Chump has declared that once the war is over, the Strait will become US territory. I won't hold my breath.

Trump is either unhinged or thinks he's making a joke. Is he planning to go to war with Oman too?

Donald Trump has threatened to declare the strait of Hormuz as “a territory of the United States” as his administration struggles to conclude the war with Iran.
During a speech at a police academy on Long Island, New York, on Friday, the US president said he would “pretty soon” designate the waterway – a crucial chokepoint for global trade, through which about a fifth of the world’s seaborne oil supplies typically pass – a US territory.
The comment came as peace talks with Iran remain at an impasse following failed negotiations, with Tehran refusing to reopen the strait, which has been all but closed since the US and Israel launched their war on Iran in February.
Almost six months into the war, there is little indication that negotiations will soon yield peace, as Iranian officials continue to defy Trump’s demands. The US has been blockading Iranian shipping and ports in recent months in an effort to pile economic pressure on Tehran.

“After we finish defeating Iran, which is being very badly defeated, pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Hormuz strait a territory of the United States,” Trump said on Friday. “Essentially, that’s what it is. We have the blockade. No ships get through unless we want them to.”
The seriousness of Trump’s remark, and whether it signaled a new policy position for his administration, was not immediately clear.
Responding on X, formerly Twitter, Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, said Tehran would not be intimidated by threats, or a show of force, by the US – and added that the strait of Hormuz would only be opened, or closed, under Iran’s authority.
Earlier this week, the president claimed that the US had “total control” over the strait and said “I think we will keep it” on Truth Social, despite the waterway being an internationally navigable strait bordered by Iran and Oman.

I can’t cope with this level of lunacy. We are watching the fairy story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” being enacted in real time and nobody is doing anything about it. I can’t express my horror at my helplessness in the face of it all.

BBC not folding.
Drumpf TACO-ed on the financial aspect of the lawsuit but still claims reputational damage.
As if!

BBC seeks to subpoena Trump children and son-in-law over defamation lawsuit.

The BBC is trying to subpoena Donald Trump’s children as it builds its defense against the president’s defamation lawsuit centered on a documentary on the January 6 insurrection.
In a motion filed on Friday, the BBC sought authorization to serve Trump’s two eldest children, Donald Trump Jr and Ivanka Trump, and son-in-law Jared Kushner, with subpoenas for testimony and their records on the events of 6 January 2021.
The BBC, its lawyers wrote in court documents, is entitled to discover Trump’s “intention behind the speech and anything that bears on the impression his audience could have reasonably obtained in listening to the speech”, which includes whether Trump “gave it intentionally or otherwise; the breadth of the audience of the message and impression; and the extent of any resulting injury or harm”.
...
Trump’s children and son-in-law have, “without question”, knowledge of several incidents that day, BBC’s lawyers wrote, , including when Trump sought to convince former vice-president Mike Pence to refuse certifying the results of the 2020 election. The BBC also said that Kushner allegedly helped to draft a statement for Trump that would have condemned the use of violence at the Capitol.
The British broadcaster had been unable to previously serve Trump’s children and son-in-law with subpoenas because they are protected by the US Secret Service as members of the sitting president’s immediate family, according to the court documents. The BBC had tried previously to serve Ivanka Trump and her husband, Kushner, at their home in Florida but were blocked by law enforcement officials.

BBC lawyers absolutely smashing it. The rotten progeny won’t like that.

We had a national alert issued in the U.K. last night. I half expected it to be Trump launching a nuke but it turned out to be wildfires.

Wow.

I remember at the time the story as that Trump and his gaggle were stood in a Marquee or something, big TV on showing Fox News, and they were egging the rioters on.

Looks like the BBC have bigger balls than US Congress to hunt out the truth.

As an aside, I just watched a Holocaust film about ex Nazis, and them hiding their past. And I reckon there are defo some parallels here. Any one of his inner gang, past or present, could speak out.

See also Irving v Penguin Books, also relating to Holocaust denial.

Truth is a defence against defamation. David Irving lost on the grounds that Deborah Lipstadt's claims about him were substantially true, and that even if some claims weren't accurate the sting of the defamation was true and therefore the inaccurate parts made no difference.

That's what will sink Trump, too. IIRC he has been found by a US government (Senate?) committee to have been responsible for the Jan 6 riots. Therefore any defamation claim he makes against someone for saying he was responsible for the Jan 6 riots would normally fail, regardless of whether 100% of what that someone says is true.

Of course when David Irving failed in his libel case against Penguin and his bid to curb Deborah Lipstadt's free speech, he then whined that his free speech had been infringed. But it hadn't: he had been able to say what he wanted; other people had been able to say what they concluded about him from that.

Thanks. I am not directly comparing. Just that there are parallels.

Pence could bring him down. But chooses not to because of some sort of loyalty ?

PerkingFaintly · 15/08/2026 09:31

Penguin's decision to make a stand was awesome.

They could have decided to fold to make their lives easy, but instead spent two years analysing Irving's work to build their defence case – and won.

I suspect the BBC have been taking notes.

Is there an actual record on video from more than one source showing MAGAs attempting to lynch Mike Pence on Jan 6th? How can they deny it? They are disgraceful. Oh, I give up again, I’m melting into a pool of disgust here.

The SS removed him. Into the subway thing they have recall. SS were at the door pistols drawn.

Trump has most likely sacked those SS.

So negotiations of the deal that the orange blob previously renegotiated are going well (not). Deadline is Wednesday. Comments on SM from Canadians range from our government sucks, we should give him what he wants, to stop negotiating since he never honours a deal anyway, to stop selling the US anything. My sentiment is thank goodness we have Carney in charge.

“The U.S. is demanding a right of first refusal on Canadian critical minerals, that Canada complete its purchase of U.S. F-35 fighter jets, that Ottawa buy U.S. tech such as radar planes as part of joining Mr. Trump’s planned Golden Dome missile defence system, and that Washington receive some guarantee on future supplies of oil and gas”.

KING CARNEY TURNS CANADA INTO A FUCKING CASH COW

There’s a bloke in Ottawa right now quietly running the single greatest economic masterclass on the planet, and the funniest part is that he kinda owes the lucky break to Donald Trump.

I'm greatly amused by the thought of a new department devoted to undoing Trump's decorative ideas, vainglorious projects, and attempts at rewriting history. Funded by a tax on the Trump Foundation.

Front page on international news. And have you missed the cost of living stuff ? That was predicted, and that is ongoing.

If you follow it , you will see that one of the issues for the news is that the US are not really saying anything.

In the US it is double what it was before/what Trump targets. $4 as opposed to the $2 he has claimed/ targets.

Heating oil too. The Irish Government has already had to plough money in to that, and it is summer. Wait for winter. I think it has doubled at least.
