Neighbour in flats asked me not to place my wheelie bin nearby

Am I being un̈reasonable? I live in a flat. A young person has recently moved opposite and I do not like her. We each have our own. Wheelie bin and apparently I place my bin too close to hers so she has asked me not.\nTo put it so close and then she said, it's not her job to move it.So she can get her bin in and out to take it out for the bin. If that was me, I would just move the oven bin along, so I could get my bin in and out, I think she's being totally out of order.

Her age is completely irrelevant.

If you’re blocking her access with your bin then of course you should move it. It’s not up to her to move your bin.

PerkyOchrePeer · 12/08/2026 22:12

Before she moved into the flat other people live there, and nobody ever complained if I were, to put my wheelie bin too close to theirs, they would just move it along.. i don't like this girl and I wish she'd never moved here

100 people could tell you that you are wrong, but I doubt you would agree - you've made it clear you don't like this person so anything they do or say I'm sure you'll disagree with!

TrunkElliot · 12/08/2026 22:17

Life’s too short …

It's very odd that in all the years that I've lived in my current flats, and the number of people there have been living in that flat opposite me over the years, not one single person has ever said to me? I'm doing anything wrong, but as soon as she moves in. She starts.

Is there anything you can't start a drama over OP? Just leave her enough space to move her bin.

Life is way too short for this shit. Just don't annoy your neighbour by encroaching on her wheelie bin space. Simples 🤷‍♂️

Girl?

Well, she's dad, a girl that was wrong.\nBut she is at least thirty years younger than me

Honestly if you’re ’at least 30 years older’ than her, I think you should be the grown up here. Just move your bin.

Are you taking the piss OP? You dislike her because why? She asked you to be a tiny bit considerate. Just because the previous neighbours didn’t raise it, maybe they thought it, and regardless it doesn’t matter!

EmeraldRoulette · 12/08/2026 23:38

@PerkyOchrePeer it’s you
hi

Just leave a bit more room by the bin. And maybe she finds it difficult to move.

Angelyogini · 13/08/2026 05:19

The facts no one has complained before doesn't make placing your bins near her or worse blocking her access right.

I know that if the situation has been laissez passer for years you might feel you are entitled to place your bins anywhere, but she is also entitled to have a free pathway.

OP be considerate and move your bins to tour side of the property.

rwalker · 13/08/2026 05:23

how are you blocking her bin

Kathy286 · 13/08/2026 05:27

We need a diagram!

ShetlandishMum · 13/08/2026 05:31

Move your bin. Carry on.

Morepositivemum · 13/08/2026 05:36

When I put my own bins too close together it’s hard to move them out sometimes and annoying when full. Maybe the other people didn’t complain but it doesn’t mean it wasn’t an issue? Make peace with your neighbour, nobody should hate anyone enough to wish they didn’t live there

KittyHigham · 13/08/2026 06:01

If its possible to position your bin so your neighbour has clear access to her bin, why wouldn't you do that?
I don't understand.

AmnesiacsDream · 13/08/2026 06:10

What has she done to you to make you hate her?

QuirkyHorse · 13/08/2026 06:15

Bins, by the nature of their use are grubby. Nobody wants to handle bins more than they have to an especially not other people's bins.

I'm not sure the relevance of you being so much older than her and having lived there for years has. It doesn't make you queen bee who is the boss of everyone else.

Just do the right thing and let her move her bin out without yours being in the way.

And why do you hate her out of interest?
Do you actually know her to hate her?

We always had 3 bins one for each flat but the previous neighbours didn't care. Nobody kept to their own binand it was a free for all. O the day that the bin men came, i used to take all 3 bins out because otherwise they wouldn't get done and I did it every week and eventually I stopped because I thought if they see me doing it every week they will get lazy and why should it only ever be me doing it? Because I thought that I do it when we take 3 bins out then somebody else does it the next week? And so on, we all take turns to take the 3 bins out.
Now we have the current neighbours, they have the attitude, one flat perbin, each flat takes her own bin out and because I done it the other way for so long. I just thought that's how it would carry on with each help each other out with the bins, you see 3 bins who take 3 bins out you take 3 bins back and then next week, the next person does it and so on. So we will help each other out, but these neighbours now don't want to do it like that.
