Which widely available supermarket teabags make the best cup of tea like you get in a nice tea shop?

We buy Lidl gold blend, I cannot taste the difference between that or Yorkshire tea we have at work or PG Tips previously tested. The English Breakfast teabag I had in a hotel abroad was divine but they were wholesale only, I checked. Just wondering if it is possible to get a quality, aromatic tea in bags in supermarket and what is recommended?

Miles, we buy it online from their little factory on Exmoor(cheaper than supermarkets, although also available in them). Loose is even nicer than teabags, it's what a lot of teashops use

I can honestly say that my preferred teabag is Lidl earl grey lemon.

Has to be Clipper. 100%

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 12/08/2026 07:23

M&S Gold are my favourite

Elisheva · 12/08/2026 07:25

You’re all wrong. Cornish Smuggler’s Brew are the best tea bags around.

TroysMammy · 12/08/2026 07:27

I buy Sainsburys extra strong (brown box) for day to day tea.

Wonderknicks · 12/08/2026 07:32

M&S Gold used to be the best but they changed them (weaker). Then I used to get Waitrose Gold or Aldi Gold. They seem to have changed the Aldi one now (plus crap quality bags that tear) so now it's Waitrose. Or Clipper organic.

Clipper here as well. On Amazon you can buy in bulk as well

Was going to say this. MUCH cheaper in the big boxes from Amaxon

FatLarrysBanned · 12/08/2026 07:39

Twinings English breakfast

AitkenDrum1970 · 12/08/2026 08:46

You want loose leaf tea if you want a really good cup!

EmptyInTheValley · 12/08/2026 08:46

Sainsbury's Red Label for regular tea.
Yorkshire for decaf. I find all other decaf teas insipid.

fundamentallyauthentic · 12/08/2026 08:50

Twinings Extra Strong, but the best I’ve found is Birchall Great Rift, which isn’t widely available.

Cannesdo · 12/08/2026 08:53

Thompson’s Punjana tea.
