Which widely available supermarket teabags make the best cup of tea like you get in a nice tea shop?

We buy Lidl gold blend, I cannot taste the difference between that or Yorkshire tea we have at work or PG Tips previously tested. The English Breakfast teabag I had in a hotel abroad was divine but they were wholesale only, I checked. Just wondering if it is possible to get a quality, aromatic tea in bags in supermarket and what is recommended?

Yorkshire (Gold if feeling flush)

Clipper is the best tea. Everyone who has tea at my house asks what the tea is because it's so nice.

MajesticWhine · 11/08/2026 22:43

Clipper.
I also have no issue with Yorkshire gold.

EnergySauce · 11/08/2026 22:46

oh, wow, thank you

Yorkshire was our favourite but we stumbled on Dorset a couple of years ago and that's now our main. Unfortunately it's more expensive so we order it in 1100s(!) to reduce the cost.

Brew tea in yellow box. Bit pricey but a good brew. Limited availability mind.

FaceIt · 11/08/2026 23:06

PG - yes I know, but I don’t think you can beat them.

Partridgewell · 11/08/2026 23:13

M&S Gold - they're the ones they use in the cafés and they're bloody lovely.

BendyDickCumbInMySnatch · 11/08/2026 23:15

Clipper here as well. On Amazon you can buy in bulk as well

QueenOfTheWasps · 11/08/2026 23:17

Punjana and Birchall’s for us. Birchall’s for preference.

Twinings English Breakfast

AutoImmune2 · 11/08/2026 23:36

I buy Morrisons Red Label because all the brands got so expensive.

Makes a lovely brew!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/08/2026 23:38

Yorkshire Classic Black
Twinings Earl Grey
Dilmah Premium

And when I'm feeling posh I go here and select loose tea for a personal blend.

Clipper is really nice but my favourite is Whittards of Chelsea (afternoon tea) - you can order online if you don't have one of their shops near you.

Clipper in the red box
Sainsbury's red label - cheaper

Norfolkbumpkin · 11/08/2026 23:47

Clipper for us. Organic or English Breakfast, they both make a top-notch cuppa 👌🏻

Gowlett · 11/08/2026 23:48

Barry’s Tea if you’re in Ireland, or can get it.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/08/2026 23:50

Clipper in the green box - I used to say Yorkshire but actually prefer clipper once we tried them
