My boy died on Wednesday. He was 18. Is anyone around? I can’t sleep.

He was autistic and troubled, he lived in supported accommodation. They found him on Wednesday morning, sitting on his bedroom floor. No one knows exactly when he died or how. He was alive at 01:13. He was dead at 10:30.
He had 3 younger siblings - all young teens living at home with me. I have to stay strong for them and I don’t know how I’m going to do it.

He was very ill when he was born and I stayed in hospital for 7 weeks with him.

I used to do baby salsa with him and he loved it. He used to kick his legs like mad.

He learned to ride a bike at 4 and would stand up on the saddle while it was going like a mad man.

He used to look after his baby sister when he was 7 and I was putting the other 2 to bed - he’d play games with her and make sure she didn’t roll off the bed.

He was a very talented artist - he had been going to design a tattoo for me.

He loved cooking, he used to send me photos of the food he had made. He had started a job at a bakery and was so happy about it.

He was so tall - all his young teenager hood he desperately wanted to get past 6ft, and he did, aged 16. He was about 6’3” and towered over me.

I really believed he was going to make something brilliant of his life.

Your son sounds like an absolute joy and was making his way in the world.

Once you can get to his home, you may find that he'd started drawing ideas for your tattoo. A talented tattoo artist might be able to work with the drafts/starts and come up with something really special.

I'm so sorry. My heart goes out to you x

I am so very sorry for the loss of your son OP.
I see that Winston’s Wish has already been suggested as a point of contact for help with your children, but can I suggest the Charity Grief Encounter. I came across them quite by chance when I began following a young man on instagram several years ago who was posting photos of his trek around the coast of the UK to raise funds for them. Established over 20 years ago their aim is to give every child and young person access to the best possible support following the death of someone close, and he wished that he (and his family) had been aware of them when his father had died unexpectedly.
Your mind must be in an absolute whirl at the moment and it’s easy for me to say but please don’t forget to look after yourself too.

I am so very sorry OP. You have posted a lovely tribute to your son and given us all a sense of who he was. You're in my prayers.

I have no words of wisdom, I just wanted to say mother to mother..I see you. I am so sorry you have lost your son, and in such tragic circumstances. Please look after yourself as you try and get your family through this awful time.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of your clever, beautiful, funny boy.
He will always be with you, be part of you.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
Amen.

This is so devastating, I’m so so sorry. My eldest son is autistic and I love him so so much. I cannot imagine your pain x

Epoisses · Yesterday 12:02

I am so sorrh to.read this. I know what you are going through as I lost ds 2 years ago. He was 25.
It is truly awful.
We had massive delays getting his body released and getting the inquest completed.
Sending you love and strength xx

I’m just a stranger, but please know I’m so terribly sorry for you and all who loved him. I hope you have people you can lean on as you learn to navigate through this devastation.
The bereavement site here helped me immensely when I was trying to make sense of my brothers passing.
Sending much strength and peace ❤️❤️

I am so very sorry for your loss. Your tribute to your son is lovely to read. No words can really bring much comfort just now, but know that the women of mumsnet are thinking of you.

This may be a bit premature, but I wonder if @KnottyAndPistey may be able to consider some woolly support. I would like to contribute if that’s something that is wanted ❤️

I think there will have to be a coroners report because no one knows why he died. So his body will be in a freezer for weeks and weeks.

I'm so sorry OP. One step in front of the other for the minute.

When my bairn died I was able to go and see her at the hospital where she was kept before the coroner took her to find out cause of death. That happened on the 6th day after death. You can go and see him. You'll need to ring for a time and day so they can get him ready.

The coroner's office are very good and they'll be able to help you in every practical way you'll need.

Take all the support offered. Flowers

Oh lovely, I’m so so sorry. There are no words. My 21 year old daughter dropped dead 21 months ago. Everyday is hard. All I know is please be kind to yourself. Eat little and often if that’s all you can manage. I survived the first weeks on scrambled eggs and hot chocolate. Try to have a bath or shower each day. The water is therapeutic. PM me if you want to chat. You aren’t alone.

I had the same. Three weeks. 16 months for a Coroners report.

BCBird · Yesterday 13:04

I am sending you my warmest wishes OP. Take any available support. I know you have to be strong for the others, but you have your own feelings to deal with. Hand hold

Hi OP I haven’t read the whole thread, but I lost my daughter last year (to suicide). There was an inquest 6 months later but we were still able to hold the funeral, they usually release them to the funeral home quite quickly if the cause of death seems clear. You can absolutely visit him in the mortuary. I’m so sorry. The world will be dimmed for you forever.

@gamerchick I’m so sorry for your loss. 💔

I managed to get through to the public mortuary and he is already there, not in the hospital. PM will be next Thursday. I am waiting to hear whether I can visit him in the meantime.
