(Maybe it's just mine)
assesses the parasols at the Beach
"I suppose they'd take all these out in winter, wonder where they put them"

later
"wonder what the staff to guest ratio is at this hotel "

later still
"think the sprinklers come on at 7.30 am alternate days"

Do you never wonder about random stuff ?

Al the time. Today, for example, both the magical powers and everlasting quality of a tub of Sudocrem.
(DC was born in the late 1980s.)

My dh often thinks about insurance costs and challenges "ooh they're right on the edge of the cliff here, I wonder if subsidence is an issue, maybe there's special insurers for that because it wouldnt take much erosion and their business is gone". Meanwhile I am enjoying a drink and the views...

Joopy · 03/08/2026 15:38

Could you ask he where he thinks the councils keep all the Christmas decorations for the towns/cities and all the rides for Winter wonderland? I often wonder this.

Also do towns)cities swap decorations? Or is there a rota? Or do they rent them?

I have been married twice. Once to an achingly cool man. And once to a hot nerd.

Hot nerd all the way.

Megsdaughter · 03/08/2026 15:52

@iCod we are going on holiday to celebrate 25 years married 😃

Happy Anniversay.

Skyflier · 03/08/2026 16:02

“It’s a hot one today”. No kidding honey as we are in Spain in August!!!

PerdreLeBleu · 03/08/2026 17:08

Just reminded me about when we were children we used to drive from the North of England to family in a European country every other year. It would take us two days and we’d stop off overnight. My Dad had this little book where every time we stopped for petrol he’d write down the mileage, how much petrol and how much it cost. He could never really explain to us why other than ‘he just wanted to know’. Fifty years later he still has all those little note books basically with columns of number and still can’t explain why he wanted the information because it didn’t seem to inform anything and he never actually did anything with the information.

Now that’s what I call nerdy!

.. .what ? .... "where people die"?

I just came on to say the same about my late DF. I loved the fact that he was so curious about the world right til the end. ❤️

Isn't it amazing? My family is/was very curious and I grew up seeing this kind of reasoning as normal. One of the most valuable things they left me.

Dreamingofdisneypt2 · 03/08/2026 20:21

Not sure it’s just a man things we are just back from holiday and although I didn’t say them out loud I was wondering lots in my mind.

wonder how many bottles of water are used by all these guests every day? (All Inc and there was fridges dotted around with bottles to help yourself to)

wonder how many glasses/cups they have at the hotel?

all things I really don’t need to know but I thought about them non the less 😂

Pistachiocake · 03/08/2026 20:41

Doodledoggle · 03/08/2026 08:34

@iCod I would say all of those things and I'm a woman. Does that make me a nerd!? My DH might say yes!

Nerd and geek are now both considered compliments and definitely apply to girls, my daughter says-it means you are smart, focus on studying, and keen on tech.
Thought the ratio of sunbeds to guests was what everyone asked on holiday.

MagpiePi · 03/08/2026 22:01

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 03/08/2026 10:33

I 100% do that. It saves that "oh shit, where's the car?" moment

I find the location on what3words and take a screenshot.

mondaytosunday · 03/08/2026 22:22

Those aren’t nerdy. It’s curiosity!

DonaldWheresMaTweezers · 03/08/2026 22:28

There's a particular car park we use in our home town that rarely has a space. My husband will compare the size of every single car park he sees, whether we park in it or not, to this one. I jokingly call it his 'universal car park audit.'

I'm a geek myself so our marriage is a case of the lid fitting the pot!

TheBirdintheCave · 03/08/2026 22:46

Nerdy things my husband said on holiday:

’There’s a Warhammer shop five minutes from here. Can we detour to take a photo outside?’

’Ooh they’ve announced a new DnD and Star Wars crossover!’

😆😆

TheBirdintheCave · 03/08/2026 22:49

TheCurious0range · 03/08/2026 12:05

No these are random musings, nerdy is I wonder if there is a niche dungeons and dragons/table top gaming scene on this greek island, there is and I've looked up an independent shop i'd like to go into and talk to nerdy greek men about our mutual hobbies and then buy some limited edition gaming dice. Ask me how I know 😂

Hahaha. Yes, exactly!

Have you been on holiday with my husband? 😁

iCod · 04/08/2026 01:17

Lol. It's the risky car park. There isn't a death shed. Sorry

OP posts:
echt · 04/08/2026 02:40

I wonder if this is a version of stating the bleeding obvious when in a car, e.g. Ooh, Craster! Or The chip shop’s open. My late lovely MIL did this all the time, possibly because she was rarely in a car so was seeing a different view of her world. It used to drive my late and also lovely DH nuts.

CrocsNotDocs · 04/08/2026 02:57

The airport queue demographic choice is quite simple.

Good Queue Demographics-

Business travellers
Young men, singly or in groups
Groups of women middle aged and above
Parents at the end of their tethers with young children
Japanese travellers of any age and sex

Bad Queue Demographics-

Older couples
Parents who are still happy and relaxed with young children
Young couples in love
People with obviously too much carry on

All other demographics could go either way. Yes, I acknowledge all the “isms” in my post.
