posted herself!

So in future, maybe just pause and read the thread before actually posting a “negative opinion” on a thread.

Just a thought

Well indeed, but the OP suggested it might be linked in her Op!

I never cry and I think it's because I've become numb. Like, so much shit has been thrown at me through my childhood and throughout my adulthood that my trauma response has gone way beyond crying. I'm detached now. You could throw a missile at my head and I'd just stand there silently and take it.
If you're crying daily, at least you're still feeling something. Not numb, like me.

Edited

I completely agree with you when I was put on my first ever antidepressant it made me numb, no emotions whatsoever, I hated it only lasted a couple of months before changing it as you're right feeling nothing is definitely worse.

Mentally ill? What 😂 I cried pretty much every few days for the past 20 years. A mixture of hormones and just being sensitive person. I cry when I see a dog with their puppies or a spider eating a fly. You don’t have to be mentally ill or depressed or even sad to cry. I can cry because there is beautiful tree outside and my coffee tastes so good

Well thats the point of the thread thats the question I'm asking is this my bpd or is this in the realms of "normal"

The last time I full on ugly cried was when my mum passed away 2 years ago. I still well up now when I think of her and all the things she’s missing, watching her grandchildren grow up and important things that have happened in our lives since she’s been gone.
She was still relatively young and I think about her every single day.

OotontheRandan · 14/08/2026 22:18

I nearly cried this evening - a song from my MIL's cremation came up randomly in my playlist which took me by surprise.

Fiftyandnotsonifty · 14/08/2026 22:20

Mentally ill and often

Jcomingafterall · 14/08/2026 20:52

Do you live alone?

So you cry daily but no one is aware of you crying. And you’re not crying over anything in RL, just SM and thoughts.

i would say that yes… that is a little unusual!

No i live with my 3 kids and my partner. I cry for allsorts of reasons. Real life and stuff I think about and see.

It catches you of guard doesn't it. There is a specific song I can't listen to as they played it at my late partners funeral and I avoid it at all costs but easier said then done

Very rarely. I sometimes wish I could cry for the release, just doesn’t come for me.

What kind of real life stuff things are you crying about? Do you have a supportive loving partner? Do you cry… on holidays for example?

2017SoFarSoGood · 15/08/2026 06:17

Several times a week I well up and tears spill over. I sob cry when I have to talk or think actively about losing my adult daughter. I cry a little bit at sad things on tv but no longer when reading , which is a big change from my old life.
