Most (not all) end up disappearing up their own fundaments and debate by meme.

There are - vanishingly few - people who will provide a cogent reason for their views within reality that aligns with their stated priorities. Now there is no law that says they have to. However, by the same token there is no law that I have to pay much attention to them. Which is what a door closed in a Reform canvassers face should indicate.

It would be tempting to paraphrase Abraham Lincoln to suggest that God must love stupid people. which is why he made so many of them. However in this day and age that could be interpreted as too intellectual.

There are posters on MN pushing the notion that there is widespread civil unrest in the UK right now. Very suspicious imho.

I had a colleague that I considered a good friend and confidante. We kept in touch when she retired and met often. However I really found it hard to deal with her Brexity opinions especially as she held dual nationality with another EU country and was happy for my DC not to have those opportunities. I’m sorry to say I let the friendship drift but I do miss her.

Well if even he is forced to admit that crossings are down (maybe he's trying out a new "telling the truth" persona for court ?) then it does raise the question "what is the point of a party whose only aim is to achieve that ?"

The main problem is that it shows you don't need a bunch of gammon fantasies about murder on the high seas to accomplish it.

I’m not sure what my late DF would have made of Burnham, he was extremely involved in trade unionism & hated thatcher with a passion & the Queen Mother ( reason why we’re never explained) a committed socialist he immigrated from Ireland in the mid fifties life wasn’t easy discrimination was very much part of his everyday life I do know he would be horrified at the likes of Lowe/Farage & accompanied low life’s being given airtime

I always wonder where Scargill would be on the political spectrum these days. The journey of Lee Anderson is instructive. I suspect (no offence to them) that some of these ex miners might be quite Reform inclined in reality - should they be able to time travel.

I am a huge Ken Loach fan and two people I know (one is DS2)have breezily told me today that they know people who socialise with him (one is his NDN!). How have they not shared this with me before!?

We have some ex-miners in the family who have always been hard work and definitely reform-y - haven't been in contact with them since the farage riots in 2024 because of their awful racist take on it all

And yet miners were among the first to support the Grunwick strikers

Interesting question Piggy I’d like to think he wouldn’t have given Farage the time of day or Anderson.

So did mine, despite hating the rest of them. He always said Princess Anne was "a grafter".

He was passionately anti EU so they'd have had common ground there.

I have parted ways with one of my closest friends of forty years, she kept sending me reform & Tommy ten names vile utterances went on the Robinson march last year, I tried reasoning with her sent alternative information etc etc she has never been interested in politics in all the years I’ve known her, she is mixed race parents were immigrants her children have various heritage a grandchild has severe disabilities I cannot for the life of me understand what has happened to her I miss her dreadfully but I cannot reconcile myself with her views.

@dontcallmelen that’s what is so strange, the two I muted had family circumstances having married foreign nationals and one with a disabled family member and seem to have no awareness that Reform/Restore are not friends to families like theirs. These are not unintelligent people, it’s completely inexplicable to me.

It’s just all so odd, my friend was no one’s fool, she had some really unfortunate things happen in her life & if wasn’t for the welfare state & social housing lord alone knows what would have befallen her & the family I’m baffled by her complete change of personality.

All those people not paying their TV licenses.

Some of the county Durham WMCs, largely frequented by ex-miners, though their numbers are now dwindling, and their families, are covered in reform posters and stickers.

They seem to have taken the sexist, racist old bugger portion of that particular strand of the labour vote. I could imagine my late FIL voting reform

The Durham Miners' Gala was stoutly anti Reform and pro pride. It's all very complex I suppose.

My dad never forgave Farage for Brexit. Like a lot of people who remember the war, he saw the EU as symbolic of peace. And while he could be fiesty and shouty about 'rich parasites', he was decent and kind and there's no way he'd be in board with the dehumanising of vulnerable people that underpins the Reform immigration rhetoric. He'd have been concerned about numbers and about communities changing, but I'm sure he'd have blamed "That idiot Johnson" for that.
