BIL using our bedroom for intimate purposes

We arrived home from holiday last night. BIL has kindly been cat-sitting for us, popping in twice a day, but not sleeping here overnight. This is important.

This afternoon, I've been sorting out a few things in our room. The sun was shining in, and as it hit the mirror I could clearly see strange marks - handprints, quite high up, and what I think is a willy mark at hip height. They are quite noticeable, so I'm sure they weren't here before we went away.

I suspect BIL has been entertaining himself in our bedroom, either alone or with a partner. He's single and the thought of him bringing a hook-up into our bedroom makes me feel ill.

I've changed the sheets (just in case his activities culminated in our bed), but I don't know if I can bear the thought of him cat-sitting for us again if he does this. But DH will think it's strange if we don't have him back, and DCat has never been to a cattery.

Is there a way I can subtley dissuade him from using our home in this way, without offending him?

I've added photos, but they aren't very good because my phone doesn't seem to focus on the mirror surface.

Did he trip and fall naked against the mirror 😬😬

Accidentally landing on the toilet brush handle that he’d just soaped to clean it

That's a very good point...if he was having some solo fun, there would only be one hand print on the mirror.

Unless he uses both hands interchangeably, so the propping-up hand doesn't get tired?

Or unless he did in fact have company, which is a horrifying prospect.

That is horrifying. I'm the same with my brother. I forbid him company. Who knows where it will lead.

BeardOToots · 03/08/2026 22:45

All the comments saying ‘that’s a towel’ are brilliant. What do you think a mirror actually does?

Is your bed still made in exactly the way you left it?

If so, I doubt he has been shagging in your room. He would use his own home for shagging, surely. Not yours, where he has to avoid the bed and can only have sex against the rickety mirror.

Pet sitters are expensive. And you have no proof this actually happened apart from some weird smears on your mirror. I would leave it.

(Though it's odd you can't discuss this with DH. How is your relationship generally?).

We got home yesterday, but I only noticed that there was something amiss today, so we'd already emptied suitcases onto the bed and slept in it!

But no, I didn't notice any unfamiliar smells or find discarded condoms or other incontrovertible evidence, thankfully.

Omg we need a update. This is hilarious!!

I can ask DH to press his willy up against a mirror and see if it matches the impression? He’d be up for it I’m sure if I read him this thread.

Thank you, that's a very thoughtful offer!

Well that's both brothers in an awkward position then ....

Everyone knows that when you come back from holiday you sleep on the floor until you can forensically examine the bed. What kind of slack attitude is that?

No, too high up

Maybe it swelled up once stuck.

Bit like climbing a tree, easier to get up than down.

pimplebum · 03/08/2026 20:02

has your husband asked his brother yet ?

No, I haven't even mentioned it to DH! I have cleaned the mirror and am going to try not to think about it.

But I am going to insist that we install a kitty cam on the stairs before our next holiday, and I will let BIL know (but not say why). I hope that will put an end to his cavorting!

Do you have any sort of cctv on the outside of your house?

No, none at all.

What else could it be? It's at the height of my hips

I think they are saying it could be someone else's willy...

I suggest a lock on the bedroom door and / or a Ring doorbell so you can see who is coming (no pun intended!) and going and how long they were there for!

Feel a bit sorry for your bil, just came to watch a cat, left with a reputation for being a sexual deviant with a mirror/cat/bloke/something about Prince William?

Unless he has form for other penisy mishaps?

WhatTheMirrorSaw · 03/08/2026 22:59

cloudtreecarpet · 03/08/2026 20:04

But you don't know he did it yet!

It sounds so bizarre - I'm still intrigued to know why you think this of your BIL rather than any rational explanation.
Because he's single?

Yes, I suppose because he's single, and relatively young (DH's younger brother). And somehow when I saw the outstretched hands high up and the mark that looked like a willy, I just instinctively thought that they had been made in a moment of intense excitement.

Why can’t you discuss this with your DH? I would!

Because the culprit is probably his dear brother! It's a very delicate situation.

I’m just here because if I saw any marks on my windows or mirrors it’s usually my cats and I cannot imagine why anyone would press their willy up against a mirror.

how on earth do you know it’s a willy print Op?

(unfortunately there are no men in my house otherwise I’d be asking them to do this)

Well, I did have to use my imagination because I haven't come across this situation before, but the hand prints were very clear and the other mark was at willy height and seemed the right shape and size.

I’ve not read responses but I think you need a black light.

That is a good idea!

Let’s not jump to any conclusions until we get the willy print report back from Forensics.

🤮🤮

why on earth did you think anyone would want to see photos? 🙄

If you are an adult, use your words and speak to him.

Sorry, I didnt want to put anyone off their supper! But if I hadn't posted the photos, I'm sure people would be asking for them, or at least a diagram. A picture paints a thousand words!

And dust everything for prints (whatever that means).

LilacGrass · 03/08/2026 20:26

Could it have been moved so it was lying down on the floor? 🫣

Could you test it and see if your dry hand leaves a similar mark? If so then there’s probably an innocent explanation, and it’s not his willy it’s something else

Not really. It's a sliding door in front of our wardrobe. It would be really difficult to get it out, and I'm not sure our bedroom has enough floor space to lie it down.

Can you not just lock your bedroom in future when you go away? I often do this if someone is in my house babysitting etc. as it is my private space and makes me feel better

We don't have a lock on our bedroom door at the moment, but I think it would be a good idea to get one fitted.

“Cutthroat Defense: A legal term for a trial where co-defendants accuse each other as the actual perpetrator while claiming individual innocence.”

Could this be relevant, or does a cat’s willy leave a different print?
