DD5 loves his music, DS7 isn’t hugely interested in music in general but will still bop along to a MJ song, especially Thriller.

Trying to show them that music wasn’t always terrible so we’ve been playing a lot of Michael Jackson songs.

It's the reasonably new MJ film. My DGC are obsessed with him. The eldest is 10 so have no memory of him at all. They all think he's brilliant

To be fair, his music is great 👍

AutumnLover1990 · 13/08/2026 22:01

He resonates with small children and babies especially. He has that gift. I keep seeing children hysterical in videos on insta etc, absolutely sobbing that he is dead 😔 No one else has this effect.

There was a recent film about him.
The younger generation know about him because of that.
They don't know about the allegations.

Banoffeepie29 · 13/08/2026 22:04

My 5 and 7 year old know who he is and thats not from us! I also wondered why they kept mentioning him. I suppose he was the most famous person in the world.

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 13/08/2026 22:08

Makes me feel sick that children are talking about him, listening to him, watching him.
A serial child abuser.
As someone who was abused myself I know the truth when I hear it and he was absolutely and utterly guilty.

tinkerbellla · 13/08/2026 22:10

Yes! My daughter is 10 and loves him, always playing his songs on my Spotify. It must be a school thing as it didn’t come from us!

He was never convicted in a court of law. It does not matter what else people may think. He was never proven guilty of those alleged crimes.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/08/2026 22:12

I had this. She still likes listening to it but not him lol

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/08/2026 22:14

I work in a school and it has surprised me too. They know all the words and the dances. I thought it was really odd.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 13/08/2026 22:16

Since the recent movie release his old stuff has been streaming a lot. If your DC use Spotify it will be showing up in top lists.

Personally I'm loving it, I was a big fan at 11/12 and am connecting with my DC through it now

TaraRhu · 13/08/2026 22:31

Yep, mine are obsessed. I just can't get past him. Guilty or not he was a very odd man who's fascination with kids was very unhealthy.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 13/08/2026 22:33

Make sure they see his music videos too.

His dancing was INSANE!

Oh well that’s ok then. Jimmy Saville was never convicted in a court of law either, let’s show the kids Jim’ll Fix It.

hotmumshit · 13/08/2026 22:39

Its the new films

I think hes vile and ahouldnt be celebrated

nopenotplaying · 13/08/2026 22:41

My kids love his music too. My 18 year old has taught the younger ones to moonwalk 🤣

suki1964 · 13/08/2026 22:44

My step daughter will be 40 this year, and I remember her first finding MJ back in the 90's and was gobsmacked to find he was a black man

Off the Wall soon became a favourite , one of my first album buys

Oh give over 🙄

The trouble with cancel culture is that there are some bodies of work of historic or cultural importance which can't just be erased from the collective memory as simply as that.

Some might say that the work of MJ falls into that category.

I was also abused but I’m not convinced MJ was an abuser. I think he was an easy target and foolish. I have read loads of books and the court transcripts over the years.

landmarkyear · 13/08/2026 23:06

I really don’t like Michael Jackson as a person. Vile.
But his songs (well, they were mostly written for him) are superbly good pop songs. Quincy Jones was a genius.
Young people love them (inc both my DCs), on musical merit alone

Well said. I find pps comment quite strange. CSA is clearly challenging to prosecute and a large percentage of abuse is unreported, understandably. To suggest that people should never consider that someone is an abuser where conviction has been unsuccessful, is naive at best.

The Free Willy Movie is currently on Sky and other streaming services. Apparently they are making a new one. Probably has something to do with it.

Places are starting to play Michael's music again following on from the success of the film.

He made great music 🎶

I don't remember Michael Jackson being connected to the Free Willy film 🤷
