What is the worst place you have ever visited?

I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

I absolutely love Marrakech. You do need to be firm. Food we had was fantastic but appreciate not too everyone’s taste

No idea … never been to Liverpool.

Once I got beyond the area around the railway station, I fell in love with Naples. I love the film "Journey to Italy" it's one of those films that I have watched over and over. I like the cats in Naples. They just strut around. I have never seen larger cats anywhere.

Athens - felt very claustrophobic, dirty and was constantly on guard.
Was so disappointed as I’d wanted to go for years.

I loved Krakow too!

@oldFoolMe- bored in Malta? There’s so much to see. Very historical island.

Hurghada - awful place

Dubai. It’s just so showy and tacky. There’s very little culture and the place is overrun by Brits who look like they got kicked out on week 2 of the Apprentice. Not to mention how unsafe it is for women.

In the UK, Leicester. Run down, grimy and full of some very strange people. Also feels unsafe to be a woman there. There is a good theatre, though.

Lanzarote

Wolverhampton. There was a queue outside cash converters of about 50 people and they sold toilet rolls individually in the corner shop. The whole place was just shit. I did have a nice curry though Ina famous curry restaurant.

I agree with other PPs about Amsterdam - the constant smell of weed and cigarettes made me feel sick. It’s so incredibly busy and yes quite sleazy. It’s like a city that just exists for tourists, it’s a weird place.

Gibraltar. Just uninspiring.

i don’t get the Malta hate, so much history. Did you just stick to Sliema or St Julien?

Krakow is an amazing city. So much of Poland is so underappreciated.

Hull-my ex lives there and within an hour of stepping off the train,we'd seen 3 drug deals (in broad daylight) and 2 shoplifters being arrested

Peterbrough-the place reeked of farts and I've never seen so many tattoos in one place

Blackpool-grotty,saw an old bloke getting a bj (on the seafront) at about 6pm by a really young woman (she looked like a sex worker)
The weekend just went from bad to worse

I'm from York and it was awful at weekends
Either a load of hen parties or playing 'dodge the dried puke' the following day

One day of historical sights is enough for me, we went for 10 nights and by day 3 I was bored. so many of my friends loved it but it wasn’t for me

Turkey. Went at age 14 and last year. Even though I'm over 20 years older now, the men are still as predatory. Even at 14, we had to link arms tightly with a male friend as so many men were literally grabbing at us. Last year I had to actually shout at one man who persistently made a beeline for me whenever I was in his sight. After three days I finally stopped being polite. Will never, ever go back.

Blackpool. Used to be alright for a day out as a child. Now, it's run down, depressing and the non original locals are arrogant and obnoxious. The amount of men who shoulder barged into me like I wasn't even there... Multi generational families just taking the entire path up. It's not about skin colour before anyone cries, it's the behaviour/attitude/entitlement.

So interesting to see some of these, most of these places are quite marmite actually as many of them I know people that absolutely love them or absolutely hate them, Lanzarotte, New York and Dubai for example. I have close friends that love them and close friends that hate them.

We've had this thread a hundred times and it's always Blackpool and Stoke....

Absolutely love some of these hated places, especially North Africa, India and Minorca (it’s not boring it’s peaceful!).

Worst places all have to be in the UK/US.

I also don’t really rate Greece or Italy and am not desperate to go back.

Agreed. It's the worst place I've ever visited. Really rough beneath the Hollywood veneer, lots of addicts dressed up as movie characters begging, pick pockets hovering around the tour groups, and it felt dangerous to walk anywhere. The bus tour of the sights was basically a guided tour of movie star death locations. Plus DH got spiked in a bar and was so ill. Glad we were only there for a couple of days

Agreed I wouldn’t return but didn’t hate it.

I once had to kill an afternoon in Stockton-on-Tees. I felt like I'd lost something the whole time I was there, a sort of despairing and panicky feeling set in.
