I love a dream.

I dreamed a dream in time gone by

when hope was high and life worth living 🎵

43% turnout in Clacton. Too low for my liking. It was 58.7% in 2024.

It's pretty good for a by-election, though.

Which clown was it?

Badvocthebad · Yesterday 23:22

So over 15% lower than the GE?
Can't decide if I think that's positive for CB or not...

Which clown was it?

Someone called Jaymey McIvor.
He calls Farage a proper politician, then goes on a rant about the political class (is there even such a thing in the UK).

He doesn't seem to like his boss if he believes what he said if he even understood the words coming out of his mouth. He's another ex Tory though to join the list.

I think he managed to spout every bingo card hit while he was on there.

Cheguevarahamster · Today 04:09

Farage showing contempt for the people of Clacon stating he will not attend count because he won't be "demeaned and humiliated." "A credible threat," Reform says. "A safe and secure election" is taking place, the Returning Officer says.
Absolute coward.

Absolute coward.

And so predictable. We all knew he was going to do something like this.

TemperanceWest · Today 05:50

What a pathetic little man he is. Credible threat? He has been happily swanning around Clacton but suddenly there is danger? What about his £5m security budget?

InMySpareTime · Today 05:52

Not going to Clacton is definitely starting as he means to go on. He’s still maintaining that electing him back into post is sticking two fingers up to the establishment. What establishment?

Cheguevarahamster · Today 06:02

Declaration in progress. He may be some time.

Cheguevarahamster · Today 06:03

Binface 9k votes. Not too shabby.

Cheguevarahamster · Today 06:04

Farage wins. 22k compared to 21k at last election.

Cheguevarahamster · Today 06:08

No applause fir Nigel. Ha. He's won but he's lost.

TemperanceWest · Today 06:10

His supporters really are loyal aren't they? We are not allowed to call them stupid. Farage will now go on about sticking two fingers up for the rest of time.

itsgettingweird · Today 06:18

At least now we find out more about his grubby financial affairs.

Saucery · Today 06:35

Leave Clacton to it now. With a low turn out like that then there can be no complaints about Reform not representing everyone. Voting apathy means you’re happy for Farage to keep taking the piss, so crack on. Shame for those who care, but what else can people do but use their vote?

Efacsen · Today 06:44

Coward and a liar

Tbf to the people of Clacton, the apathy doesn't surprise me. I can imagine that if you're a local resident who doesn't support Reform and is worried about your town, the joke may not have landed as well as it had for those of us not directly effected.
The difference between making a fool of Farage and laughing at Clacton with a bin for a candidate, abandoned by other credible parties is nuanced. I can well see why people who didn't see the funny side chose not to traipse out in a heat wave to add to the joke.
I think you've got Farage supporters, those who get it and voted BF, and a whole bunch of "whats the point, they're as bad as each other" people.
Hopefully when they get the next by election Labour can convince those people that they're not "all the same'. Because apathy is a democratic choice and a message just as much as a protest vote.

Essex Police deny advising NF against attending the result, telling the BBC "we have a proportionate and robust policing operation to ensure the safety and security of all participants in the count"

He was worried that a photo standing alongside Binface & Monster Raving Looney party etc would diminish him.

Which is pretty funny.

What a waste of money for local government.

Now off we go with the Standards Committee investigation.

Saucery · Today 06:53

You’re probably right and I am feeling particularly jaded this morning. The man blatantly lied about police advice, still taking the piss out of the constituency, there were plenty of other candidates if you thought Binface was too much of a comedy vote…..so, enjoy Reform a while longer is all I can say this morning.
I feel much the same about where I live btw, so I’m not posting from some ivory Labour/Lib Dem tower.

placemats · Today 07:04

Claim by Farage that the police advised him to stay away from the count due to security issues appear to be untrue

From the BBC:
Essex Police has not advised any candidate that they should not attend the Clacton by-election count, the BBC understands.

Essex Police say in a statement: "We have a proportionate and robust policing operation to ensure the safety and security of all participants in the count."

The force did not provide details of any conversations with Nigel Farage related to the Clacton declaration.
