Amazed on the back of Tice's egregious behaviour, that more isn't being discussed about this. Even Newsnight is ignoring it.

We're off Oop Norf today so also hoping for an air conditioned train!

Good luck.

He’d be an idiot to risk such a massive majority. No election will deliver a bigger one.
Trouble is I fear he is an idiot, at least where his ego is concerned.
Edit: just read the article. His radical agenda? What’s that then? So far it’s the same agenda as before with better PR. It definitely doesn’t need its own mandate!

Saucery · 12/08/2026 11:09

Injury ice packs are amazing in this heat!
Depending on how far up north you are coming @Biwi, it is arse achingly hot still here, but due to drop by 10 degrees on Friday (Lancs). We are travelling further up to the North East coast at weekend and the forecast is a blissful 17-20 degrees. With drizzle ♥️♥️ 🌧️. Can’t WAIT.

PickAChew · 12/08/2026 11:16

We're forecast 30, this afternoon, but so far, the north Sea has done its bamboozling the forecasters thing and we have a lovely light layer of cloud keeping it fresh.

cardibach · 12/08/2026 12:24

It feels cooler here than the weather apps say. Still warm though. And sunny.

BIWI · 12/08/2026 13:06

I do think an early election would be mad - but on the other hand, it would be an opportunity to produce a new manifesto. Only advantage I can see.

I think have apparently discounted one, it would be unfortunate to U-turn. It couldn't be characterised as anything else ...

unless ...

... it's clear there are some competent people in the Labour comms team right now. Obviously a terrible mistake, and I am sure it will be fixed as soon as possible. But before that can happen, and while it seems Labour are able to at least partially seize the narrative then there is the possibility for a "use your enemies strength against them" manoeuvre. This would be to take up the apocalyptic end of days existential threat Reform/Restore schtick, and use it to say "That's why we've changed out minds".

No, I can't see it either. But it's not a pipedream.

DuncinToffee · 12/08/2026 18:01

We are in the Ardennes at the moment and the water levels are too low for kayaking. We went cycling today along the Meuse river instead and ended with a knee high dip in the river Lesse.

Now looking for somewhere to watch the eclipse.

placemats · 12/08/2026 18:14

It's already started here. That sounds like a great day Duncin

PickAChew · 12/08/2026 18:22

It's supposed to have started here but I can't tell because of the thick cloud to the west of us 🙄

😂

PickAChew · 12/08/2026 19:24

It added to the dinginess, at least.

Saucery · 12/08/2026 19:27

DH took some good photos from our garden, although he did have to stand on a small wooden chair at one point as it moved behind some trees. Special filter on his camera and everything. It was quite eerie, dog a bit discombobulated Grin

placemats · 12/08/2026 19:47

Well two dusks in the space of an hour isn't bad.

Clear skies here and it was a damp squib of an eclipse to be frank.

DuncinToffee · 12/08/2026 20:47

The glasses were sold out everywhere but a piece of card with a whole did the trick. Plenty of people happy to share their glasses as well

We went to the park and shared our glasses with the people next to us. There was a really nice communal spirit. It was strange to think Mr B’s grandchildren will be pensioners by the next time it happens.

The cats were very confused. We used the colander method, worked pretty well.

BestIsWest · 12/08/2026 22:31

I went out with a colander snd a sheet of paper but realised the rose bush behind me was doing a pretty good job.
