Which widely available supermarket teabags make the best cup of tea like you get in a nice tea shop?

We buy Lidl gold blend, I cannot taste the difference between that or Yorkshire tea we have at work or PG Tips previously tested. The English Breakfast teabag I had in a hotel abroad was divine but they were wholesale only, I checked. Just wondering if it is possible to get a quality, aromatic tea in bags in supermarket and what is recommended?

Clipper or Thompsons Punjabi, although I’ve not seen the latter for a while.

Clipper Organic stock up on when it’s on offer. It’s the only tea that I’ve ever liked so much that asked I asked what it was.

Typhoo 80 Premium Tea Bags

We buy lidl too, it's nice! If I'm treating myself (or if it's on special offer!) I buy Thompsons Irish Breakfast or Signature blend - both lush!

personally i prefer Pg tips, yorkshire, typhoo, tetley, its a mix usually depends on prices and offers or if i forget at the main supermarkets,

overall to me i think the taste is more the length of how long you leave the bag in the cup and the milk you use rather than taste either that or its be not having the nose for a good cuppa

My auntie Sheilagh would only drink Sainsbury’s red label. I very occasionally buy a box and they are fine.

beyond that ‘Yorkshire gold’ for just a bog standard cuppa.

Change to leaf tea! Get a cup infuser and a tea scoop measurer and you'll never look back.
My favourite supermarket leaf teas in order are Sainsbury's taste the difference, Sainsbury's red label, twinnings English breakfast, Yorkshire leaf tea.

I've recently moved from Barrys to Sainsburys Red Label. Much cheaper & makes a decenr brew.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 12/08/2026 03:05

Yello24 · 12/08/2026 06:55

Massive tea drinker here. Clipper is great but best all round if you like a strong black tea is M&S extra strong in the blue box.
Apart from that. To get tea like afternoon tea in a good place use a warmed pot and let it steep a few minutes.
