Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

To be fair, I'm not built for the heat. I feel lethargic and headachey in temps over 20 degrees so this summer has nearly killed me.

On the other hand, my neighbour regularly tells me how much she loves it, so much so that she "feels as if she has been plugged into the mains and has so much energy she doesn't know what to do with herself!".

I can barely function or remember the last time I had a decent night's sleep. Work in a hospital, our office has no air-conditioning, it feels like a furnace! I'm snappy and easily irritated, just flopping on the sofa as soon as I get home. Social life has been non-existent since early June.

Autumn cannot come soon enough although I will miss the light mornings / nights.

This 👆 there is plenty of time for a few more heatwaves. I’m totally done with it. I usually hate winter and love Spring and Summer, but I’m actually looking forward to being cold.

Prepared to be shot down here but I’m loving it. Yes it’s hot but we’re quick to moan when it’s the normal dismal English summer of rain and cloud!! It’s been lovely being able to plan things and enjoy the outdoors.
I do agree with the wildfire worry and the affect the drought is having on farming etc. If this weather is to continue each year then steps need to be made to deal with such things. I conclude that if this year is just a one off I will be sorely disappointed.

Gosh that alert gave me a fright but it's a good thing, my phone didn't work in the last practice so am glad it works now.

I was just getting to something approaching a comfortable doze when the alert went off!! Feeling a bit put out!

Well at the least my new phone is receiving them. The last phone I had never received any of them

Whilst I think it's great that there's a temporary ban on disposable barbeques sold in stores, they're still available to buy on Amazon. So that's a useless 'ban'.

Remember that the law doesn’t apply to Amazon, EBay, Aliexpress, Temu etc. if they are caught selling stuff that is illegal in the UK (zombie knives, prescription drugs, over-powered e-bikes, knuckle dusters, punch knives), they just have to say ‘oh sorry we won’t do it again, pinky-promise’ and then carry on right on selling them.

Whereas someone selling them in a shop on the high street would be arrested.

I agree with her. In summer it is top +skirt or dress on, suncream if spending time outside, skip if going to work, slip on sandals/ shoes, bottle of water, into the car, the sunglasses live there, drive off.
In winter - remember to slather on body lotion as skin gets itchy from all the layers, base layer on, wrestle the tights which always get twisted, skirt +jumper on, put on the boots and fasten them, coat on, make sure to take gloves, bottle of water because still need to drink. Into the car to find out that I had forgotten to put the cover on and the windscreen is frozen. Back to the house to get some water to defrost it, spend ages to make sure it is warm enough but not too hot in case the windscreen breaks. Back to the car all hot and bothered due to the layers I am wearing. The car is now defrosted but still cannot see anything due to the condensation. Frantically wipe it off and finally I am on my way.
