What is the worst place you have ever visited?

I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

Two yrs ago got bus from Barcelona to Tossa. Bus stopped at Lloret de Mar. Yes, what a dump. Felt sorry for those who got off there. On the other hand, Tossa is beautiful.

Cairo. Hot, busy, dusty, smelly, noisy. Hell on earth. And we all came down with the worst stomach issues possible.

Benidorm - horrible tacky and felt unsafe there. We just stayed in hotel in the evenings even then full of leery men.

Dubai - amazing service and hotels but felt so fake and hated the way the locals speak to all the immigrants who work there and also the tourists who think they’re above all the staff, made me so uncomfortable.

Brussels is cobbles where you don't want them and those E Scooters dumped on the bloody pavement when they run out of puff . Annoyingly where you can trip over them.

Oh, I love these threads. I haven't read any of the comments yet, but I just know that someone's written off an entire country as crap and horrible just because they visited a town somewhere and the weather was miserable or there wasn't any egg and chips and it was "all foreign muck" to eat 😂

Middlesbrough was pretty depressing but it was many years ago and I’ve no idea what it’s like now. I really disliked Prague. I can appreciate the architecture and history but it had such an oppressive atmosphere (for me) that I couldn’t wait to leave. It gave me the creeps.

I did think of that but the awful plane tragedy was in 1988 and we visited in 2014, so 26 years had passed. We didn’t have cameras on us, we literally parked to get fish and chips. I would never return.

Brussels - the walk from the train station to our hotel was so sketchy and it was so dirty. (We were staying in a 5* star hotel, but the train station is in such a rough area). A week later there was the 2017 terror attack at the same station.

Love Paris, NYC, Amsterdam, Athens, Naples and many more. Maybe because I am from London, I can cope with noise and dirt ;-) I am surprised not to see more mentions of London here!

V surprised to see Greece and Italy mentioned. So much history and lovely food..

I didn’t love Tallinn. Found it quite dull. I didn’t hate it though. There is usually something to like in most places I think.

Michalestow Manor, Bodmin. Was a holiday park with stone coldwar bunkers chalets. We got there late in the day so had to stay the night. Complained about the room and were told "it's cheap, what did you expect?" It was cold and damp, the bedding was mouldy, there was no shower, the welcome leaflet advised to open all the windows and turn on the (coin operated) heating. We made friends with other unhappy campers and all of us spent the whole evening getting drunk enough to want to fall asleep before we got the hell out of there in the morning to find sanitary accommodation for the duration of our holiday.
This was about 12 years ago, not long after I saw the place advertised on rightmove as not fit for habitation.

With respect, what did you think it was going to be like?
If I think of somewhere in that part of the world, then your description is exactly how I would imagine it to be!

Tattoo to teeth ratio - 😄

Nicaragua circa 2004. Massive great holes in the pavement everywhere, with no warnings or barricades; terrible hygiene (we got amoebic dysentery there); lots of horrible biting flies; water was only on for half the day; boat trip to an island made me feel horrendously seasick; and generally didn't find it an interesting place. Would never go back.

Followed closely by Varanasi India (also got sick and the place is absolutely filthy). But this place was probably one of the most fascinating places I've ever been to.

This makes me sound like a sick person. I'm not. I don't eat meat or seafood (so lower food poisoning risk) and I very rarely have stomach upsets.

Abroad - Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. I will not be visiting any other North African counties

UK - isle of sheppey. My dad made us visit for a day because he went there for caravan holidays as a child. Even he admitted it was a complete shit hole by the end

Naples was a dump but honestly had the best hospitality/friendly people out of all of the other Italian cities, which salvaged the experience.

Amsterdam is the one city I will never step foot in ever again, annoying cyclists always ringing their bells, stinks of pot, grubby, the tram system was a pain to navigate, and our hotel was that bad we packed up and changed our hotels. I liked our day trip to Harleem though.

Haven't found it to be rough at all, it's your average seaside town with arcades and a lovely beach.
Also love The Harbour Bar, a must do on a visit.

Limassol was on my list although I admit I haven’t been back since the 90s when it was one long roadwork. I was propositioned by a former soldier who had lost his eye in a training accident and his party trick was removing it.

also Acapulco. Although I did buy the holiday off teletext for £349.

since the advent of the internet my holidays have gone much better 😂

Agreed! Scarborough is great! Classic seaside, lots to do, beautiful scenery around it too. I’ve never had a bad day there!

Boulogne was once my favourite place on the planet. Admittedly it was transient and followed a truly horrific ferry crossing back in the days when you could sail there from Dover. I began to worry that I was going to die and then to wish that I would, but at last beautiful Boulogne came into sight. I could have kissed the ground when I got off. True, the main features of the place that I really appreciated were that the ground was stationary and I wasn't wading through other people's vomit, but at the time that was enough to make it very attractive indeed!

This is baffling to me, sorry.
There's 54 countries in Africa. You won't visit the rest of them just because you didn't like 3 of them?!
That's like saying "I went to Italy, Spain and France but I will not be visiting any other European countries."

Wasn’t Acapulco the “dream destination” a honeymooners paradise etc, a few years back? What was the matter with it, please?
