What is the worst place you have ever visited?

I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

Basingstoke , I used to visit there as a rep. Totally soulless, all industrial estates and housing estates . Also closer to me my second vote is Bognor Regis, a total dump

I can't afford foreign travel right now, but when I can again (hopefully!) I will base my decisions on Phil Carr's recommendations!

I did a lot of travelling when I was younger and always favoured the more out of the way places.

I was on a planned trip to Masai Mara in Kenya/Tanzania and thought it would be a great idea to cross into Somalia to tick off another country and visit Mogadishu. Bad move!

Southport Beach and Las Vegas, both fake beyond belief, both have tacky Elvis inpersonators, one has a lawnmower museum, the other one people who spend the day “having a look at the hotels”.

New York. I was just there for 1 day before I bought a ticket for the next day to leave. I have travelled quite extensively ( and grew up in Bradford so my bar is quite low!) and never felt as unsafe as I did there. We were constantly being followed by smackheads on the rob and having to duck into shops to lose them. I found most people to be incredibly rude and grabby and it just didn't wow me as a city. We are off to Miami soon so I'm interested to see how that compares before I just cross off ever going back to the States.

Centre Parcs - I couldn’t stand it. It wasn’t pretty, it was full of people and the accommodation was grotty.

Ha ha, I totally agree - both awful , although in fairness my original home town of Mansfield makes Gloucester look like a yuppy paradise

To be fair, my ex came from Hull so my opinion might be coloured by the areas his family were from ( Longhill and Bilton). I think I saw fights in most pubs and a bunch of mysoginstic men ( sp..sorry). And it was a while ago.
Did go to City Centre and bits were ok, but not my bag. I was back there a couple of years ago to get the ferry and still utterly depressing.

Blackpool...doesn't need explaining.

Dumfries...shit town and I'm Scottish. Never go. Beautiful countryside around it but the town itself is dreadful.

3 towns : Stevenston/ Saltcoats/ Ardrossan. They even have a cheek to have a caravan park there ( Sandilands) right next to a slaughter house...🙈. FML.

Swansea...some lovely places in Wales..Swansea is not one of them.

Merthyr...nuff said.

Outside Uk

Paris...I have been 8 times and used to love it, but it has gone downhill. I don't find Parisians rude if you can speak French and stay outside 1st and 2nd arrondisement.

Amsterdam..some lovely stuff to see, but generally found it a bit sleazy. I got the train in one visit. Full of drug addicts. Rotterdam/ Masstricht were better.

Salou...hellhole

Gran Canaria...Puerto Rico..just full of Brits wanting Sunday roasts and breakfasts but my kids were little so lots for them. Now they are adults, we don't do touristy places.

I don't get the Malta hate. If you stay in St Julians, it' s busy and touristy , and it's a small island, but we aren't sun worshippers and found loads to do.Yes, we picked St Julians but would go back in a heartbeat to a different bit. Valletta was lovely as was the " silent city".

Similarly Italy. I haven't done Naples yet, but so many beautiful places. Lake Como , Garda, Trieste, Bologna, Lecci and Bari. Not everyone wants Rome or Venice ( although have been)

There's several countries in North Africa, though.
Not sure why you'd write them all off just because you didn't enjoy a couple of visits to completely different ones so my point still stands. It's like visiting Italy and saying you wouldn't ever visit the countries around it as a result.

Cornworthy in South Devon, rumour had it there was a witches coven there so myself and few friends decided to drive there one night, odd odd place, every one in the village came to the window to watch us drive slowly through, needless to say we didn't hang about!

Yesss! Ha I wondered if anyone would say they had that book. Never seen the crap jobs book though.

Never been to the U.S. but I like Canada.

Kusadasi Turkey, the harassment was awful and Turin, Italy. The men were like vultures. Milan, so depressing. Youghal, Ireland, same, very grubby and I am irish, but I doubt many will be rocking up there.

I agree, went there back late last year and what a shit hole. Such a shame as growing up when I was younger it was a really good shopping centre.
i suppose things change, it is going to be redesigned and developed, hopefully for the better.

UK has endless places on my list-can only go on places I’ve been so I’m sure there are worse
