Sorry I missed this earlier, thank you so much! And I know exactly what you mean about dreading the month of August.

I’m off out now. 🙂

Have fun!

I saw the 1999 at just over 93%.

You won't be missing much.

Saw that too. Drove to Wales with daughters in the car to Pils. It was a great day. Brought a picnic as well. My niece went to Cornwall.

My favourite bit of the response was asking he Clarkson was going to thank everyone who used Amazon because it streams his farm show that he got to avoid Inheritance tax 🤣

pointythings · 03/08/2026 19:01

Happy birthday, @LizzieW1969 .

I add my voice to those saying Clarkson can fuck off. Apart from being an utter twat, he also doesn't know what PIP is.

DS and I were discussing this today.

can’t decide whether to watch on the beach or up on Portsdown Hill.

Portsdown hill should give an amazing view. Dh and I always used to go up there on New Year to watch the fireworks.
The ice cream van might even be there.

Llttledrummergirl · 03/08/2026 19:37

Also happy birthday @LizzieW1969 I hope you enjoying a lovely calm and relaxed evening with good food and great company.

I'm reminded of it every time Farage speaks.

Noooo! I do not want the work of the genius that is Johnny Marr reminding me of Farage. Bad enough I have to blank out Morrisey.

Nah ….. has to be something from Micks burger van 😋

You'd think DS2 would be more chilled about summer holidays now he's finished education but, no, the school coaches aren't running and if there are no school coaches, he can't watch the school coaches. September. Coaches in September.

He's going to be utterly bamboozled if a different company get the contract.

Couldn’t agree more. I can’t see how DD1, and other young people like her, could ever manage without the help from PIP.

Thank you so much. My DH and I have just come back from a lovely birthday meal. A very good friend looked after DD1 for us.

Marr is a genius alright. Morrissey wrote the lyrics.

Oscillating Widely is pure artistry.

All from the brilliant Louder Than Bombs album.

I'm vegetarian, I always preferred the jacket potatoes van near the funfair (no idea if it was still there).

The builders tea from the burger van was always welcome though. Grin

Thank you for the trip down memory lane.

If I'm going to be Smiths serenading Farage I'm going with
"There's always someone somewhere with a big nose who knows, who'll trip you up and laugh when you fall..."

One of the greats!
I'm also liking
And if a double decker bus has its fares reduced for us
They'll all leave your side, and your hopes and dreams will die...

"And if a double-decker bus crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten ton truck kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine"

There is a light that never goes out

The title references the light seen on religious portraits of either Jesus or Mary in a picture frame. My aunt and grandmother had both in their house.

I can't bear to listen to the Smiths these days thanks to Morr-arse-y. However Rick Astley's Smiths set at Glastonbury a couple of years ago meant I could enjoy their songs again in a less problematic way.

I stumbled across that by accident, it was amazing!

Really? That was 2012. He has said plenty since then to confirm my opinion of him.
Interesting that even in that case the NME didn't have to pay any damages or anything.
