I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

Tunisia. Awful food (they tried to cook European food without knowing what it's supposed to look or taste like), very little to see or do.

Girasoli · 01/08/2026 16:43

IIRC the tap water in Cairo is drinkable, or maybe I am thinking of Alexandria? It was very heavily chlorinated to make it safe though so it didn't taste great.

I didn't enjoy Florence when I went, we stayed in a campsite that was full of mosquitos and there was also flash flooding (in the city) while we were there.

Marrakesh. Hassle hassle hassle. Food poor too.

Yes!! Beautiful city but the men are AWFUL, and the food is a disgrace. We also came home with food poisoning

Yes, we found Naples scary, and the taxi ride from the airport was the most terrifying ever!

I loved Naples. It has so much character and beauty, and I didn't find it scary at any point.

Still loving this thread, so grateful to be at HOME!

Ladamesansmerci · 01/08/2026 16:54

Warrington 🤣 Saw My Chemical Romance there, it's so run down and just has grim vibes.

People saying Lanzarote and whatever is amusing. There are so many places that are worse!

Whereas for the rest of us, any noticeable lack of hammered people and 'amusements' would be a very good reason to go there.

That’s what they said

Rhyl has gone down in folklore in our family. Years ago we stopped there for a couple of hours on our way to Anglesey. The place was so bad it was brilliant. In a claustrophobic shopping arcade there was a musical cabinet of string puppets that you put 20p in to make it play music and make the puppets dance. So many of the puppet strings were broken the puppets jerked about like the living dead, and the cat puppet just beat its head repeatedly on the floor. I bought a brilliant naff cat t-shirt from one of the vendors - made in China and the English wording wasn't quite right "Dream a cute time is now". Nothing was quite right in Rhyl - a bit like Twin Peaks

😅😂🤣 Funniest post I've seen for ages

JohnofWessex · 01/08/2026 17:07

My brother talks about the East Coast Resorts - Skegness etc with undisguised horror

Back in the early 80's and heading to the Pier Head at Liverpool was a bit grim.

Just follow the scent of piss from the bus station or the sulphurous whiff of the heavy oil the Isle of Man Steam Packets burnt

JohnofWessex · 01/08/2026 17:07

Glasgow in about 1980 as well

BrandiedAromatics · 01/08/2026 17:10

Ding Ling park, Changde, Hunan, China For the long list of prohibitions before you may enter. From the sublime:

No fortune-telling, no feudal superstitions

To the ridiculous:

No elderly without a family member
No ball games
No picnics

Like Twin Peaks! I kind of want to go there now Grin.

the80sweregreat · 01/08/2026 17:13

Never been to Rhyl, but it sounds interesting!
I went to Molton Mowbray and was disappointed
Not sure what I was expecting really. Bought some pies

Turkey. Went at age 14 and last year. Even though I'm over 20 years older now, the men are still as predatory. Even at 14, we had to link arms tightly with a male friend as so many men were literally grabbing at us. Last year I had to actually shout at one man who persistently made a beeline for me whenever I was in his sight. After three days I finally stopped being polite. Will never, ever go back.

Blackpool. Used to be alright for a day out as a child. Now, it's run down, depressing and the non original locals are arrogant and obnoxious. The amount of men who shoulder barged into me like I wasn't even there... Multi generational families just taking the entire path up. It's not about skin colour before anyone cries, it's the behaviour/attitude/entitlement.

Agree. I have never come across men as bad as in Turkey, even the men in Morocco weren't as bad. We got harassed and pulled by men everywhere. I had a massage and the man doing it groped my breasts and tried to get me to meet him for sex. Then another sleazy man at the hotel pushed me near a wall and kissed my neck and grabbed my bum and wouldn't let me go. I've heard from lots of women this is normal for Turkey. I would never go again and won't even let my daughter go!

Tryanalogue · 01/08/2026 17:17

Tunisia and bad bits of Naples.

Bamboozled5 · 01/08/2026 17:19

Eenymeanymineymo · 31/07/2026 22:29

Tunisia. The constant harassment was horrendous. Cut the holiday short. Never again.

Yup. Harassed everywhere, everyone else in our group got food poisoning. Definitely wouldn’t go again!

the80sweregreat · 01/08/2026 17:19

Lisa from steps was born in Rhyl apparently!
I had to look it up , it looks a typical seaside town in the images but it sounds a strange one.

Dudley Zoo.

Most miserable upsetting place. (This was years ago. I hope it’s changed.)

You should have seen Limassol Zoo in its heyday.

CadiFfan · 01/08/2026 17:20

Turkey, creepy leery muslim men.

blackpool. Fucking grim

I wouldn't take what people on this thread say to heart 😂 I mean some people hate Italy, Greece, South of France etc.

Or the whole of Yorkshire 🤣🤣

Kimmers4334 · 01/08/2026 08:30

Not as bad as some of these other places but I recently went to Crawley. The station looked like it would fall down on my head, everyone glared at me like I’d just landed from outer space and the people in the shops were very rude. It all seems very run down. I was there for a hairdresser and she locks customers in so I presume there’s a lot of crime

Crawley has a nice library. I used to meet clients there in pre-Covid times.

the80sweregreat · 01/08/2026 17:30

The thing that is coming across is so many countries that it’s the men that ruin it all ;(
Its so depressing isn’t it.

walkingmycatnameddog · 01/08/2026 17:31

Brighton. So unbelievably crowded with loud people in town and on the beach and the pier. Brighton, the city of noise and people pollution. And I live nearby and have to go there.

Cantwaitforwinter · 01/08/2026 17:31

Turkey, 90% child predators
