I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

The Loire Valley gave me the chills. We were in a perfectly nice air bnb but were surrounded by really impenetrable forest and there were rotting animal carcasses from hunting, dead fish in a dried up lake and an old ww2 van riddled with bullet holes.

It was a good thing there was excellent wine otherwise I wouldn’t have got to sleep at night!

Amsterdam. Dirty, noisy, sleazy. The pleasant people and the museums didn’t compensate for it.

How strange. I've been to Amsterdam several times and always really enjoyed myself. Easy to get around, lots to do, fantastic restaurants and some really pretty areas.

Bingo time! Paris will be mentioned any minute!

I like quite a few of the places mentioned, but agree that Menorca is very very dull! Give me Mallorca any day!

Tunisia. The constant harassment was horrendous. Cut the holiday short. Never again.

Genoa wasnt very nice in 2001

Couple of mentions for Hull now. Never been but is Hull really that bad? What's so bad about Hull? I'm intrigued.

Redcar. Closely followed by Middlesbrough.

Must admit that as soon as I read the thread title, I thought, Hull 🤣

I’m sure there are nice parts, but the bits that I saw with my family weren’t great. We went to the aquarium, which was very nice.

Malta - i was so bored! Also went to the algarve Portrugal and didn’t enjoy it at all, it was expensive, couldn’t find anything other than english food and bars which is the opposite of what i want on holiday. Id love to return to portrugal but not there.

Have to agree it is a very dirty city. We were told that they had introduced a scheme to give people money for recycling plastic and glass. So the rubbish would get upended on to the streets so people could search through and pick out the recycling. There was litter absolutely everywhere. Very disappointing

Amsterdam. I tried to like it but it wasn’t for me.

Clearly they missed the Museum Quarter, it's really lovely. The Deep is pretty good too. Hull isn't awful, there's much worse places than that!

I loved Naples but agree it’s run down and dirty but truly felt authentic

Marrakesh. Hassle hassle hassle. Food poor too.

Ross-On-Wye. WTF is that all about?

Everyone there behaves like they escaped from a Monty Python sketch.

Also Paris. I can see why Paris Syndrome is a thing.

I loved Marrakech! So bonkers and surprising. Wasn’t hassled (there are undercover tourist police milling around these days!) and there are loads of amazing restaurants.

Great Yarmouth- surely the armpit of England

I concur, and I went 24 years ago. I dread what it’s like now.

Surely Hull is just another Liverpool but without The Beatles and a good football team.

For me personally, a holiday in Stoke on Trent in 1987. I do like Marmite but breathing in the yeasty backwash for a week was unpleasant.
