Neighbour in flats asked me not to place my wheelie bin nearby

Am I being uǹˆreasonable? I live in a flat. A young person has recently moved opposite and I do not like her. We each have our own. Wheelie bin and apparently I place my bin too close to hers so she has asked me not.\nTo put it so close and then she said, it's not her job to move it.So she can get her bin in and out to take it out for the bin. If that was me, I would just move the oven bin along, so I could get my bin in and out, I think she's being totally out of order.

I dislike her because she need picks about every little thing and I had a boss like her once and in the end , I quit the job

Oh fucking hell, you can't be serious!

I dont like her because she reported me about the bin. I just think she throws her weight around and acts like she's lived here for years when, in fact she hasn't even been here a year.. in all the years I've lived here and it's over 20 years. Nobody has reported me. In fact, when we had recycle boxes here and a previous tenant is to fill the recycle boxes with her young toddler's nappy and other things. And foxes would come and tear the boxes open and all the rubbishes to be over the front garden i used to be the one to clear it all up, but I never reported her because I knew it records problems between her and me. And a situation with a bin is nothing compared to finding baby's nappies all over the garden that should put out for the rubbish in the recycle boxes. I think that's absolutely disgusting.

Well the lesson is you should have reported the old neighbour. That has nothing to do with the current neighbour. Length of tenure also doesn’t give you any superiority over her. All tenants are equal whether they’ve been there a day or a century.

I am curious. Do you rent or own?

In regards to reporting you regarding the bin. Did she talk to you first and ask you to put it elsewhere first and you didn't?

You seem very fixated on the past and how things were done.

In a previous thread she said she rents - I think it was a house conversion into 3 flats? There was a post to do with the communal door being replaced and she was being weird about providing info about her electricity meter that was asked for so it wasn’t hooked up to the wrong supply (needed to go to the communal meter).

landofstories · 13/08/2026 15:05

@PerkyOchrePeer from what PPs have said about you not being able to rub along nicely with anyone, I sense the only mistake your new neighbour has made is interacting with you at all.

Your former neighbours learnt just to move your bin and stay the hell out of your way.

Of course she reported you. She asked you politely to move your bin and you continued to be uncooperative and cantankerous, and refused to do what she asked.

She's not throwing her weight around, she is being entirely reasonable. You, on the other hand, are not.

It's very odd that in all the years that I've lived in my current flats, and the number of people there have been living in that flat opposite me over the years, not one single person has ever said to me? I'm doing anything wrong, but as soon as she moves in. She starts.

Ever wondered why so many people move in and then move out of the flat opposite you?

They don't leave due to me.. I actually live in a housing association flat , so the rent is extremely cheap. The flash opposite me was sold off by the housing association and somebody bought it. The person who bought it was a property developer and only bought it to rent out privately, so it was rented out on a private basis. Somebody privately rented it, rent went up. They couldn't afford it, so they left. Send somebody else privately rented it, but then they left. Have no idea why. Then the property developer , who had originally bought that flat , put it on the market. It was on the market for a year until the person who now lives there bought it. When it was still a housing association property, various tenants rented its one lady owed money and did a moonlight flip. Then somebody else came to rent it, who was into drugs and they got evicted, and that's when the housing association put it up for sale.

Easy, they were tenants, they probably did not want to rock the boat. She I assume has paid good money to buy her apartment and she is quite right to want things right. You sound sad and battered. You need to cop on and stop being so stupid. She can keep reporting you. You are an tenant. You can be evicted
She owns she cannot be.

Awkwardisfunny · 13/08/2026 20:39

PerkyOchrePeer · 12/08/2026 22:12

Before she moved into the flat other people live there, and nobody ever complained if I were, to put my wheelie bin too close to theirs, they would just move it along.. i don't like this girl and I wish she'd never moved here

So you made everyone move your bin all the time? Why? Just put yours further away so people don't have to do that. Stop being that one douche neighbour.

Awkwardisfunny · 13/08/2026 20:45

Urgh "she acts like she's lived here years" that's all I need to know about you OP. There is zero relevance to how long you have lived at your address. You don't get special privileges for having never moved, travelled or ventured out of one plot of land on the planet.

Stop creating your imaginary hierarchy and behave like a reasonable neighbour. The amount of times neighbours have acted like they have special rights just because they lived in their house longer. And why are these imaginary rights always something that inconveniences others?? It's never: I have lived here 30 years so I get to babysit for my neighbours whenever they ask. I get to wash everyone's cars when they're dirty.

No, it's: 'I get to ignore other people's needs'. But new people can never catch up, can they?? They can't ever beat you at the game of 'how long have you lived here'. How would you like having to move someone's bin every time you went to put yours out?? Absolute rage bait this.

saraclara · 13/08/2026 21:47

Who did the new neighbour report you to?

Wonkybaby · 13/08/2026 22:25

I find your posts very unclear. I suspect this reflects your very muddled thinking.
Sort your bin out, keep it out of the way and mind your own business. Getting your knickers in a twist about bins and windows and shopping is ridiculous.

Her flat went for 200k as it is a tiny studio flat. 2 bed flat where i live are 400k. I guess when her flat had made a profit she will sell it for a 1 bed. Yes I can be evicted but tenants can also report other tenants.

To be honest I would just move the bin its the same as when the free leaflets it puts through the door they get left. Lying all over the entrance, and nobody bothers to pick them up or throw them away. So I do it, and I could easily save the people. Why is it always me that picks up these free leaflets? But I'll just do it and it only takes a minute\n And then and then the floor is clear again.

It's thoughtful of you to pick up the leaflts, OP. Try to be thoughtful with the bins.

SheilaFentiman · 13/08/2026 23:59

How do you know it’s always you who picks up the leaflets? By definition, if others did it when you weren’t looking, you wouldn’t know it had been done.

Because when they come if i dont pick them up immediately they get left and will stay for a week. Its like with keeping the communal carpet clean. We dont have a cleaner and I asked for one. We cannot hoover it ourselves. There is no communal plug. Ive asked if this can be sorted and they can provide a cleaner but they said, if there is no communal plug, where is the cooler going to plug in a Hoover?. Tenant underground floor used to plug her Hoover in through her flat and Hoover the ground floor but then she said it should be all of us doing it, and I said, where the hell do you think I'm going to plug in a Hoover?\n And then she said, don't you have a stiff broom? You can sweep the carpet. Who does she bloody well seen Kim? This is not the 18th century, we use hoovers, no body sweeps a carpet.

Im actually glad I dont own a property because it's very costly. I recently had a new boiler as mine broke. The new boiler was probably 4k which I didn't pay for. Ive also had a leaking roof which was repaired free. I had double glazing fitted free. If i owned my flat I would have to pay for these myself and the money I have saved by having these done for nothing cab be used for a holiday i knew someone who had to buy a new boiler and couldn't afford to go on holiday a friend of mine has just had to pay 7k to repair her home and I said to her, that's because she's left it for so long, and it's got to a crisis situation, so she's got so much to repair and she said, no homes do need to be repaired regardless. She\n Also owns a flat with her husband and this house was from when she was single, but I said I wouldn't spend that amount of money repairing a house that you're not living in, I would just put it on the market, and she said, but the house needs repairing. Who is going to buy it unless it's been repaired. So I said\n Somebody might someone who likes having a hobby of doing our houses.\n But she still said no, but I would sell it at a loss and just get rid of it.

You plug in to the extension cord that is plugged into your flats electric.
Honestly who did you expect to pay for the cleaner that you want? Because it would be you and all the flat residents left picking up the bill along with the cost of fitting a socket and the cost of the electricity including that used by random person off the street.
Now you maybe happy paying for all of that but were all of your neighbours? I ask because thr housing association couldn't do what you wanted without the agreement of every resident and homeowner.

Look i get it you think that your the queen bee and everyone else should just fall in with what you want. Newsflash your not the boss and dont get to make decisions for everyone else.

If you want to keep your flat you need to wind your neck in, you should never have been using anyone else's bins and you have no right to block other people's access to or ability to move their bins.
The simple fact is your neighbour isn't willing to be bosses around by the local bully (that would be you) and will report you for every single infarction and any further attempts to bully her or other neighbours and you will get evicted which will undoubtedly make everyone's lives so much better.
So want to keep your flat of 20+ years then back off and stay in your own lane.

Well your an idiot then.
If you were a home owner you would know that its already a buyers market and the amount of money your so called friend would have lost along with the rental income will be more than you make in a year or 5.
Home ownership is an investment for your future.
Whereas you will be renting for the rest of your life and all those improvements made to your flat will be the cheapest out their wont last the way that more expensive repairs would and you pay for them all as part of your rent oh and the roof leak would have been covered by insurance if you were a home owner.

SheilaFentiman · 14/08/2026 07:26

If you want to hoover the hall, OP, rechargeable hoovers exist (Dyson, Shark etc). You could buy one with the money you saved not paying for a boiler?

Who is the owner of the building - how are communal repairs like painting the front door sorted out? Do you pay a management charge of some kind?
