What is the worst place you have ever visited?

I saw a thread on instagram about this and found it really interesting and wanted to hear more. What is the worst place you have visited and why?

UK
Skegness and Blackpool, dreadful places.

Abroad
Turkey and Egypt, I won't be visiting another Muslim country after my experiences there.

Alabama. Really frightening

I'll add Albania. Weird. Depressing. Clearly mob controlled.

And for those asking about Acapulco. Do you live under a rock or never check government travel advisories? Gang violence and kidnappings have made it unsafe for tourists for ages. Never trust a destination just because the pics look nice and the flight is a good deal.

Oh my goodness, yes...Trenton! Awful place. 🤢 I also dislike Pontiac, MI and Detroit, MI. Grubby places

We did a festival there with a band at the big hotel - the town has no shops , I can only describe it as very very odd and felt really threatning!! I had 10s of thousands of merch money on me and was petrified going to the safe

And it STINKS

I wanted to buy some lovely patterned tiles but the 'looky looky' shop keepers put me right off of having a 'looky looky' in any of their shops.

Eventually I found a small shop with an elder man sat at his desk fixing something, he looked up and acknowledged me then continued with whatever he was doing.

I secured the goods, he got my lira.

Marrakech was another holiday destination that I didn't particularly like.

omg I just went for the first time yday and thought it was amazing 🤣 I could sit on the sea front all day. I found Dungeness fascinating

something about that crazy rough sea and the views of those power plants - it’s so unusual and strange - but I found it fascinating
am staying in the area camping with family and want to go back to see it again

Same. Loved it in fact. It had a great vibe. When we went Napoli had just won Serie A and the whole city had erupted in football joy. Loved the teeny tiny streets too, and the pizza!

Yes the best pizza ever, and only 6 euros.

Turkey in general and Marmaris airport in particular. I’ve decided I’m never going back to either.
I’ve visited as part of a cruise several times and it’s the only country that behaves as if they are doing you a favour allowing you in (ridiculous considering the amount of tourist revenue cruise ships bring in and that you are thoroughly vetted as a part of that).
I was frisked at Marmaris airport prior to my return flight home, in full view of the other passengers (in fact I was made to turn and face them all as we were passing through security), having a thorough search of my genital area and my breasts - a single aging female with no red flags whatsoever.

Ilfracombe. There are some lovely spots in North Devon and then you have Ilfracombe amongst it.

Yep with you on all those - and I was born in Mansfield !! - Preston is only place where when we were tour managing a sold out show with a band and found rat droppings across all the counter tops In dressing rooms

Were you in Sliema? Plenty of history and old buildings elsewhere in Malta - eg in Valletta, the Three Cities and Mdina.

Thailand. Seedy, depressing and an undercurrent of danger. Just a soulless place but with potential to be amazing. New York - overhyped. The only place that I visited which I felt was really interesting, and heartbreaking at the same time, was Ground Zero.

I'd say Albanian mob and Russian mob where I was (Saranda, I think).
We were directed to certain places only.
The place to change money was a big fat guy with 1000's in a cash box at a back table in the cafe. 🤔
Saw him later standing on the street with bills folded length-wise and held between each finger on one hand. Cigar in the other. No one out other than people running the few shops, street vendors and the few cafes around. Every apartment had curtains drawn save for a few people who quickly peeked out at us. No cars driving at all. Fucking twilight zone.

Snap. The worst place by far I have ever been to. If someone told me I’d won a free holiday and it was to Tunisia I would say no thank you.

Yep - here in Bath - they own loads of restaurants- I kid you not!!

How can it be a “very small minded comment?”
The poster said the place was dirty, dusty, hot etc… and I said that’s exactly how I would imagine it to be ( given where it is in the world, the usual temperature etc) I’ve no doubt that parts of Africa are amazing, but the poster was referring to one area, and I answered her.

What a shame.

I lovedvalletta- !! and enjoyed Victoria on Gozo too - but agree it’s bit hit and miss -

Tunisia. We did a 3 days excursion which was amazing and I am glad we did before the rest of the two weeks in the hotel we were constantly harassed by the entertainment staff telling us not to be lazy and get off our sunbeds and join in. Sellers every 10 minutes. A staff member inviting me to his room so he could give me a good time. Food horrid. Full of middle aged women draped over these young male staff members. Actually came round the corner one day and a women was being fingered by a staff member in broad daylight with kids around.

Huacachina, Peru.
It's a fake oasis (pumped in) that stinks, full of old rusty pedalos, surrounded by a single circular concrete strip of overpriced tourist restaurants.

You can't even sit and enjoy your expensive burger and fries because there are diesel buggies driving tourists up the sand dunes so they can slide back down them. ALL DAY.

You could replicate the experience by sitting next to a leaf blower, sniffing your oldest vegetable peelings, and throwing your wallet out of a window.
