What is the worst place you have ever visited?

I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

There are many lovely seaside towns. Oban, Southwold, St Ives, Felixstowe, Torquay.

Lockerbie… very odd, creepy & unwelcoming.
We got stared at and followed back to the car then we speeded away got back on the motorway, never ever to return.
We only stopped for fish and chips on the way home from Glasgow!

Parts of Liverpool are very intimidating, although the City Centre is ok.

Yep!

Dungeness, it’s just grim and it made me feel depressed.

Hull. No redeeming features.

I liked Naples.

Yes, I feel I have to stick up for Hull here- when looking round universities with my daughter, Hull stuck out as such a friendly place- everyone we encountered, the taxi driver, the people in the hotel, the cafe staff, the university staff and just people out and about! Much friendlier than any other city we visited 😊

Legoland Windsor on a baking hot August Bank Holiday weekend. I've tried to erase it from my memory so I am not quite sure what on earth induced us to do something so stupid - I think we must have been on our way to or from a holiday elsewhere - but both the temperature and the general ambience bore a remarkable resemblance to how I imagine hell. And I got badly stung by wasps just to put the icing on the cake.

i hated the noise, it’s a city I get that but it’s so noisy the car horns honking relentlessly it was too much for me, not the worst place I’ve been though that would be Blackpool.

I generally enjoy 'gritty' places, so am a fan of Naples and was also bored in Malta. Hated Serekunda - it felt so threatening, I left asap - and Thailand. Lots to love about Thailand but all the sex tourism depressed me too much.

Belfast. I felt really unsafe the whole time I was there.

Cairo, the absolute filthiest place I have ever been, but in a kind of fascinating way!

Newport in particular pillgwennlly and ringland

I went to Athens for a week last year and it was the exact opposite - spacious, clean, and full of interesting things to see and do. And I felt completely safe!

The people in Hull were so friendly- we loved it.

Raploch...only place in scotland thats full of sharks 🤣. Total dump.

Morocco. To be fair, a lot of the bad experience was down to the tour, which was expensive yet clearly done on the cheap by the local organisers. We visited all the famous instagram places - total tourist traps. If I never eat nasty watery tagine again it will be too soon. Plus I had to have rabies shots after a cat scratched me.The cats are aggressive and demanding.

I'm puzzled because I was there not that long ago for a concert and found it an interesting city. Good museums, interesting walks, history, and water.

I've been visiting Athens every year for the last twelve years and I've watched it clean up and improve year after year. I love it now.

Went on a driving holiday in Spain in the mid 80s. Murcia was the pits. We stayed in a motel which had a guy at reception who looked really dodgy and we slept with a chair wedged under the door handle.😁

The rest of the trip was amazing though. Stayed in some fabulous and really quirky places.

I loved Athens when I visited. Lots to see and keep you busy then relax in one of the many bars/cafes when you need a rest.
I thought it was extremely friendly and safe as well.

Fiji & main island Vanuatu. I'm in the minority here as they're very popular options here. I found them boring, expensive and touristy. Everytime you turned around it was cha ching to do anything. A driver booked by the hotel in Fiji ripped us off on taking us to places, lying about where we were because he didn't want to drive further, etc. and we weren't told they were pile driving for a new hotel right outside our room.

But, I dislike resort holidays. I like to be able to explore. Tanna, Vanuatu was amazing. Climb the volcano!

I liked Athens.

LA is awful.

What I mean is that when I went to Liverpool for a weekend break Liverpool seemed quite busy with tourists and I suspect most of them are there because of The Beatles. Without that tourist magnet there likely would not be so many hotels, restaurants, bars, tourist shops etc that make the city a decent weekend break and thus Liverpool would perhaps just be another Hull. On the face of it the two cities look quite similar. Northern estuary dock cities.
