Am i the only one with a 10 year old with a sudden obsession with michael jackson?
I dont even know where this came from, we dont listen to him, so ive no idea how it even come about 😆 but she loves him! All the time shes requesting Alexa to play it or asking me to put it on!

There’s no innocent, legitimate reason for an adult wanting to share a bed with kids (all so happening to be boys within a very specific age range). There just isn’t.
In terms of physical evidence, police found pornography and poppers in the room Michael Jackson admitted to having “sleepovers” where he shared a bed with young boys.
Anyone who thinks his actions were the result of him being “naive” or that the fact he wasn’t convicted suggests he may have been innocent is wilfully ignorant.

scoobysnaxx · 14/08/2026 00:20

Yes absolutely delusionally obsessed again since seeing the movie.
even my 2 year old requests him and sings along! 🎤

I was also abused but I’m not convinced MJ was an abuser. I think he was an easy target and foolish. I have read loads of books and the court transcripts over the years.

Have you watched the documentaries where two of the boys (now adults) talk about their experience?
That is what I was specifically referring too.

He’s a thing on Roblox - I assumed that’s where most kids ‘discovered’ him.

wombpaloumpba · 14/08/2026 06:30

My 5 and 7 year old love the music. They told me they heard in the playground that he went to jail for hanging a baby 😬 I have said it’s true he wasn’t a good person sadly but his music is excellent

He was never convicted in a court of law. It does not matter what else people may think. He was never proven guilty of those alleged crimes.

Nor was Jimmy Saville.

Hopefulsalmon · 14/08/2026 06:39

I never really liked his music and since the allegations (which I believe) absolutely can't listen to him now. I'm really surprised in a day and age where people get cancelled over v minor things, he's having a revival.

saltyseaswimmer · 14/08/2026 06:55

I really don’t understand the way people seem to be able to separate the music from the person in their heads - I explained to my child, in an age appropriate way, why we don’t listen to his music at home and switch over when it comes on the radio in the car.

Meredusoleil · 14/08/2026 07:00

My 14 yo is the same.

It's almost like a posthumous second coming of the King of Pop 😳

I was also abused and I agree with you.

Makes me feel sick that children are talking about him, listening to him, watching him.
A serial child abuser.
As someone who was abused myself I know the truth when I hear it and he was absolutely and utterly guilty.

This, honestly it’s as clear as day and yet cos he’s got some good songs it’s like everyone looks the other way

TallSturdyGirls · 14/08/2026 06:33

Nor was Jimmy Saville.

Did he go to trial, have evidence presented and be found innocent? Oh no he was dead

Natsku · 14/08/2026 07:13

My 8 year old loves him and is constantly moonwalking about the place and singing his songs. He's setting up a "band" with his friends to play Michael Jackson covers (none of them can play an instrument...)

Oddly his big sister also went through a Michael Jackson phase years ago which is much more inexplicable because there wasn't lots of media attention then.

AutumnLover1990 · 13/08/2026 22:01

He resonates with small children and babies especially. He has that gift. I keep seeing children hysterical in videos on insta etc, absolutely sobbing that he is dead 😔 No one else has this effect.

Well he certainly had a "gift" , just not quite one that his new generation of fans think. Surprised if they dont already know, a couple of clicks on't tinternet would tell them

oliil4l · 14/08/2026 08:17

Haha, definitely not just yours! 😂 I think there’s something about Michael Jackson that really grabs kids once they discover him. My friend's daughter went through exactly the same phase around that age — suddenly it was Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller on repeat, despite nobody in the house ever playing him before. I actually think it’s quite sweet when they randomly discover older music themselves. At least it’s something a bit more interesting than whatever TikTok song they could be obsessed with! 😆

Lentilcakes · 14/08/2026 08:20

Never liked him as a kid, and now I think he’s abhorrent. I do like some of his songs but would never willingly play them now.
He was a very strange man at best (Blanket hung out the window) at best and an abuser at worst.

AmericaPleaseThanks · 14/08/2026 09:17

I've been obsessed with him since 1991 and will be for life

CatLandOffTheA3 · 14/08/2026 09:25

CheeseWisely · 13/08/2026 22:38

Oh well that’s ok then. Jimmy Saville was never convicted in a court of law either, let’s show the kids Jim’ll Fix It.

Exactly. @emuloc He PAID. He paid vast sums to shut people up in order to avoid the 'court of law'. That does not equal innocence.

Hear, hear.

As the investigative journalist and expert on Jackson’s case, Diane Dimond, recently stated, ‘he was one of the most prolific, in your face paedophiles the United States has ever known’.

If my children were still little, I wouldn’t encourage them to listen his music or become fans of him. He is not someone whose music I would actively put in front of children or encourage them to idolise. I’d be steering them away from this particular pervert.

Even though we all KNOW he was.

The movie coming out
And his music is great tbf and he was an amazing entertainer
My 11 year old loves him

For what it’s worth I am not convinced he was a child abuser, I used to believe it but the more I look into it the less convinced I am

The trouble with cancel culture is that there are some bodies of work of historic or cultural importance which can't just be erased from the collective memory as simply as that.

Some might say that the work of MJ falls into that category.

This is the view I take. His music was important to me, I believe in separating the art from the artist and always have. Otherwise if we dug deep enough very little would survive. If we were to cancel based on our moral code now, we are no better than those 100s of years ago that destroyed 'pagan' art in the name of God, or burning books etc. I don't have to morally agree with the life style and choices of every author, musician, inventor or artist.

I don't remember Michael Jackson being connected to the Free Willy film 🤷

Will you be there was the theme tune.
