I don't want to let gas man in

I don't want to let the gas man in. I have already cancelled twice. Every year I get warning letters.. I don't want to let anyone in. I don't want have any form of interaction. I don't want anyone physically in my house. I don't even know when they are coming. I just know its an afternoon appointment.

I had every intention of letting the gas man in yesterday. Because I was saying that i felt scared and talking about it did not mean I wasn't gong to let them in. Yes in the past i have had warning letters. Because I try and avoid it as long as I can. Although I know eventually I have to let them in. But logic isn't always there. I have never ended up without a gas check. As I said I had every intention of letting them in yesterday and that is before warning letters. So i was trying. Then they never turned up. I also agreed that I would contact the gas people this morning. Until this thread i didn't know i could ask for shorter time slots and/or a phone call when they are heading to me. I didn't know that i could get some form of support/adjustments through the council. I have taken all that on board.

I have already said i have made an appointment to see my GP. I wrote down everything I could think of. I have hidden theses things for a long time. I'm scared of being judged, people not understanding. I'm worried I will close down. But I still intend on trying.

I can't fix everything all at once. I can't magic things to happen quickly.. i do want things to change which is why I have said it all out loud. And I have made an appointment with my GP. Which hopefully means i can get help to make changes.

Yes i will contact gas people
Yes i will ask for a smaller slot/call
Yes i will contact the council. So things can be put in place.
Yes i will see my GP..

What are you getting out of bullying OP with these nasty posts? She's already said she's seeking help ffs.

Good thinking and plan op.
Really crap noone showed up and you've waited all that time.

With my housing association I can ring main hotline and there's an option for gas servicing.
They need to be spoken to, tell them no-one came despite you waiting all the time.

Then could you say please can you organise a slot as I don't want to miss it, (fib that such a long appointment time slot is difficult and that you sometimes have to go out)

Reiterate noone came and it would help everyone to get this done.
Sometimes they can go through to the contractor while you wait to book an actual time.

Indeed, just cruel. Well done you.

If you blow up your own home, it's your own fault.

When you rent, it's the landlord's responsibility to make sure that the gas installation at their property isn't going to blow up your home, or your neighbours'.

If you blow up your own home it wont affect your neighbours??????????????????

PrettyLittleRose · Yesterday 13:37

That's odd that they just didn't turn up today. That is very poor form. People can lose their tenancies if the safety check isn't done. I hope you are complaining to your landlord @Whyohwhy99 Is it social housing? Or is it a private landlord?

You can't have a shorter timeslot, and anyone telling you this is misinforming you. It will take as long as it takes, but the fewer gas appliances you have the less time it will take ... I have a gas oven, hob, fire, and boiler, and they are usually here for 40-45 minutes. If you have less appliances it will take less time of course.

As has been said, just leave the gas engineer there doing the safety check, (when it's been re-arranged, and they DO turn up!) and pop outside into the garden, or into your living room away from them... You don't have to sit there talking to them. It may even be a woman, my last gas safety engineer was. Maybe offer them a cold drink in this balmy weather and then leave them to it.

Glad to hear you're getting help. xx

We’ve had gas people not turn up, usually because there has been an emergency elsewhere which has taken priority. However, they usually inform you to rearrange

Have you notified your HA of a change in number since you moved in? That's usually why they can't get in touch, somebody changes their number but doesn't update it with both the contractor and the HA.

I just don't I use an air fryer.

Do you never eat any vegetables then?

LeavingAtLast · Yesterday 14:19

Op, have you considered as well as the GP, engaging with charities such as Banardos? They could be a great support to you and your children.

And your issue is?

Whyohwhy99 · Yesterday 14:21

Gas website said it has a live chat. It doesn't its just a bot.. so i had to ring them . They said them not coming won't come back on me. But i wanted it in writing so I had proof. They have said that before but still sent warning letters. If I get warnings because of myself that's different to getting warnings due to them not turning up.

I didn't feel able to ask them about a smaller time slot or maybe a call /message when they are on way. Because it took a while to explain the 14th wasn't the original date. It was the 4th which I had confirmation off. And he thought i was getting dates mixed up. Time i untangled that i didn't feel I could say any more.

My HA has DHs date of birth down as mine. We moved in in 1994 This happened in 2016 when they moved to the SAP computer system. I phoned up trying to correct THEIR mistake and each time i was given a diff number to phone by each person who answered and sent all round the houses so i left it.

Get a ring doorbell

MarilynMerlot · Yesterday 14:24

Op you say in a previous post that you also don’t report repairs for the same reason.

Do you try and repair things yourself? How safe is your house?

The council have my phone number and email address. The gas people definitely have my phone number they send confirmation texts to it.

No but it will stop them saying that they attended when they didnt because you will have proof that they didnt especially if they send a letter saying you denied access

There's not really any issues apart from a kitchen cupboard door came off which I can do myself.
