A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

We don’t hear much about what is decided. Maybe they all go in and have biscuits for a bit.

Like the coalition of the willing carry on, but they had probably had croissants. Remember that era? Omg bloody coalition of the willing. Tg that’s over.

I hope its over. Unless Burnham gets a drop in the polls....😬
I wonder if Starmer left his dressing-up box in No.10. 😂

It's so depressing that the fires are lit by arsonists. What's wrong with some people?

Yes, it’s hard to fathom. I strongly suspect that the fires are a combination of fire setters, smokers and some unavoidable ignition like car engine fires. The numbers of fires started by people bbq-ing is probably very low, possibly negligible.

I don’t have a problem with a ban though. We should be taking strong precautions.

Good news that people are starting to realise it though

I may be wrong, but I feel as if a lot of people thought that fire just broke out spontaneously. Like spontaneous combustion or something.

What was the " coalition of the willing " ?was that for Ukraine ?

Yes. The members ‘committed’ to providing peace keeping forces if peace ever broke out in Ukraine. But there was never any real chance of that, and even if it had happened the numbers of available troops was tiny, even if public opinion had allowed for it, which it wouldn’t have done. It was a farce.

LieborCookin · 15/08/2026 17:59

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame oh yes !! The fanfare that and it just fell away

SapphireCasino · 15/08/2026 18:00

I don’t remember the coalition of the willing at all

I think it happened in the happy days where I wasn’t paying attention to politics at all.

Thanks to the gift of Google, I have discovered that it is possible to turn off 'severe' alerts (such as this one) but still receive 'extreme' alerts - apparently those which pose an immediate threat to life. On Android, at least.

LieborCookin · 15/08/2026 21:42

@justasking111 extraordinary and looks like loads in Germany as well !

We're not that far from the New Forest one. Absolutely devastating. And the road has to be rebuilt, so won't be open for a week.

Hi everyone, I am late to the party. Burnham isn't going to last. He started off with a few raffle grabs but when more of the big issues come along, he will sink. He's been tested on the early prison release scheme. Tell you what he reminds me of: somebody desperate to be liked and to please everybody. I also believe he wants to make a big splash and be a different on trend kind of PM. Getting this lot out can't come soon enough. Signing off as a massive Kemi fan.

Nuthatch26 · 30/07/2026 10:33

I thought @RodneyKitten was you! 😂😂 I haven't a clue now.

Oh dear. It's like the masked singer on here every time I start a new thread. Can you all please send me a pm when you change names? 😂

😆 🤣 😂

I think he has the energy but the problem with him is that he thinks small.

Which might be ok for a mayor but not for a PM.

That's bang on.

LieborCookin · 16/08/2026 07:45

I feel guilty admitting this but when I heard him speak the other day /regardless of what he was saying I did suddenly think after ,wow ! I didn't have a viseral reaction to that ! The voice is for me so much easier to listen to than steamer.

LieborCookin · 16/08/2026 07:47

He thinks small but also doesn't seem to understand the complexities of bigger issues
He has already upset a lot of people with the promise to raise the tax threshold and then rescinding his team must be frantically trying to gag him.

Same. I don’t actually hear him much and my IG happily doesn’t put much up, I’m not on tik tok or X

I couldn’t listen to Starmer, Reeves or Phillipson although the first was the most excruciating.

Whatever happens with Burnham at least he’s relieved us of Starmer for the next three years.

On a side note I don’t think he should have written an article on Arday. There are so many tragic cases which Labour ignore. Rhiannon Whyte for example.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 16/08/2026 08:46

I feel the same. Burnham can talk like a human and this government is mostly not nasal like the previous one. Which is a blessing.

My sense about Burnham is that he’s canny enough to ‘get out there’ with his micro policies and will continue for a while to be much more popular than Starmer, until the important national problems need addressing.

That could change the perception from one of a skilful operator into one of a gimmick merchant. The risk is that pumping out tiny consumer policies at a time of economic pain or world turbulence makes a PM look trivial and unstatesmanlike. Time will tell.

EasternStandard · 16/08/2026 08:59

Yes I feel some reprieve with this small stuff, leave us alone for a bit approach but he has limited time on bigger stuff, with this I’d say the crossings in particular.

If it starts to look like he’s doing bus fares as striking images appear he’ll start to face pressure on what he’ll do.

Agreed! Also couldn't listen to Reeves.
